Forums - Discs & Movies - You know, You'd Think They Would Stop Making Those Damn Annoying Flipper Discs
In theory though, when the new formats come out (that have many times the capacity of a dvd), the flipper should soon be defunct...
I don't mind a double sideded disc. A true flipper is one where the movie ends half-way through and you gotta flip it. Those were aweful. DVD-10's, 14's or 18's dont bother me so much because I would have had to open to the dvd player to stick in a second disc of bonus content anyhow.
Although, it is nice to feel like you have more with multiple discs.

Well, I dunno what Elisha Cuthbert has to do with flipper discs, but who cares? lol
I <3 Danny Boy.

Today however, I purchased the new Casino Anniversary Edition DVD and the first thing I see when I open it is that the DVD is a damn flipper disc. I don't understand why they still do this, is not like the extra features couldn't fit in one disc and if they didn't fit, why not go the extra mile and make it a 2 Disc Edition instead?[/rant][/b]R2 is getting a 2-disc release. :p
I don't understand why they keep producing double-sided discs either. DVD14/DVD18's are supposed to be harder to manufacture than single-sided discs too.

I mean I understand that there had to be flipper discs (2 sided DVDs) when DVDs first came out but by this time, it should not happen. Sadly, every once in a while you buy a DVD only to find out that it is a flipper disc. Don't ask me why I hate them.
Maybe it is the fact that they are more harder to take care of, maybe it is the lack of some nice disc art, maybe I don't mind getting off the couch to change Disc 1 and pop in Disc 2 but I do mind having to flip the damn thing. It just feels so outdated. Granted, some DVDs will let you know that it's a flipper disc on the back of the DVD cover but some just don't.
This recently happend to me when I purchased the Girl Next Door DVD. I open it and I see the god awful flipper disc. I only paid $10 for it so it didn't get me that upset. Plus, Elisha Cuthbert made me forget about it.

I don't know if there's anyone that feels the same as I do but as you may have noticed, this is one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to DVDs.
