I've just had an external drive done.

I must say that I have the LaCie 500 Gig external drive and so far, I have been fairly happy with it. No problems so far using it about 8 hours a day to serve up music.
If you really are getting it then I'd buy a new HDD immediately and copy all your data over to a new Windows installation. Once things start to go, they invariably get worse.
You can get around it by grabbing a few files from the hidden system restore folder and copying them to the config folder in windows\system32. You need to rename them afterwards though. It's not an easy step as you need exclusive access to the files so you need be able to stick the drive in another machien or use ERD Commander etc.

omg you get that too? the continuous rebooting and bad sectors?! I thought that was just me and my stupid computer?! how did you get round it?
Hey, I haven't lost any data (yet) and I managed to get around the NTSF.sys error and access XP in spite of the continuous reboot cycle and bad sectors, so there

Probably a good option... the problem with these other brands (excluding the Maxtor) is it becomes a pick and mix, sometimes they contain an absolute top of the range hard drive, other times you get a poor model that suffers from side effects like overheating - basically depends on the batch.

Check out newegg.com, find the best price on an internal, IDE hard drive from whatever brandname you trust and purchase a decently rated, USB housing kit for it. If all you want is something 150-200 GB, you should be able to get a drive that size and an external housing kit for it for under $150, and you'll have flexibility with want you eventually want to do with the hard drive.

Hi everyone. I've been having computer problems recently and may need to format it. :-( I was wondering if anyone here has an external hard drive that has worked well for them and has about 150 - 200 GB of memory for less than 150 dollars. I absolutely refuse to lose my files, but my computer is getting slower and slower. Also, where did you get it? Any help is appreciated.
