I'd love it if this series turned up on DVD. Really enjoyed the show back when it was on TV. Unfortunately it looks like there's no chance it will ever be released, and I've no intention of wasting my money on another of George Lucas' abortions where he hacks the originals to pieces to create something completely different.

Dear Mr. Lucas, if I wanted documentaries on the period I'd watch the Discovery channel or go to the library and read a book. I'd like the TV series, not  300 DVDs of documentaries with brief highlights that you bothered to leave unedited from the episodes.

You're wrong when you say "nobody wants bare bones". Lucas has torn the episodes to shreds and filled the disks with documentaries that by all accounts are very badly researched and historically inaccurate. The TV series was fiction and I'd much rather have that unedited and as originally aired than get another version of Mr. Lucas' attempts to rewrite history.

Yep, that's Daniel Craig. As said above, he did appear in the show.

However, I'm convinced that is a photoedited picture, changed to look like his character from Young Indy, of a shot from Casino Royale.

Hmmm, that's a first...someone actually wanting a bare-bones release.  If there was ever such a series that cried out for extensive bonus material, this one is it.  

And it's not History Channel stuff, these are all new documentaries filmed by Paramount.  That's why it has taken so long to get these out.  They were supposed to be released a couple years ago.

Ahem...HD,where is it?No double bill with that price for me,but some of these episodes are darn good,if you want to get your kid interested in history than this is it,equal parts instructional as it is entertaining.

Nice to see Paramount doing full-color disc artwork again for the "Adventures of Young Indiana Jones" set, even if it's only because Lucasfilm made them do so. Still, that is a pretty extensive package and beautiful artwork.

But why no 5.1 surround mix for the show? If they can do 5.1 remixes for the Indy trilogy, certainly they have the money to do that for the show in addition to remastering the video and adding the extras. Still, the good outweighs the bad, in any case.

The blurb lists the sets as starring George Hall - Old Indie - and this is rather odd, as at the time, he was created as a guide through the stories and to set the background information for the historically ignorant.  This was before there was any notion of another movie, and the decision was a big mistake, with Old Indie seriously robbing the iconic character of his stature, reducing him to some old git who yells at kids to get off his lawn.  Wouldn't it annoy you if some urine-soaked crumblie busted in on your private conversation with something along the line of "You've got no money?  You know nothing of hardship!  When I was in the trenches of the Great War - that's the First World War to you kids - I could tell you what hardship was!"

Old Indie was completely removed from the show when they were edited together as "features", and only old tapes of the show keep any record of George Hall's turn as Indiana Jones.  It is unlikely that he will be in the DVD releases, as this obligates Lucas & co to keep him alive at the end of the new movie, but it might explain why Old Indie has an eyepatch, other than a hoodie got fed up with his diatribe and popped a cap in his peeper.

Deadwood or Rome? About 11 episodes I think. The average for a season of them is around 720 min. But if it's The Sopranos or The Wire they're usually around 780 min a season.

According to wikipedia, there were 44 episodes of 45 min. each. So are we to expect volumes of 7 features of 90 min. each? That rounds about 630 min, or about how many Soprano/Deadwood/Rome episodes?

So, that way we get movies 1-22 from this box set, and the 3 feature films 23-25...

22 90 minute episodes? MY GOD! I had no idea the episodes were theatrical length, that's amazing!

Oh, snap!  So Grandaddy Luca$ finally decided to pull the trigger and release this.  I'll be grabbing it up on release day....

I remember this being on TV and I just couldn't get into it. Course, I was 15 years younger, then...

Were the episodes 90 minutes each??? I can see the hefty price tag, if so. But still... $75-85 (at Costco or Best Buy) for ANY TV show is a lot.

LucasFilm made upwards of 100 documentaries and featurettes for this series so that they'll make for good/great educational tools for High School level history classes.

That's why it has taken so long for these to make to DVD.  Plus the fact that they had to undergo some major restoration as they were filmed on 16mm film which has a high grain level.

Three volumes, 22 episodes, 12 discs? Man, just how much extras will these have!?

Vol. 2 is supposed to be out by January or so, and then Vol. 3 will come out shortly after Indy IV hits theater, ie. May or June.


The series will be 22 90 minute episodes, so how they're splitting these up over 3 volumes is anybody's guess.  Will they come out in chronological order, or will they be a mixed-match group like the Ultimate James Bond sets.

With 12 discs in this one, I'd expect that this volume may only have 6 episodes and their respective bonus disc.

YEAH! It's about time...they've been planning this for years...the price tag is a little steep, but Paramount always overprices their sets...but, I'll be getting this anyway!

I like the idea of this, especially the historical documentaries - it'll be fun to see exactly where the shows are supposed to fit into the historical reality - but at that price how many volumes are we looking at in total?
