I really wanted to see this in theaters. I will try and get the HD DVD combo version. I really do prefer the 2 disc art tho
Whoa! A whole extra 20 minutes? This should be interesting.
Unfortunatetly the HD DVD cover art is different than that of the great artwork of the 2-Disc standard definition. Here is hoping to see the same artwork for the HD DVD edition.
Just when I thought they couldn't make this movie any longer...
Anyways, great movie, I'll probably pick up the 2-disc edition; even though I prefer the single disc version(most likely like the HD DVD version)...

Missed this at the theater,I was gonna go check it out but it left my local theater. Will give this a solid blind buy for sure. It's a Ridley Scott film, I have seen all his films except this one and enjoyed every single film of his alot.
Whenever this is released, watch Paramount blow another oppurtunity to release 1492: Conquest Of Paradise for the 1st time on region 1 DVD. They are doing nothing with the film currently. I'd say it would be wise to release it with this Scott blockbuster. If Sony can re-release Hudson Hawk to tie in with Live Free Or Die Hard, why not 1492 to tie in with American Gangster, Armand Assante is in both films. Ok, sorry about the 1492 rant, it's a Ridley Scott film that needs a region 1 DVD.

Never saw this but will be buying the hd dvd, Wish the studios would give options on these combo disc. How about a non combo option!
Looking forward to this release

All his films from Gladiator to White Squall imo have been solid productions. They may not appeal to everyone, but that is to be expected with any kind of art.

This was one of my favourite movies of this year. I did feel they probably left out a lot of story, though, and I'd love to see the extra 20 minutes. They should include a documentary about the history behind making the movie, talking to guys like Antoine Fuqua. That would be interesting.
Saw this for the first time on Friday. Really solid
I will buy the extended edition.
This is the one 2+ hour movie that really didn't bore me, so yeah, I'll get this.

Excellent, I can't wait to see the new cut, although I hate the "unrated" tag - what is this, a "SAW" sequel?
That aside, though, what a great film - I wonder where the extra material will be? The last 15 minutes or so of the theatrical cut felt rushed and hasty to me - hopefully the new cut will more fully flesh out the falling action.

WOW! Great news.
That cover art rocks. It's a pity the HD-DVD isn't getting it
I wonder what titles will be in the Gangster box set?

Superb movie, saw it last week.
American Gangster is one of the best films of 2007. I will buy the 2 disc unrated extended edition. I know that the 2 disc will have great documentaries about the making of this epic and about the real Frank Lucas. Also a commentary by Ridley Scott is almost certain. One thing you know about a Scott movie, it's that it will have a great dvd release because of his dvd producer, Charles de Lauzirika.
You know. I actually missed out on this film. Will rent it.
hmmm...extended and not director's cut...I'm wary of what that means--esp. if it doesn't include the theatrical.
Ridley has proven serious as hell about his cuts--ok with alternate cuts but having definitive opinions on what is "HIS" cut--see Alien (he maintains the original is the be-all end-all) or Gladiator, or the opposite with Blade Runner, Legend and Kingdom of Heaven.
So, if they call this "extended" then how ok is Ridley with it?
Hmm.

20 more minutes? Bring it! One of the best films of 2007. Can't wait.
Ridley Scott is a fan of various cuts of his films, isn't he? well...so am I
Excellent Movie. Excellent Artowrk and an extra 20 minutes. 2 Disc Extended for me.

As a Ridley Scott enthusiast, I will say confidently that the theatrical cut is the director's cut. At this stage in his career, Scott has final cut over medium-budget films. The only exception to this is Kingdom of Heaven (which as we all know, was vastly improved by more story). Gladiator's theatrical cut is the director's cut, as he stated on the DVD.
I was disappointed in American Gangster. The Russell Crowe part of the story was the best bits for me. We found out who he was, where he's going and why. We saw the procedure and the dangers.
But the Denzel portion of the film was thin, character wise. I'm supposed to assume that he was taught to be a bad-ass by his mentor. I would have liked to have seen these bits. I just felt that Denzel's character seemed to be flat and 2 dimensional.
Hopefully an extended cut (which is normally offered with Ridley Scott's approval) will assuage my concerns with the film. I mean, Kingdom of Heaven is one of my favourite movies, but I won't watch the theatrical cut for the life of me. If this extended cut is followed by a director's cut, then I will buy it. Ridley Scott is one of the few directors that I will trust with alternate cuts.
Sorry that seems rambling. Essentially what I'm saying is that it's the extended cut for me, and the artwork is frigging badass.

This is Awesome!
So pissed I missed this.Ridley Scott is the man and this looks amazing.
Says the other films in the Gangster set are "Goodfellas", "Casino", and "Carlito's Way". Be nice if they released an HD-DVD Gangster set, considering all four are on HD-DVD, although I'd only buy the "American Gangster" as I have the others on HD-DVD.

No, it says Scarface, Casino, and Carlito's Way.

Nice.
the artwork kicks butt.
I've bought my last combo disc as they keep spurting out error codes for me, so i sure hope they'll reconsider releasing this as a combo disc.
This is the only movie that I've seen, where Cuba Gooding Jr. didn't suck.
Cool cover, but 20 MORE MINUTES? Why? The movie lagged on for far too long as it is. I enjoyed the performances and the last 40 minutes or so, but as I said, it could have been cut down, and I guess I expected more.
