Usually I use the best file searcher- http://megauploadfiles.com/
I picked up the 2-disc of this; the 3-disc just isn't worth the extra $15, for a BET featurette and some music videos. I'm happy with my 2-disc.
Don't plan on using the 3rd Disc's Digital Copy for itunes or your ipod. It only works for Windows Media Player according to the back of the 3 Disc Edition. I guess ill just be using HandBrake or some other dvd ripping program to put it on my ipod. The packaging is decent, at least they toned down the words "Collector's Edition" on the front.
Cool!
Saw this twice in the theatre loved it.
I will defintly be picking up the 3 Disc Collector's Edition even though the 2 Disc art is better but i always like to get the better edition which is the 3 Disc Edition.

Excellent film. Glad I caught it at the cinema.
I just hope there's a 3-Disc Edition coming to Australia....

You would think they would push for the best of everything on HD-DVD as they try to show what it can do in a effort to "win the war"
Once again Universal screws HD-DVD owners over. Is it really hard to make a 2 disc HD-DVD for once like Paramount does? First we get screwed over on the extras for Knocked Up and now this.
theatrical cut!!! i'm totally sold now (and i haven't even seen the movie yet)
I will for sure get the 3 disc
Definitely a check out. Heard it was really good but I missed out on that one.
I was thinking that too, but if it's only $5 more, and includes a book and better packaging, I think I'll stick with the 3 disc.
You know, I was sold on the 3 disc until I saw what I'd be paying extra for. Those features all look astoundigly stupid. Looks like I'll be going with the more economical 2 disc on this one.
The 3 disc collector's edition is a must buy. Even HD DVD owners won't get all those features and the cool packaging. For once, standard dvd wins over high definition dvd on those criteria.
On the surface, it looks like the HD won't have all the extras that the 3-disc does. But since it has the U-Control feature, I bet you anything that is how the extras are going to be presented. At least I hope that's the way it is.
Full details added
If the HD disc doesn't have all the extras that the 3-disc has, I'm gonna s**t a brick.
This comes out on the 19th of Febuary for those who are curious
Im guessing for the HD DVD Combo that the HD side will have the Unrated Extended cut and the DVD side will have the Theatrical cut. Just like Miami Vice.

In my opinion, his director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven was his best. It was a masterpiece, and a damn shame it wasn't shown in theaters, instead chopped to pieces. The man deserves an Oscar!
And Denzel Washington, he'll always be Alonzo Harris to me

Is the HD combo release the 2 disc? or the 3?
That revised HD-DVD artwork is much better.
Any ideas if it gets the 2 Disc or 3 Disc extras?
Combo is a weird one. I've yet to find anyone who likes it yet they use it anyway.

You know, that "JckBateman" guy makes some good points. If the combo format was a positive thing for HD-DVD, then why are both Universal and Warner re-issuing many of their combos as HD-DVD only releases.
The question is: why are they still making new titles in the combo format when they've basically acknowledged that it is a flawed concept?

Can They Please Stop With The Combo Format Discs - 1.The Skips 2.More Money 3.If You Really Want High Def To Take Off You Need To Seperate From SD-DVD
I usually hate Combo Format, but in this case I'll pick up the HD DVD straightaway, since it would probably takes forever for Universal to reissue this and this is one of the best film this year IMO!!
Combo.... ughhhh
Yes! They kept the 2 disc cover artwork for the HD DVD edition as well. I love it, though I hate Combo disc from Universal.
Excellent looking package on the 3 disc. Missed it in cinema (so far, don`t know if it`s still playing) so I`ll be getting this one :D
What I actually find somewhat cool is the third disc. You can actually download the digital copy for "American Gangster." I'm going to rent the movie when it comes out. Hopefully, I'll get the movie for my birthday if my family can get it for me. Hopefully, I'll get the 3-Disc Edition. I can download the digital copy for the movie. But what's really sad is that you can't actually download the digital copy onto your Apple Computer. That's what I have experienced when I got Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix on DVD. However, I do have a PC computer, I don't use it that often. Oh well! Enough said.
Thanks.
I can read Unrated Extended Edition on the left but cannot make out what the right side says. I'll take your word for it.
If that's the case the 2 Disc version will also have both cuts. There's no way Disc 1 or Disc 2 will be different from the 3 Disc version.
I guess we can presume the shorter Theatrical Cut is Scott's Director's Cut. It usually says if the Extended Cut is the Director's Cut.

Fantastic. It will be neat to see what extras are on teh three disc of American Gangster. I have been going through the five disc Blade Runner set (not much left to watch- only some content on disc 3 and look for anything I missed)
The 3-disc looks like it has both versions.

