I'm glad i didn't purchase the HD DVD of this. My all time favorite comic adaption. Hopefully Dark Knight is just as good If not better.
I didn't buy the HDDVD version either. Still, I hope that the BDD release will have the extra features that were on the HDDVD release.
I'd say it's a fairly safe bet that the extras from the HD DVD release will find their way onto this one.
It seems to defeat the purpose of including the first five minutes of "The Dark Knight" on the Blu-ray release of "Batman Begins", when that movie will come out in December on DVD and Blu-ray in only five months' time.
Still, an excellent movie -- the Blu-ray had better include that TrueHD track from the HD-DVD (or another uncompressed track) or I'm not buying it.

i just recently watched this on my upconverting player and while its obviously no where near HD quality, it was miles better than my regular player. so i think i'll stick with the regular dvd for now. i'm sure once blu-ray really catches on and prices drop, i might get it if its cheap but yeah.
thats my only complaint against blu-ray, not counting future releases, i have just about every movie i've wanted on regular dvd already and dont wanna rebuy em all so there isnt much to get on blu-ray.
damn you technology

if i had a blu-ray player, i'd pick up the SE
i already own the single-disc

The big question is whether the extras will be Profile 1.1 as they should be or a fake second HD Encode.
Both are possible considering Warner did the latter with T3 and they have almost twice as much space as the HD-DVD to work with.

The gift set box set looks really good. But I won't be picking this up, not a fan of Batman.
I have the HD-DVD Version, which kicks butt. My DVD player is an LG model that plays both HD-DVD and BLu-Ray with no issues. I could be mistaken but didn't they already have a Blu-ray release for Batman Begins?
DVD Limited Edition Gift Set???
Bouncy X, you don't metnion if you've seen the HDDVD version of this movie or not. If you haven't seen it, go check it out before making assertions about the standard def version being good enough. I had the standard def version, got the HDDVD one and in my opinio it blew it out of the water! No going back to standard def for me... Have now sold all my HDDVDs... Blu Ray version of this is a no brainer!
So this is basically the same SD discs than before...the same cover from HD DVD will be on the blu-ray...extra booklets...movie cash...

Nope, nowhere.

The extras will be SD but the film is HD. For those who already own the HD-DVD they can ignore this.
It's just 1 of the 12 Warner BD catch up titles now the BD technology has mostly caught up with HD-DVD.

I'm with you too, Bouncy. I'm staying DVD, the upconvert is just fine to me. Between all the movies I've already bought and the absurd prices, I'm just fine sticking to DVD. If and when Blu-Ray stops becoming a niche format, I will convert to it in the next ten or so years, only buying new films. I may be ignorant in saying this, but even when I compare High Def and DVD, the difference is not nearly as drastic as say, the leap to VCR-DVD, so I see no need.
i havent seen the HDDVD, and i dont doubt the image is amazing and i'm sure the blu-ray is as well. but i just dont wanna have to start rebuying movies again, i thought i was through with that for regular dvd. lol
dont get me wrong though, i'm not saying screw high def. i already have 7 blu-ray discs and i plan to purchase all my future movies in that format if available from now on. but here in canada the average price in stores is 34$ plus tax. so i've bought them all off american sites because even with the exchange, they've all been 28$ or less. the average price of a newly released regular dvd here is 20-25 so thats a good deal.
its funny because i constantly see americans complain about blu-ray high prices and here i am saying they're cheap. but if i'm correct you guys get brand new dvds for as little as 15$ sometimes. over here, that only happens to smaller titles or the barebone version of a certain movie.
anyway yeah...i'm totally into blu-ray, got a ps3 so why not...i just dont wanna rebuy everything once again. makes my choices slim at the moment but yeah. lol
hmmm i somehow didnt notice that ad for the collector's set. so they're double dipping the original on dvd with a collector set too? i knew a double dip would come near the release of the sequel but i was hoping it might have a bunch of cool extras. i had bought that 2disc collector set that came with a comic when it first came out. and i was severly disappointed in the extras. so i was hoping the sequel would bring a better edition.
now if this new set and blu-ray DO include many more worthwhile extras then i might give in and buy it, because i'm a "bonus features" w***e.

A little tribute to heath ledger wouldnt have hurt anything, although it will make the dark knight all the harder to watch. I have to admit that Blu-ray box set looks nice. They just throw in a lot of pointless stuff. Cool yes, but who REALLY needs a little batman keychain or flashdrive?
Putting aside the fact that these discs were probably well into production before Ledger died, wouldn't any such tribute be better off on The Dark Knight DVD/BD?

no no..its a bat-chain and bat-drive

Will the blu-ray deluxe edition gift set include all of the items in the standard edition gift set, which incudes the flash drive?
I like blu ray but not enough to re-buy any movie. I have Sunshine and 2001 A Space Odyssey on blu. That's it.
The 2 disc release of Batman Begins is enough, thanks.

I gotta have the gift set! Finally, I have a legitmate reason to take the plunge into Blu-Ray!!
I gotta have the gift set. Would love to see the prologue again.
im good with the standard blu-ray verison.

Agreed. Besides it wouldn't make any sense because while it was sad he passed on, he didn't have a thing to do with Batman Begins.

Then why even post this then?

Same here
You know what, even for the standard edition it's worth it.

So where's the UK street date? Do we get a giftset? I hated the fact that this movie was an HD-DVD presentation only, so naturally I jumped for joy when that format joined VHS in the media cemetary. So now there is some glimmer of hope of this arriving on Blu-Ray, but do we get what the peeps in the U.S. get?

what are you speaking of?

It's SO beautiful! I was hoping for the teaser poster art, though, with him standing with his head down. Oh well.
The Limited Edition Blu-Ray set will be my very first Blu-Ray purchase. I can't wait...
