Well, this was highly anticipated......Hope this turns out stunning on Blu.
F**kiin' A! I really hope Fox continues the trend of providing region free catalogue titles, because this is one of my favourite films (and there's no sign of a UK release).
I have a feeling this will end up in the "heavily DNR'd to the point of looking awful" category along with so many catalogue titles. Let's hope Fox proves me wrong!

Indeed! This is one of those movies that, when it's announced, makes you instantly realise it's never been available on BD and wonder why it's taken so long for an absolutely bloody classic to get an upgrade.
"We really shook the pillars of heaven, didn't we, Wang?" Genius!!!

What is it with DNR this week? Is it the new buzz term?

oh and this is a definate buy for me, dont own it in any format so its a no-brainer.

So far as extended, this is the first I've ever heard of an extended cut, and this is one of my all-time favorites. I hope it's not just the deleted scenes/alternate ending reinserted; if it's actual real, never-before-seen footage I will be truly blown away.
Many thanks to Tom for posting this info, it made up my mind for me. I've known of the BTILC BD's being released in Japan, Germany, and the Netherlands for some time, and first heard of the US August release a few weeks ago, and had just planned on importing the Japanese release as I didn't want to wait until August for the US release, but this clinches it. Without knowing for sure if the imports will have the same features, I suppose I'll wait until August for the US release. I am truly psyched, though, as BTILC is probably the one of John Carpenter's catalog that I've most wanted to see released in BD.
It's funny, I certainly wouldn't say BTILC is the greatest movie ever made, but it might be my favorite movie ever made. My brother and I watched this endlessly growing up, and I probably own more memorabilia from BTILC than any other film. I just took the old 2-Disc DVD over to my best friend's a couple of weeks ago, as it's been years since he's seen it, and his 9-year-old son has never seen it. I was glad to introduce this to a new generation, and since apparently my friend's son has talked about it endlessly at home and at school! Love it.
Now we just need proper BD releases of "They Live", "Vampires", "In the Mouth of Madness", "Prince of Darkness", and I certainly wouldn't mind seeing one for "Starman", "Christine", and a proper DVD release of Carpenter/Russell's "Elvis".

I'd say... Yes.
I hadn't seen it (because I don't visit that site), but that's what I mean, what with that and people banging on about how terrible the new T2 BD is when all they've seen are static images. Don't get me wrong, I'm not for films looking waxy, but the people over at AVS put me to shame in the anal retentive stakes. Not seen the Trek BDs though, so I can't comment on those.

Couldn't they have stuck with the black embossed cover? That was smart. This DNR is becoming a real pain with blu ray i think (whats wrong with a bit of grain)?
im giving this cover A++++++++++

DNR has been a buzz term in most circles when it comes to BD transfers for a while now! It's nothing new...

Looking forward to this on day one!
"When some wild-eyed, eight-foot-tall maniac grabs your neck, taps the back of your favorite head up against the barroom wall, and he looks you crooked in the eye and he asks you if ya paid your dues, you just stare that big sucker right back in the eye, and you remember what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like that: "Have ya paid your dues, Jack?" "Yessir, the check is in the mail." - Jack Burton (Kurt Russell)

Sarcasm detector on the blink? What I meant is that lately all I seem to read is DNR this and DNR that, as if every release is plagued by it to the point of being utterly ruined. Most of the people complaining seem to be basing their opinions on static .jpegs rather than first hand experience. The T2 disc is the one that gets me at the moment. Hardly anyone had it yet, but it's already been denounced as a 'travesty', which it bloody well isn't (truth be told the image is no worse than any of the other releases, and might even be better on balance).

Why is the original poster art seemingly never good enough?
I must admit, as far as Photoshopping old images for a new cover goes, that's a pretty nice effort.
This film is rather grainy on DVD and it appears to be from the print. It'll be interesting to see how the Blu-ray has turned out.
Yup, Drew Struzan, best movie poster artist EVER!!!.
But I ave to say, this ain't a bad new one.
Definite buy. Fun movie.

For some reason I have this on DVD but never watched. Will hold out to watch for this release.
Cool cover, borderline too much going on in it.

Not of fan of the cover, but this is good news indeed.
I'd rather have In The Mouth of Madness on BD, to be honest, never been a fan of this film. But i'll probably get all the Carpenter films again once they're all released on BD i guess. Even this. It's still pretty silly though...

Be careful--this is a promise I made to myself and I even went so far as to purchase Ghost of Mars on Blu-ray.
Out of the other Carpenter films on BD, I'd have to say I was most impressed with Image's release of Assault on Precinct 13. Big Trouble in Little China is a no-brainer purchase for me, but I would have preferred Escape From New York or The Fog from Fox. Hopefully those'll be forthcoming this fall.

Yeah, i read some of the BD releases of Carpenters films aren't even in 1080p. In fact, i probably read it here...
Looking forward to this release--though, I'm not a fan of this BD artwork. The original poster art was just fine. And yes, bring on the Carpenter titles. For the Prince of Darkness BD, I hope they include John Carpenter-Peter Jason commentary from the Region 2 release. It's not in the same league as Carpenter-Kurt Russell commentaries, but it was fun to hear.

They are 1080p, but they look like they've come from SD masters. Well, Escape from New York does, and so did the unreleased They Live. Both are terrible. The Fog is okay from memory, as is Ghosts of Mars, if nothing special.

that guy in the bottom left corner. he played heaps of bad guys in the 80s... does anyone know what his name is?
Jeff Imada innit?

Jeff Imada IS in the movie (and for that matter, in Escape From LA), but the guy in question is Al Leong, who is primarily a stuntman, but also featured prominently as an actor in many films, but best known for being in Die Hard, Rapid Fire and most notably as Endo, the guy electrocuting Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon. Jeez, I need to get out more.

I hope so to, but the commentary from the region 2 They Live disc with Carpenter and Roddy Piper is a keeper--my favorite after the Carpenter/Russell tracks.

Heh, I knew our resident 80s action expert would know the answer.