Where are users getting this info from? It's not mentioned in the press release above.
If the third disc is just the Theatrical Cut I won't be bothering to pay an inflated price for it.
If you look at the picture with the 3 discs, look at the first disc, you can figure out it says "Unrated Extended Edition" on the left side of the disc and "Original Theatrical Film" on the right side.

I'am totally getting the 3 disc set, a good collection to see right after i finish Blade Runner 5 disc set. 2 down, 3 to go.
Not too impressed with the 3-disc packaging...oh well, it's Universal so it's not like I'm gonna find it on blu-ray anyway!
Glad to hear the original cut is also included on the 3-disc package. Definitely going with that one.

Not that's it's as goo as those but still very good.

...a BIG difference.

Nice, so a 3-disc was announced? I'll be getting that now, and the cover is great too. Can't wait.

Wow a 3 disc!
is the black and white cover a knockoff of Scarface where Denzel is holding the gun?
Well, seeing as this is Ridley Scott, a 3-disc set is expected. Ex. Gladiator 3-disc, Kingdom of Heaven 4-disc, Black Hawk Down 3-disc, etc.
hopefully the border around the 3-disc is just for advertising purposes, it does ruin the artwork, i don't know how many times they need to plaster the words "collector's edition" on it.
the 2-disc artwork looks a lot nicer than the 3... Now I have no Idea as to which one I'll purchase!
Is this worth a blind buy??
I bet the HD-DVD has the 2 Disc extras but not the third LE content. That's what they did with Ray on DVD then later HD-DVD.
Like that they are using the original poster as the artwork but do they need the giant border with "COLLECTOR'S EDITION" and "3 DISCS" on it? I think a sticker would have sufficed, the thicker book style packaging and higher price kinda give it away too.
Gonna pick up the HD-DVD but I hope Universal doesn't screw us over like they did with Knocked Up on the extras. Hot Fuzz's HD-DVD had more extras than the regular DVD but Knocked Up didn't have any of the extras from the 2-disc. What's up with that?
I loved this flick...I'm totally picking up the 3-Disc...
Don't know which one I want. I'll most likely pick up that 9 disc set with AG, Scarface, Casino, and Carlito's Way.
I think I'll buy both, then combine them for a super-duper, uber-goober 5-disc mega-edition.
If my mom gives me enough money.

The press release doesn't mention the Theatrical Cut at all. I'm guessing it's Extended Cut only.
I prefer the 2 Disc cover art too but both are fab, very Scarfaceish. I'll be getting the HD-DVD though. I'll wait for the cheaper UK HD-DVD without silly Combo option.

OH MY GOD! 3-DISC for me! although i have to admit it that this movie is nothing ground-breaking...something we've seen before.but then again it's very well made and i enjoyed it very much.
Wow. A 3-Disc Special Edition. That sounds pretty cool. Where's the street date?
Nice - that 3 disc will be mine.
Although I'm glad they used the movie poster artwork for the 3-Disc Set (which is the version I'll be getting), I like the artwork for the 2-Disc better.
Any news if the HD-DVD will be getting the 2 Disc or 3 Disc extras?
I bet like Ray the HD-DVD will be stiffed

Denzel @ his best like always...Russell Crowe was average like always...Modern Day Crime Drama Classic...That Can Stand with GoodFellas And The Departed!!!
love the movie, love the covers, got to get it
Damn, Ridley Scott really knows how to make his fans happy. The 3 disc collector's edition will be a must buy.
They get to carried away with these 2-disc editions. And they are so crazy because now they are having a 3-disc collector's edition. What's up with that?
Artwork added for a 3-disc collectors edition...
F**kin' A.
Will be getting this one on release day. Denzel and Russell's best team-up since....well....Virtuosity!

Ah, I see the fanboy filter is broken again. It's not on BD because it's a Universal release, obviously. If you can't tell the difference between standard definition and HD DVD there's something wrong with your eyes. Odds are in a blind test you wouldn't be able to tell the difference between BD and HD DVD either, so stop talking out of your arse.
Blue-Kal-El wrote: Let's bash Lucas, but not Scott?!?! WTF!?!?
I think the distinction there is that Lucas all-but denies the existence of previous incarnations of his films, whereas Scott releases five-disc sets with multiple versions and allows the viewer to make up his or her mind. This would seem to be a case of the studio taking the decision to release an extended cut, not Scott. American Gangster might actually benefit from slight extensions to some scenes. This was far from his best, which for me has always been Alien.

I'm still eagerly anticipating the extended version of Scott's magnum opus, "A Good Year."
But maybe that's just me.

