Too true, which is why I hope this disc works and will be available. That way I don't have to upgrade right away and I'll have more incentive to buy a player. But hopefully not for a good long while.
Standard DVD will eventially be phased out - it's the nature of technology today. The question is which one o you take up - blu-ray or HD-DVD? Buy DVD now but your hand will be forced later
So then don't buy any and just stick to standard DVD?

If they can actually produce them then we could see single disc releases in the near future that support all three formats.

Unfortunately that still isn't going to help the fact that you're not likely to see any Sony titles on HD-DVD for a very long time, if ever. Dammit I hate them over this stupid format war, no matter which format you buy you exclude yourself from a ton of good movies.

Interesting. I think it's a good idea. Hell of a lot better than having one on it's own. Had they done this from the start, they'd have had much more "Opening" business I think. I know there are "Combo Packs" out there, but I think this is so much better.

Have a look at this. iTwire are reporting about the new hybrid disc that Toshiba and Memory Tech have announced which is a single-sided 3 layer disc incorporating DVD and HD-DVD.
