My favorite film of 2009, charming and wonderfully presented. Carey Mulligan is absolutely fantastic in this. Alfred Molina also should be noted for his exceptional supporting performance.

I thought that was a charming film. Great story but I'll pass on seeing it again. I think once in the theater was just fine with me.
I love this movie! Glad they kept the beautiful, original image from the one-sheet. I wished they scoot 'Academy Award Nominations 2009' down a little bit so it's flush with 3. :D
I really wanna check this out. In a theater or on Blu. Big Sarsgaard fan and the story seemed intriguing. Plus it's one of the 3 BP nominees I have yet to see.
I really wanted to check this one out. I'll rent the DVD if it doesn't come around my way again before the Oscars.
me too i wish i saw this in the theater
Anyone else find the cover a little cluttered?

Agree about all the quotes on the cover could be smaller. But I'm glad they use the image from the Original Poster, this is one of the very few occasions I went out and bought the Original 1-Sheet as well.

THE BEST FILM OF 2009! It came to my theater for one week after the Oscar nominations came out and I caught it on the last night. Every once in a while a film comes along that reminds you of why you love movies. For me, "An Education" is one of those films. I adored every minute of it. It is so well-done in every respect. Carey Mulligan gives the best female performance of the year. It is such a joke that Sandra Bullock is going to win the Best Actress Oscar over her. I couldn't believe how terrific she was. Everyone else is really good, but she truly shines as Jenny. I am now a huge fan of hers.
This is a very intelligent, witty, and thoughtful drama. I enjoyed it immensely. It's the only 2009 film I would award a perfect rating.
I will get the Blu-ray right away.

I agree completely that Carey gave the best female lead performance of the year. It saddens me as well that she will have little chance of winning the Oscars, after winning almost every major critic awards last year. Actually, I would have been fine if Meryl Streep or Gabourey Sidibe takes the top honor, because both also gave terrific performances. I liked Sandra in The Blind Side, but her performance is nowhere near the level of other nominees (and non-nominee, Abbie Cornish for the criminally underrated Bright Star) IMHO.
An Education came a long way from last year's Sundance, so it's heartbreaking for Carey's fan really. Hopefully she takes the BAFTA tomorrow, fingers crossed.
But then again, it may be a good thing for Carey not to win now. I mean, look at a lot of young winners recently, most of them hardly ever lived up to expectations; i.e. Anna Paquin, Mira Sorvino etc. It will be interesting to see how it will turns out for her in the upcoming Wall Street 2 and Never Let Me Go.

If you think this is the best movie of the year, then you haven't seen a lot of movies this year. It's far from it. It was decent entertaining but I honestly didn't get the point. The protagonist was annoying from the beginning though the acting was good. I liked the movie better when it was The Thumbsucker. And what the hell was the point of Graham's character?

Carey won the BAFTA. I'm so happy for her.

I'm sorry but was there even a point? Maybe but the film itself is a bore and the characters are all despicable except the teacher that's about it.

This movie is so boring, I guess pedophilia is legal in sixties Britain.
Mulligan is good though.
Mulligan is good though.

There is a point to the story. It's a story about the transformation of a young girl into a woman. It's 95% on RT, it is still one of the best review films if the year.
It's the best film of the year for many people, not just people on this forum. Personally, I don't think it's the best of the year, but it's definitely my favorite, and yes I've seen a lot of films every year. Just because people don't put The White Ribbon, Revanche or A Prophet for their 'best film of the year' doesn't mean they haven't seen enough. This argument is so old already. Get over yourself, time to grow up.
Do people need to start listing their 'watch list' of every year, to even start a discussion? Please.

I haven't even seen White Ribbon or Prophet but they look a tad more interesting than this.
The transformation of a woman concept has done before many times. This was just very predictable.
There were far superior films than this. It's not a bad film but I hardly considerate of the year's most memorable ones.

It is indeed a good film, perhaps the negative comments are from a "demographic" that's not used to this sort of story?

Mal, I'm not quite sure. Though, I'm glad you liked it. And I'm already excited about another film from this year's Sundance, Winter's Bone, which may just put Jennifer Lawrence on the map.
I didn't expect much from this film but I really enjoyed it.