Is there anybody that knows if the HD DVD version is also the Unrated Extended Edition???
Cool cover, but 20 MORE MINUTES? Why? The movie lagged on for far too long as it is. I enjoyed the performances and the last 40 minutes or so, but as I said, it could have been cut down, and I guess I expected more.
This is the only movie that I've seen, where Cuba Gooding Jr. didn't suck.
I've bought my last combo disc as they keep spurting out error codes for me, so i sure hope they'll reconsider releasing this as a combo disc.
the artwork kicks butt.
Nice.

This is Awesome!
FangsFirst wrote: hmmm...extended and not director's cut...I'm wary of what that means--esp. if it doesn't include the theatrical.
Ridley has proven serious as hell about his cuts--ok with alternate cuts but having definitive opinions on what is "HIS" cut--see Alien (he maintains the original is the be-all end-all) or Gladiator, or the opposite with Blade Runner, Legend and Kingdom of Heaven.
So, if they call this "extended" then how ok is Ridley with it?
Hmm.
As a Ridley Scott enthusiast, I will say confidently that the theatrical cut is the director's cut. At this stage in his career, Scott has final cut over medium-budget films. The only exception to this is Kingdom of Heaven (which as we all know, was vastly improved by more story). Gladiator's theatrical cut is the director's cut, as he stated on the DVD.
I was disappointed in American Gangster. The Russell Crowe part of the story was the best bits for me. We found out who he was, where he's going and why. We saw the procedure and the dangers.
But the Denzel portion of the film was thin, character wise. I'm supposed to assume that he was taught to be a bad-ass by his mentor. I would have liked to have seen these bits. I just felt that Denzel's character seemed to be flat and 2 dimensional.
Hopefully an extended cut (which is normally offered with Ridley Scott's approval) will assuage my concerns with the film. I mean, Kingdom of Heaven is one of my favourite movies, but I won't watch the theatrical cut for the life of me. If this extended cut is followed by a director's cut, then I will buy it. Ridley Scott is one of the few directors that I will trust with alternate cuts.
Sorry that seems rambling. Essentially what I'm saying is that it's the extended cut for me, and the artwork is frigging badass.

You know. I actually missed out on this film. Will rent it.
American Gangster is one of the best films of 2007. I will buy the 2 disc unrated extended edition. I know that the 2 disc will have great documentaries about the making of this epic and about the real Frank Lucas. Also a commentary by Ridley Scott is almost certain. One thing you know about a Scott movie, it's that it will have a great dvd release because of his dvd producer, Charles de Lauzirika.
Superb movie, saw it last week.
WOW! Great news.
That cover art rocks. It's a pity the HD-DVD isn't getting it
I wonder what titles will be in the Gangster box set?

Excellent, I can't wait to see the new cut, although I hate the "unrated" tag - what is this, a "SAW" sequel?
That aside, though, what a great film - I wonder where the extra material will be? The last 15 minutes or so of the theatrical cut felt rushed and hasty to me - hopefully the new cut will more fully flesh out the falling action.

Saw this for the first time on Friday. Really solid
This was one of my favourite movies of this year. I did feel they probably left out a lot of story, though, and I'd love to see the extra 20 minutes. They should include a documentary about the history behind making the movie, talking to guys like Antoine Fuqua. That would be interesting.
Looking forward to this release

All his films from Gladiator to White Squall imo have been solid productions. They may not appeal to everyone, but that is to be expected with any kind of art.

Never saw this but will be buying the hd dvd, Wish the studios would give options on these combo disc. How about a non combo option!
Missed this at the theater,I was gonna go check it out but it left my local theater. Will give this a solid blind buy for sure. It's a Ridley Scott film, I have seen all his films except this one and enjoyed every single film of his alot.
Whenever this is released, watch Paramount blow another oppurtunity to release 1492: Conquest Of Paradise for the 1st time on region 1 DVD. They are doing nothing with the film currently. I'd say it would be wise to release it with this Scott blockbuster. If Sony can re-release Hudson Hawk to tie in with Live Free Or Die Hard, why not 1492 to tie in with American Gangster, Armand Assante is in both films. Ok, sorry about the 1492 rant, it's a Ridley Scott film that needs a region 1 DVD.

Just when I thought they couldn't make this movie any longer...
Anyways, great movie, I'll probably pick up the 2-disc edition; even though I prefer the single disc version(most likely like the HD DVD version)...

Unfortunatetly the HD DVD cover art is different than that of the great artwork of the 2-Disc standard definition. Here is hoping to see the same artwork for the HD DVD edition.
Whoa! A whole extra 20 minutes? This should be interesting.
I really wanted to see this in theaters. I will try and get the HD DVD combo version. I really do prefer the 2 disc art tho
