Further Details

Hong Kong Classics have just announced the region two release of A Better Tomorrow. The movie is directed by John Woo and stars Chow Yun Fat, Ti Lung, Leslie Cheung, Emily Chu and Lee Che Hung. This release will just about make it into this year’s calendar, and will come in a special double-disc DVD loaded with extras.

Here is a little bit of info about the film. A simple but compelling tale of two brothers – Ho Tse Sung (Ti Lung), a successful counterfeiter, and Kit Sung (Leslie Cheung), a rookie graduate of the Hong Kong Police Academy – the plot focuses on Woo's favourite themes of honour, brotherhood and loyalty. Incarcerated after a deal goes wrong, on his release from prison Ho decides it is time to go straight. However, he is coerced back into a life of crime by his former associates and his need to help his best friend and former right-hand man Mark (Chow Yun Fat), who has fallen on hard times. Ho is also attempting to reconcile his relationship with his policeman brother, who blames him for the death of their father and is coming under increasing pressure from his superiors because of his familial links to organised crime. A series of heists, double-crosses and shoot-outs lead to a climactic battle in which two men find themselves fighting for their lives and their honour.

You can expect an all new anamorphic widescreen transfer sourced from a digitally remastered print of the original Cantonese version of the film with digitally re-mastered English subtitles. The disc also includes the English language version of the film. Special features include interviews with director John Woo, stars Chow Yun Fat and Ti Lung, a behind-the-scenes featurette, theatrical trailers, a gallery of rare artwork and production stills, extensive talent biographies and fully interactive moving menus. A Better Tomorrow will be in shops from 27th December and should retail for £19.99.
