Is this a third version?
THIS IS WHAT IAM TALKIN' ABOUT BABY!!!!!!
3 cuts? The first two cuts must have sold REALLY well on DVD to justify a third, as I understand this stunk at the box office.
I've hated every version of this movie. It's so bad it needs three versions to sell.Troy and even King Arthur was better than this.Troy was mediocre and King Arthur was horrible but not as bad as this.I doubt a new 45 min could save it.
I do not have this, so I will finally pick it up, but I would like to tell Oliver to not make a Aexander Revisited: The Final Cut Special Extended Again Edition in the future.
...and a free ticket to 300!!!

Well, as much as I have come to dislike Oliver Stone as of late, I'm willing to give this new cut a shot. I didn't really dislike the first cut, I just wished it had more battle sequences. Alexander conquered the known world and they only showed two battles???

boring...
im extremely intrested in seeing this. I thought "Alexander" was a very good film and now I'm intrested to see the entire vision Oliver Stone wanted. Will most likely pick this up.
Nice cover, the blue is a bit odd though.
I too will be picking this up. I still reckon a few saw it and the rest jumped on the bandwagon. Sure it has problems (Angelina Jolie is supposed to be Coln's mother for example) but it's far from a bad film. The battles alone make it worth it. They're outstanding.
I thought the Original Theatrical Cut was very good but Director's Cut or I guess we should call it the Original Director's Cut (this Final Cut now being the Director's Cut) Stone messed around with far to much and I didn't care for it.
Any news if this is based on the Theatrical or Director's Cut? I'm presuming the latter.

You have to remember the original 'director's cut' was forced upon Oliver Stone to 'play down the gay overtones and play up the action' so that it would sell better the to Christian audience that refused to see the theatrical version, thus it wasn't the true 'directors cut'. I'm guessing this one will include the full theatrical version, plus add in the footage from the shorter DC (the original DC was eight minutes SHORTER than the theatrical version and had something like 19 minutes of extra footage), plus add in a few more of the deleted scenes.
This will be a must buy as I have loved all of the so called 'sword and sandal' epics of recent years, and this was no exception. It's a fascinating period of our world history.

"Ultimate-True Director's Cut"?
Is this worth buying even though it has no extras?

Theatrical cut sucked sooooo badly (except Rosario Dawson topless.....droooolllll). But I think i'll netflix this in hope of a "Kingdom of Heaven" type DC. And that cover art is f**king awesome.

No offence but have you seen the director's cut? As this rumour I've heard before is completely wrong. There are no more or less homosexual undertones in either cut. The biggest change his big parts of the film being messed around with and reordered.
I didn't care for Stone's decisions at all.
Also remember the homosexual undertones were (in Western countries anyway) only ever an issue in America. I didn't read or hear won complaint in the UK or even the rest of Europe about the lead being gay.
The fact is Stone is a bit obsessed with this film and can't understand why most don't "get it" too. I personally like the Theatrical Cut so it's a "bit" of a shame for me if this is based on that.

That wouldn't work at all. The DC is not just the TC minus 8 minutes, the plot has been moved all over the place.
Seeing as Stone clearly prefers the DC going by his commentary I suspect it's the DC which this will be based on.

I suspect it will be a case of if you liked it before then yes but if you didn't then this won't change your mind but it's just a hunch.

Wouldn't that be sweet. The KOH DC is conciderabelt improved over it's mess of a Theatrical Cut. It's gone from an average to fantastic film.

Eww.
I can agree on Kingdom of Heaven's director's cut though.

I absolutely love that cover! So cool! I haven't seen this, so maybe i'll get it based on the nice artwork.
Why?
I thought Alexander was extremely underrated, but I won't buy it again. Might rent it to see what the changes were.
OH MY GOOOD!!!!!! I actually had a premonition about this. I really hope for a R2 release
I love DVDs. Say what you will about triple-dips or quadruple-dips (in the case of Highlander and Independence Day), but DVDs have given film-makers the opportunity to recut, rearrange, reconfigure their films. True, there exists darker consequences to this possibility (as in the aforementioned examples of releases), but if it was not for DVD, could we have had two Exorcists: The Beginnings? Or a Kingdom of Heaven extended edition? Or Lord of the Rings? Putting the Lord of The Rings on VHS or Laserdisc would have been cumbersome, tiresome and without the quality of DVD.
I will be either renting this or purchasing it. Perhaps... both?

