First Look Home Entertainment has announced the upcoming release of An American Crime for 5th February 2008. Directed by Tommy O'Haver and starring: Ellen Page, Catherine Keener and Hayley McFarland, this film follows a true story about a teenager who was imprisoned and tortured to death in a cellar. The DVD will present An American Crime in an R rated release with a widescreen transfer and optional Spanish subtitles. No further details are known about this release, but we will provide more information as it becomes available.

Why is it called "An American Crime"? Nothing unique about this happening in America at all.
Sounds like more disdain aimed at America to me.

i hope this isn't straight-to-video. i really wanted a theatrical release. i've heard nothing but amazing things about the performances in this one. especially from the always wonderful Catherine Keener.

First found about this story when I was looking through Ellen Page's filmography after X-Men 3 came out. I've been reading up on the case and this movie ever since. Probably willing to blind buy it.

Odd, I wonder if it'll go to theaters. It looks fantastic, a potential Oscar win for Keener just from seeing the trailer.

You say this is not a true story! Thats pathetic. I am not trying to be rude! But do you know who Sylvia Likens is? Have you read the books. Do you even know what this movie is about? From my understanding you don't. I live right here in Indianapolis where this horrible event took place. This young 16 year old girl had her innocent life taken from her! Iv'e been to the house where Sylvia was killed, that house on New York St. is now a shelter for battered and abused woman & children. I take personal offense to others and the horrible comments they make about this movie. My in-laws grew up 2 blocks from this house and went to school with the Likens and the children who did this to her. So I am not trying to be rude again I just want the facts to be known. (This is about a true story! The officer's of Indianapolis have made a memorial for Sylvia Likens in 2001.) DO YOUR RESEARCH BEFORE YOU MAKE STUPID COMMENTS LIKE THAT!
