This movie is an appalling piece of s**t.
I'm glad everyone immediately theorizes that Blu-Ray favoritism led to the imbalance in features. Perhaps they just don't fit on the one disc DVD, and it isn't cost-effective to release a 2-disc DVD. I mean, in the case of Warner Bros., I understand this argument -- their DVDs often have NO features, and the Blu-Ray has lots of material, but in this case, I can easily believe that the movie and 3 featurettes command the majority of available space on a single DVD.
Also, the reason they make the combo packs is so that DVD owners can buy it, get the exact same DVD disc they were already going to buy anyway, and be ready for the time when they too can get ahold of a Blu-Ray player. Is there any reason not to do this when the price difference is usually about $5 (DVD $19.99, Blu-Ray $24.99)?
ETA: I see above that someone said "I DO NOT WANT TO UPGRADE TO BLU-RAY!" Why not? Clearly, the extras you want are on BD. Just buy a really cheap BD player, don't upgrade your TV, and voila: you have the extras you wanted. You could complain that you'll be paying more for the more-expensive discs, but you know, you'd be paying more for the 2-Disc Special Edition than you would for the 1-disc edition, too, at very likely the same amount of increase. Since Blu-Ray players can easily be had in the $100 range, it's just plain stubbornness that would keep you from upgrading at this point. Nobody will make you re-buy all of your old movies, and the DVDs are backwards compatible.

Only if there is a $10 off coupon will I buy this. I'll give it another go, I wasn't very impressed with it on the theater, I fell a sleep. Maybe it will play better at home.

So... will the DVD/Blu Ray combo have all the special features playable on the DVD side too? Otherwise it's not worth it.
I'm angry that DVD owners are getting shafted on special features. I love Burton films. I love the COLLECTIBLE versions with all the special features. But I DO NOT WANT TO UPGRADE TO BLU RAY!!

Can't say anything about this film as I haven't seen it yet, but I'm a huge Tim Burton fan and have everything he's ever done on DVD and/or BD. Can't say that he's done a single film that I don't love. (yes even POTA)
Actually, I quite like Mars Attacks! That's why I said what I said. As for Alice, it's a dry movie. I never felt involved in it. It's like Eragon, Narnia 1, or Golden Compass all over again.

By "most accessible" do you mean "most easily swallowed by the masses of mindless Hot Topic drones who wouldn't know a decent fantasy film if it walked up and smacked them in the face?" Because if that's what you meant, then sure. It totally is.
And I'll say it again: the effects in this movie were godawful. GOD. AWFUL. Design was unoriginal, final product looked utterly half-assed.
Everyone should boycott this garbage and check out something original and thought-provoking like Ink.

Although I'd wish Burton would stop casting his wife and Johnny Depp in every movie he does, it's getting tiresome.
And I hate Disney's FastPlay option. Hate it, hate it. This is a live-action film Disney, we don't need it.

Obviously Tim Burton should have titled this movie "The Mad Hatter" because that character is front and center on both covers. So sad...won't waste my money on this piece of $hit film.
Trust me. Both "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" and "How to Train Your Dragon" are way better than this "$hit" of a film that we will both call. Believe me. If you don't want to see these two movies I listed, then fine. But if you saw both of them and liked them, you would be very happy that you listen to me because I said so.

I'll wait for the double dip Blu-ray 3D version
I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. I don't know which one I'll buy, primarily because I don't know how often I would watch this movie.
I don't understand why people are saying "Well, the movie was just alright, but the visuals were great." Um... NO! In what way, exactly, were the visuals great? The effects looked like they weren't even finished, it looked like cartoony pre-viz colored in with fuzzy magic markers (not to mention how little the 3D did), and more importantly, NOTHING about the visual design was original. It was derivative of every film Burton has done; everything was either dark and spiky or bright and spiraly. Basically, it was ripped from Nightmare or Charlie, or both of them mixed together.
This movie SUCKS.

No commentary for this? Burton usually do them.
Here's a list of films he's done commentaries for:
Batman (2-Disc Special Edition DVD & BD)
Edward Scissorhands (10th Anniversary Special Edition DVD & BD)
Batman Returns (2-Disc Special Edition DVD & BD)
Nightmare Before Christmas (New 2--Disc Special Edition DVD & BD)
Ed Wood (Special Edition DVD)
Sleepy Hollow (Special Edition DVD, HD DVD & BD)
Planet of the Apes (2-Disc Special Edition DVD & BD)
Big Fish (Special Edition DVD & BD)
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (HD DVD exclusive)

I totally agree! I'm a big Tim Burton fan, and even though I liked the movie, I would've much rather seen a Mad Hatter movie. They obviously made a history there and it could've been a far more original and entertaining movie. Still, I will be buying the blu-ray combo edition.

