A Nightmare On Elm Street (US - BD)
New Line has today officially announced a Blu-ray release of the original movie
Title: A Nightmare On Elm Street (IMDb)
Starring: Robert Englund
Released: 6th April 2010
SRP: $24.98
Further Details:
New Line has announced a Blu-ray release of A Nightmare On Elm Street for the 6th April. Retail will be around $24.98. Extras will include Ready Freddy Focus Points with Alternate Takes and Filmmaking Secrets, a commentary with Director Wes Craven, Co-Stars Heather Langenkamp and John Saxon and Cinematographer Jacques Haitkin, a second commentary with Wes Craven, Co-Stars Robert Englund, Heather Langenkamp and Ronee Blakley, Producer Robert Shaye and Co-Producer Sara Risher Robert Shaye, alternate endings, and 3 featurettes ("The House That Freddy Built: The Legacy of New Line Horror", "Never Sleep Again: The Making of A Nightmare on Elm Street", "Night Terrors: The Origins of Wes Craven’s Nightmares").

Quote: “1, 2, Freddy’s coming for you.” And here he is, phantom fiend Freddy Krueger in all his razor-fingered infamy. Wes Craven (Scream movies) directs this trendsetting first in the slash-hit series. The premise is simple: Freddy (Robert Englund) homicidally haunts the sleep of Elm Street teens. The results are terrifying and mind-blowingly innovative. There’s another film debut too: Johnny Depp. He plays the ready steady of the hottie mcsmarty (Heather Langenkamp) who figures a clever way to flambé the fiend. But ever-say-die Freddy will be 3, 4 back for more…even returning to the screen in a killer 2010 remake of this diabolical original. Sweet dreams!

How sweet Blu meat.....to bad we have to wait for 2-7 for blu.
Is Johnny Depp too cool to provide any commentary? I know he's busy and everything, but seriously how long does it take to do commentary? I think he owes this movie that much.
woohoo...they ARE making an 8 movie box set? wicked...that is mine.
oh wait i just realized thats a box set on dvd and not blu....dammit. lol
and i may be wrong but that totally looks like Jackie Earl Haley's silouhette on the 8 movie collection...how rude if it is.

Just go to a Target, and you can get all the Nightmare movies plus Freddy vs. Jason for probably less than $20. They come in two seperate DVD cases.

It's a New Line title, so I wonder if they'll DNR the f**k out of it? I bet it'll be region locked as well. Ah well, EiV should release it in the UK eventually and it might even have a better transfer (A History of Violence did).
No deleted scenes or the other nice little bits which adorn our (expensive!) Elite LaserDisc from about 15 years ago!
If the image is nice, we'll get it, but the SD releases of the others are nice enough to do the job, including Freddy's Revenge, the most magnificent homoerotic horror movie ever made.
"You've got the body, I've got the brains..."
Hmm, seems like a nice boy...

I thought since New Line was absorbed into Warner that they were releasing in the typical Warner way now (Region-free). Friday is region-free and that's a New Line film that Warner released.

Warner has owned them for ages (haven't they?) and NL transfers always seem to be different and the discs locked. It would be good if that trend has come to an end though. I'll be happy to be proved wrong anyway.
I always liked this cover

oh i know about that collection and i'd never get it. i want proper seperate releases, i dont like those "let's shove a whole series of movies onto 1/2 discs" collections. i'm anal, what can i say. lol

You're not the only one Bouncy X. I also despise when studios do that. Although, don't be ashamed of protesting. The studios are just trying to be cheap and aim at the lowest common denominator for us customers who spend our hard-earned cash.
Anyway, I'll try to pick up this release. I loved the original A nightmare on Elm Street and this includes movie cash to see the new remake. The trailer got pumped. But the behind-the-scenes look on the new remake on the TFD BD I just bought today got me super pumped. Yeah, I usually hate remakes, but this one looks pretty decent. Plus, Platinum Dunes makes pretty good remakes. I thought the Friday the 13th remake was okay and thought the Texas chainsaw massacre remake was awesome. Although, I'm a little upset that on Aint it cool news said it was the driest R rated movie ever and it felt like a PG-13 flick. The guy on AICN said there's no nudity, no gore (some blood, that's it) and no abundance of f-words. But screw the review, I'm still going to see it.

yeah i never understood this recent "New Line is now part of WB" business. since the early 90s (possibly before) New Line has always had that "A Time Warner Company" thingy on the bottom of their logo screen.
i guess maybe now WB has more direct control or something.

Right on, understandable. Just thought I'd offer an opinion.

i guess maybe now WB has more direct control or something. Yeah, they were owned by Warner but ran independently. Warner just merged them with the parent company & put their own people in charge.
Pretty sure they've followed the Warner pattern of region free BD releases ever since.

Good to hear. I don't really keep up on American developments and assumed that they still ran independently. Thanks for clearing it up. Hopefully I'll be getting this one in April.
I wonder if it will be uncut? I have a VHS copy taken from a really old cable broadcast that has the uncut blood splash when Tina hits he bed. When I got the Nightmare Collection on DVD back in the early 2000s the edit really stood out.

The 1-4 and 5-8 4 disc sets I got at Target for $16 for all 8 movies works for me for now. These were pretty low budget films and I doubt they will look all that great on Blu-ray. Somethings just don't need to be in 1080p. Maybe someday I will upgrade if there really cheap.
Convieniently released now? I wonder if they rushed it and the picture is trashed....
