I'm pretty sure the best you get is stereo but if you've got an amp that'll do Dolby Pro-Logic II, it'll do a decent job of converting the stereo feed into a surround mix. I've got my freeview box connected to the surround and the footie sounds best on it - commentary through the front and crowd noise at the sides.
Yes, I think they use Dolby Surround, although bear in mind, if you are moving from analogue and are used to Nicam stereo then you may notice that audio quality is actually lower on Freeview.
I didn't think any broadcast in 5.1 yet - do they do it in surround though? i.e. 4.0?
I think the more specialist brands like Humax do them.
That said, I don't think any channel broadcasts on Freeview in 5.1. The whole system is so full to bursting point that broadcasters are paying as much as £20 million per channel per year even for the low quality streams.

Freeview 5.1?
Hey chaps this is with regards to UK.
Does anyone know of any 5.1 or Dolby Surround Freeview Digital Set top boxes?
Would love to get one, but have turned up no concrete answers on the web.
Cheers
