This has already been available on Blu Ray for a few months in the UK (released by Warner Bros). I love the film but I was disappointed that the Blu Ray disc was not released in 3-D (as I never got around to seeing the film 3-D on the big screen).
Also, I love the CGI animation but they should of simply used the "300" or "Sin City" approach of using live actors with CGI backgrounds. It seems a waste of money to "animate" Anthony Hopkins when they had access to the actual actor.

This film was the fist I ever got to see in Digital 3D and it certainly enhances the experience ten-fold. I've purchased the directors cut dvd, which is still good, but without the 3d it loses a lot of excitement.
the HD DVD is a great showcase! I will only double dip to the BD version for TruHD however if its under $24
YES!!! BLU RELEASE!!!!
Excellent features. The film wasn't bad and actually impressive but I wish it was live action. That would make it a 4 star or 5 star experience.
So the HD DVDs have just been put onto one disc? Epic fail, they could have at least optimized the movie further and left the extras on a 2nd disc.
A visually stunning film but, like most versions of this grandaddy of fantasy tales, the story really drags in parts. I know it's because it's faithful to the original source (poem), but that's exactly my point. I'm sure it was the greatest thing since stone tablets 1200 some-odd years ago, but whatever. To each their own...
I will say that the Dragon fight set piece at the end almost redeems the rest of the film. Almost.

I'm with you on this one Nevunder. Saw this in the cinemas and me and the Mrs actually walked out about 3 quarters of the way through. The story was dragging and the cinema we saw it in was projecting a really soft print of the film. It was blurry and made me want to get my eyes checked.
I rented the Blu Ray disc here in the UK and was absoulutely AMAZED at the image quality. It was completely different and this time I managed to get all the way through it. The dragon sequence at the end is VERY well done (paticularly so in Blu Ray) but it still wasn't quite enough to make me want to buy it...
Great demo quality pic and aound but weak movie...

AH JEZUS! NOT THAT @$!%ING D!(!< @$!%ED UP MOVIE. Beowulf is a !@#$%!$#$#!%^ Definitely a f**king pass!
Hm...quite a plethora of special features, and that's always fun...too bad they're wasted on an absolutely horrible movie.
For some reason, I Didn't get this one on HD DVD and have been putting of getting the UK BD as well - So I guess I'll end up getting this US BD then. Haven't seen this, but will give it a blind buy, not when it's $27 though, which is likely to be the starting price @ Amazon.
This movie was terrible. The CG was mostly disappointing, but there were a few shots that were very well done. Then again, I don't think it was the technology that was the problem with this film.
I just wanna see the extra where they scanned Anjelina Jolie's body! Drool...
so yesterday on the mtv movie awards, they blurred out her boobs for the scenes they showed...hilarious, the movie itself doesnt even have any nudity, she's covered by that gold stuff.
that was just priceless
that was just priceless
There is not a point of a 3D movie starring Jolie without 3D nudity. This was boring and needless to say the book is better.
I enjoyed it, actually. Though a bit flawed, it was the most faithful to the epic poem than any other Beowulf film adaptation.
I just gave my dad my standard DVD as I will buy this on Blu-ray for sure.

something that did impress me though, despite how grotesque and deformed grendel was....they still managed to make him look like crispin glover. i dont mean that as any sorta insult towards the actor...i mean if i didnt know he was the voice i wouldnt have noticed. but knowing it was him, i could see it, especially in his eyes.
but on the other end, robin-wright penn didnt look a thing like her...its weird cuz i recognized her in the trailers but watching the actual movie, she almost looked like a generic animated character.
anyway i'll shut up now.
