It's the same company. Live Entertainment became Artisan Entertainment, which was then purchased by Lions Gate.

I think Basic Instint II will bomb its been 14 years! By now who cares?
I'll stick with my unrated/ice pick version. Even if the ink in my pen has dried up!
A DTS track 'may' have warranted another purchase. As it stands now... no thanks.

ARTISION/LIVE/IVE
Live owned "Carlco Home Video Rights" they renamed the company ( on the home package) as Artisian however they were still called "LIVE Entertainment" which was once called "IVE" for International Video Entertainment" which at one time had a major stockholder name SLYVESTER STALLONE

What college do you go to? Most people aren't seventeen? That is quite unusual, indeed. Are you sure you're not really in high school? Try checking the front of the building the next time you walk in and tell me what it says. If you can't figure it out, I'll find out for you.
Can you explain your statement a little better. And for the record, I'm probably one of the oldest in this forum.
Off the topic but this little exchange made me laugh a little

This is a very good film, but I don't see what is all taht different from the earlier edition.
I bought the old version for 5.50 at Wal-Mart and I'm happy with it.

Well, that could actually do with a re-release given that the versions released previously were all of the cut U.S. r-rated version, rather than of the full uncut international version.

What's this? No egotiscal poisen red banner shrieking "PARAMOUNT COLLECTION" at the top? Why, how can it be?

The edition in the bargain bins is Rated "R" or I would have bought it already. I had wanted to buy the cool Unrated Director's Cut version with the neat packaging and ice pick pen but before I had the chance it was taken off shelves and not sold anymore. I do want to buy the movie though, and don't want the "R" version. I think I will have to find a copy of the one with the ice pick pen from a seller on Amazon or Half.com or something. The only thing is that I won't get some of the extras on the older edition, like the audio commentary with Sharon Stone, which I've heard is a good one, and trailers (I love trailers, and love Lions Gate, so if they had some good trailers for upcoming releases of theirs it would be a nice bonus).
Anyway, I thought the movie rocked (and I'm a gay male, not a straight one who just enjoyed it because of all of the female nudity) and will be buying it one way or another, whether it's the version with the ice pick pen or this newer release. I also liked Sliver a lot (though Basic Instinct is better).

Ouch...This was the movie to see when I was like 10 (among 10 year old boys anyway). Saw it again recently and was disappointed.

I'll definitely have to see this someday.

The double-dip is needless, but answer me this: why is the sequel, "Basic Instinct 2: Risk Addiction", being released by Sony? Aren't the movie rights owned by Lions Gate?
I'll stick with the version I have...
That Director's Cut tag makes me chuckle when everywhere else only got the Director's Cut in the first place so no need for the tag ;-D
Next, I'm sure: TOTAL RECALL UE...
Wilfredo, thanks for the info on the Sliver UR dvd. I haven't seen any mention of this anywhere yet, I hope it's true. I am glad they are not complete idiots over there at Paramount afterall, at least not for this.
It is a good movie, but I think I should opt for the WalMart bargain bin DVD over the new release.
I actually never saw this but I am told that I should for some nice eye candy and a cool mystery.
Sliver (unrated)is planned for the 3-28-2006 according to dvdempire.com

Yes, now this is something that should be released, preferably the unrated version.

Ugh...yet another "Ultimate Edition" but with no Ice Pick? I think not.
And yes...thank you BB for bringing up the fact that still Sliver has not been released on DVD. What's up with that? I actually wrote them a letter about it a month or so ago.

Blimey....More multiple releases.
HELLO PARAMOUNT! This would be an ideal day to release "Sliver" on dvd with Sharon Stone for the 1st time. HELLO PARAMOUNT!
the existing special edition can be found in most $5 boxes, and it looks pretty much the same!
I havw it on VHS. I will take a pass on this
Doesn't offer much over the previous release...
Why? I will tell you why - to tie in with Basic Instinct 2 which I predict will be the final nail in Ms. Stone's career coffin.
Nope, not this time...
No ice pick?
