Zodiac - 2 Disc Director's Cut NEWS! NOT KIDDING!
I have just witnessed some news about a 2 Disc Director's Cut of "Zodiac". But sadly you won't find it in 2007. The promo pic says it is coming in 2008!

Here are some of the special features you will expect to find in the 2 Disc set...

* Audio Commentary by David Fincher, actors Jake Gyllenhaal and Robert Downey, Jr., screenwriter James Vanderbilt, producer Brad Fischer and crime novelist James Ellroy
* Extensive behind-the-scenes featurettes detailing the production from start to finish

* In-depth looks at the actual Zodiac crimes, including all-new interviews with the original investigators and survivors
I found the promo you can see at your local video

Did anyone not see this coming?

Anyways, I hope they stick with that cover and i'm glad there's news of it before the bare-bones release.

I really really love this film but i have purposely NOT bought the bare-bones DVD as that's something i don't support. I'll definitely get this. It's a shame we  have to wait so long for it though.

Not at all surprising...still annoying though! Thanks for posting that! I like this cover more than the other one.

this barebones single disc and two disc with extras thing is rather annoying.

I could see this coming and sadly this is going to be the the case for alot of the studios from now on. Warner has it's 2-Disc Special Editions and the bare bones edition. Fox has it Extended Cuts (just waiting for the extended cut to X-Men 3:The Last Stand), Paramount is also getting into the bandwagon which they started with Flags of our Fathers and Babel and now with Zodiac. Universal is releasing it's Limited Editions (Munich, Jarhead, United 93 anyone?) Even MGM/UA are giving some of their cataloge titles the 2-Disc Special Edition treatment and the latest being Invasions of the Body Snatchers

If there is (which I feel there will be), it would probably be a combination of the R1 and R2 edition and maybe a little more running time added into it. Currently, the R1 Collector's Edition only had the Full-Length Audio Commentary by Director Brett Ratner and Screenwriters Simon Kinberg & Zak Penn. Producer Commentary by Avi Arad, Lauren Shulder Donner and Ralph Winter, Deleted & Extended Scenes and 3 Alternate Endings with Optional Audio Commentary and All-New Exclusive Custom Comic Book Written by Stan Lee. Pretty bare bones in terms of extras if you ask me.

The R2 edition had a little more included with those commentaries from the R1 edition. These include:
Documentaries ('X-Men: Evolution of a Trilogy', 'X-Men: The Excitement Continues', 'Anatomy of a Scene: The Golden Gate Bridge', Brett Ratner's Production Diary, Vignettes, Blogs, Easter Egg), Image gallery, Storyboard comparisons and Deleted scenes with commentaries by Brett Ratner, with Zak Penn and Simon Kinberg.

Just like Fantastic Four and Mr and Mrs Smith before, there certainly will definitely be a more elaborate edition in the works.