Well said.
one word: Pathetic!
I feel sad that Oliver Stone's name would be on this corperate exploitation. I wouldnt mind buying a "director approved" version if I knew that cut came from the heart of the director. What cut is this one. The "we didnt make enough on this movie so we have to try to get you to buy another version" version?
Oh, my God!!! Oliver, give it a rest, it's like he's beating a dead horse until he liquifies the carcass!
I'm pretty happy about this! I never bought this movie, and I wanna see 300. It's a win-win!
this movie was horrible!!! what was up with the acid trip elephant battle...i was so looking forward to this movie...and left the theatre feeling...well...like the acid trip..."did I just really sit through a three hour c**pfest?!?"
I would like to check out a version of this someday as I've heard it's a laugh. As for it bombing because it had homosexual stuff in, I think that's rubbish as Brokeback Mountain proved just a year later, and as stuff like Queer as Folk has amply proven over here already. I personally think it was more about these guys being Irish more than the homosexual stuff. Not being racist or anything, but to deliberately have them as Irish when they're meant to be classic historical figures from Greece... just a bit strange to me and to everyone else from comments I've heard.

Exactly! The cover art is cool though but blah. The Rosario Dawson nudity in the film was pointless and served nothing.Nice to look at but added nothing.

Quote: Burbank, CA, December 18, 2006. At last, audiences can experience Oliver Stone’s Alexander as he meant it to be seen, with Alexander Revisited: The Unrated Final Cut , available on 2-disc DVD February 27. Featuring more than 45 minutes of never-before-seen footage, the spectacle of Alexander is even more impressive with this all-new unrated version which brings the film to a heightened level of realism and intensity. Containing an introduction by Oliver Stone, the title will sell for $24.98 SRP. Orders are due January 23. HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions will be released later in the year.
The new introduction to Alexander Revisited: The Unrated Final Cut DVD reflects Stone’s passion and attention to detail in getting this film exactly the way he envisioned. Says Stone, “Over the last two years I have been able to sort out some of the unanswered questions about this highly complicated and passionate monarch -- questions I failed to answer dramatically enough. This film represents my complete and last version, as it will contain all the essential footage we shot. I don’t know how many filmmakers have managed to make three versions of the same film, but I have been fortunate to have the opportunity because of the success of video and DVD sales in the world, and I felt if I didn’t do it now, with the energy and memory I still have for the subject, it would never quite be the same again. For me, this is the complete Alexander, the clearest interpretation I can offer.”
Alexander grossed $167M worldwide during its initial theatrical run and previous DVDs have sold nearly 3 and a half million units to date, but Alexander: Revisited promises to be a whole new experience for audiences. Now restructured into two acts with an intermission, Alexander: Revisited is an epic of filmmaking in the manner of such cinema classics as Lawrence of Arabia and Gone with the Wind. Oliver Stone, one of cinema's most prolific innovators, and the recipient of three Academy Awards®, has directed such unforgettable films as Platoon, Wall Street, Born on the Fourth of July, JFK, The Doors, Natural Born Killers, Nixon, Any Given Sundayand his most recent, the moving drama World Trade Center
Alexander: Revisited takes a bolder, more in-depth look at Alexander’s (Colin Farrell) life and his relationships with his mother, Olympias (Angelina Jolie), his father Philip (Val Kilmer), his lifelong friend and battle commander Hephaistion (Jared Leto), Roxane, his ambitious and beautiful Bactrian wife (Rosario Dawson), and his trusted general and confidant Ptolemy (Anthony Hopkins). The new film intensifies the beauty and unbelievable brutality of Alexander’s pre-Christian world of social customs and morals so different from todays.
The superb cast also boasts Christopher Plummer, Jonathan Rhys Meyers and many more.
Torn by the war between his parents (Jolie and Kilmer), Alexander left Greece to face massive armies in Persia, Afghanistan and India -- and was never defeated. "Fortune favors the bold" and Alexander was bold enough to command vast armies when he was just 25 years old. In the end, Alexander would face incredible battles that would re-shape the world as known today. A sweeping story of the greatest conqueror in history, this timeless saga comes alive with intense battle scenes, exotic locales and dramatic intrigue. It’s a searing moviemaking achievement that the Chicago Tribune called “vast, riveting and madly audacious,” while Gannett News Service hailed it as “a Hollywood rarity – a story of passionate people told with genuine, unadulterated passion.”
The DVD release date of Alexander: Revisited is timed to leverage audience anticipation of ‘300,’ the action-packed theatrical release from film and comics visionary Frank Miller. Every DVD unit of Alexander: Revisited will include a movie cash offer (a $10.50 value) for ‘300.’
In theaters March 9, 2007, ‘300’ is the story of a legendary, warrior-filled battle for Sparta, set in the ancient world. Frank Miller commands a legion of fans himself for such works as Sin City and the graphic novel Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, among many others.