So call the movie ALICE in wonderland and have Depp the center of attention on two of the covers and ONLY him on the Blu ray cover? How retarded is that?
And Disney sure does a great job plastering their freaking name all over the releases. From the cover and spine alone I counted the logo 5 times. 6 on the SE!

Relax, there's high probability that somebody will release their extra-loaded-version DVD. The same thing happened to Terminator 4.

sadly this is becoming the norm, giving less extras (in some cases none) to the dvd while the blu-ray has a lot. this was such a huge movie that if the dvd is so bare now, i doubt it'll ever get more until they double dip in the future. but even that isn't a sure thing.
when they announced the X-Men trilogy for blu-ray, i figured they were releasing dvd versions at the same time but they didnt. so dvd ownwers are still stuck with a barebones Part 3 while the blu-ray has a few hours worth of extras.

Yeh I still dont know how i feel about this. I saw it in 3-D and liked some of it, but just didnt get into the story and like some said it did have boring parts. I wont be buying it though. I will wait and see it again when it comes on tv. I do like all the cover arts though
I wish this was American McGee's Alice. That has more of a Tim Burton feel than this mix-bag mess.
I never thought Mad Hatter was the star of ALICE in Wonderland. Why doesn't Tim Burton just have sex with Johnny Depp, cuz there is obviously an unhealthy infatuation there bordering on "love knife". You would think Crispin Glover and Johnny Depp together in a movie would've been fantastic, man was I mistaken.
I agree with Michael Cordwell, his agreeing users too and Kyle Mertes. Wolfarcher, TubedUp909, that means you as well.
I was another one that wasn't impressed by it. I had to see this movie twice, the second time for a party and it really wasn't that good. It's not really the story I grew up watching. I thought this movie was entirely irrelevant compared to the cartoon (which I have enjoyed very much so growing up as a kid).
I was much happier watching "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" instead. I was also more impressed (but not as surprised) with "How to Train Your Dragon" than that one.

Alice in Wonderland was pretty decent in my opinion. Although, I expected something epic, but what I got was just a fun movie. The visuals were phenomenal! It doesn't bother me that they aren't releasing the 3-D version until 2011 because the 3-D in this movie was just okay. You can tell it was converted, instead of actually shot in 3-D. I might buy.
This movie was absolutely godawful. Nothing about it was original; it is the Hot Topic version of what Burton's Alice would be. Everyone in it seemed bored, the effects were horrible, and even Depp as the Mad Hatter was just irritating and lame. I lost respect for everyone involved on this film. (Except Elfman; his score was still pretty good.)
I was really disappointed with this film. It just didn't agree with me. Not exactly the twisted Alice in Wonderland movie I was hoping for. Tim Burton REALLY needs to go back doing original films instead of remakes/sequels/existing-properties
I find it strange that the 1-disc Blu-Ray slipcover is BETTER than the 3-disc Blu-Ray slipcover.

Absolutely, Bouncy X.
Have the DVD equal; that is the say those which are NOT exclusive to the format such as BD Live and the like. I have no problems with Blu-Rays having exclusives. But stuff native to that scheme.
The film I'm the most excited about this year is "Tron Legacy", but I fear the DVD release will be bare bones.

i think they're confused.....they do that sorta stuff, give blu-ray more features but then they go and create the blu-dvd combo idea. i mean they're even creating double sided discs that have dvd on one side and blu on the other.
either stop making dvds altogether or if you're gonna keep em around, then give the same attention they used to.
i'm completely converted but dvds are gonna be around for a while so i dont get whey they do this c**p. oh and then another funny thing, they'll release a movie on blu-ray that had a good dvd special edition with many extras, but the blu version either barely has any or is completely barebones.
its just retarded. lol

My b-day is June 20th. I know what I'll be asking for. The Blu/DVD combo set. Only two things disappoint me about the set, however. One is that Avril Lavigne's music video for Alice (Underground), which I love, won't be included in any of the releases it seems, and two, I wish they'd found a way to incorporate the Red Queen, the White Queen, and the Knaive on the cover. Heck, even the Jabberwocky. Still, if they had to only have the four characters from the film that's on the cover, they should have put Alice in the center, not the Mad Hatter. I know JD has top billing, but, the movie is called ALICE in Wonderland.
And the studios continue to screw over those of us yet to upgrade to BluRay!
