hi. I used to be able to save the hi-res jpeg images of the dvd covers. but recently when I try to do so they show up as .gif and I cannot download them. when I save them to file nothing comes out.
has anyone else had this problem?
thank you.

It's a simple image protection idea to attempt to cut down the number of people grabbing the images and posting them on other forums / websites, then failing to link back to us. We know this happens because a lot of the images have hidden information within them and so are tracked.

Its really too bad. I used to use the images for my DVD profiler as well. It seems to me in trying to stop that from happening its only slowing it down and in the process its kinda punishing the peeople who don't do that.Couldn't the same thing be achieved by doing it in the prior format.

It's also to protect us legally, as technically you're not allowed to save the artwork from this site as it belongs to the studios.

You are quite right in that it beloongs to the studios, and I'm not disputing that. I also understand that you need to protect yourselves legally but as you say it belongs to the studios not to you and believe me people will find a way to get it if they want it that bad. I will just wait until DVDprofiler makes the image available.

BTW how did we go from posting it on other forums to saving it  for personal use seems like a big jump to me.

How? You might want to save the images for 'personal use', but there are plenty of other people who will use them in ways that are detrimental to DVDActive. Of course if people really want to obtain the artwork from this site they will do so easily, but that doesn't mean we have to hand it over on a plate.
