It was cancelled by Fox, so the makers decided to make some films, but the series will be coming back as Comedy Central have bought the rights for new episodes.
From what i've heard, the new episodes will just be the DVD movies broken down.
Love the show and can't wait for the movie.
I must admit I enjoyed Futurama and have all the season boxsets at home.
The four movies are reported to be:
Benders Big Score
The Beast with a Billion Backs
Benders Game
Into the Wild Green Yonder
These will be syndicated as 16 episodes on Comeduy Central next year.

The hope is that if these 16 episodes get good ratings (which the friggin better) then we'll get an actual new season instead of just cut up movies.
And what the hell happened to Hermes?

yay!!!!!
You gotta love a surly robot that drinks beer and smokes cigars!
Oh, yeah! Shiny metal butts Batman!, no really, will buy it, and the extras look good enough.
"Good news everyone!"
Oo look, Hermes' head is in a jar......Ooooooo

Well bite my shiny metal ass and call me Kiff! I can't wait for this release. Futurama is an underrated classic, I was really quite angry when the new episodes didn't come the nexy season. Bless Teletoon (and Comedy Central, even though I don't get it) for their syndication of the "old" episodes.
Zoidberg for life!

you know i hate dvds sometimes..lol
i want this for sure, i love the show...but we all know that when all 4 movies are finally out, they'll have a box set ..and since these are being turned into the new season, there might even be a second box since i heard that the "season version" will contain new footage to it actually works as a season and not 4 seperate stories.
so yeah....do i wait? i dont want to..but i should..but i probably wont...i hate dvds sometimes..lol

FOX acts like they have all kinds of award winning programming that they need to make room for.

Actually, Futurama won an Emmy for the episode "Roswell that ends well" in season three, if memory serves. FOX just acted like they wanted to have the Simpsons pie and let the other one die out by not publicizing it correctly. The show was awesome and deserved to go on. Now, it looks like the future is as bleak as ever with those rumors of cut-up movies before having actual seasons. Anyway I'm just glad the Futurama gang is reunited and keeps on going.
Ugh, could do without the guest appearance by Al Gore. Other than that I'm psyched about some new Futurama.
Awesome news. In any shape or form you gotta love the return of Futurama. And just the one "Everybody Loves Hypnotoad" episode is enough to psyche me up a little. Always loved Hypnotoad...
Al Gore's been on the show before (in season 4's Crimes of the Hot) and his daughter Kristen is one of the show's writers, so go figure. I can't freakin' wait for this!!!!
I'm going to pick up the movies and skip the Comedy Central airings. I hope the writers, producers, directors and actors can recapture everything that made the show so great after all these years since it's cancellation.
Just asking, still getting this, but does this mean that this is like a double dip since the movies will be recut to be episodes in the upcoming season?
I hope this show comes back for good- with simpsons, south park and futurama going strong, i won't miss the animated shows i love that will never come back, like Clone High, Venture Brothers and Undergrads
From what I understand the individual episodes won't just be cut down portions of the movies, but will also feature additional material to help them stand as seperate episodes. So yes it is a double dip, but a slightly less blatant one than it could have been.
Oh and The Venture Bros IS coming back, just not until around Feb-March next year!

I'm going to allow this.
