About damn time, I read an interview with ridley scott over 4 years ago which said he'd just done a commentary for Blade Runner, must be the most anticipated DVD ever!
Well, I like the film but dont love it. So I am glad that there will be a standard Two-Disc Special Edition. I'll pick that one up.
I'm really happy about this. I'll get the 4 Movie set next year.
From what I read at The Digital Bits, the 2 disc will have different bonus features than the 4 disc. I have the regular editions of Gladiator (DTS) and the extend edition, Theritical & Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven and the extended edition of Black Hawk Down. If the bonus features are "ground breaking" (their words not mine), then I might double dip, but probably not.
JoBlo had this news a couple days ago. Great news! Finally got passed those nasty rights issues. Easily in the Top Five of the most significant Sci-Fi movies every produced. The "limited" DVD release is fine but the mega box set will be the bad boy to buy. Kind of like Star Wars limited release, eventually a mega box will be released. So this release in Sept is a rental and then buy the mega box.
Catching it yet again in a theater will be awesome as well. The usual effects on a huge screen is a sight to behold. I guess it would be asking too much for an Imax or digital 70mm theatrical release but you won't get unless you ask for it.
More Human Than Human!

More Human Than Human!
Not only a well deserved 4 disc set but also it'll be in cinemas for a limited period next year as well. All together now. YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
OH YES IN 2007 THE YEAR OF THE GEEK WILL SURFICE
OH YES IN 2007 THE YEAR OF THE GEEK WILL SURFICE
This 4 disc will go nice with my 4 disc Kingdom of Heaven, Dawn of the Dead and three disc version of Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Daredevil (I have both, I made into one set) and Elektra (see other note).
Please say it will be released in the UK as well!
awesome I'm gonna get the one that has both theatrical + director's cut w/ digitality remastered and restored verison...damn its gonna take a while.
I've never seen the movie, but I can't miss out on a set like that!
Well, with the restored director's cut of this and "Superman II" coming out, I wonder if it means that finally, FINALLY, Penthouse is going to stick their head out of their derrieres and let Tinto Brass release a restored cut of "Caligula."
Ah, who am I kidding... IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!!!!!
*runs off crying into the woods*

Who cares if it's released in the UK or not? WB are famous of releasing their discs coded for regions 1-4 so they will work almost anywhere regardless of player. Only thing you need to worry about is your capacity to handle NTSC signal.
(besides, I'm Finnish)

So by that rationale we shouldn't care if it's released in Finland? I don't understand what compels people to make some of the comments on these pages.
Boy, he does like tinkering with his films doesn't he? Still, this has been a long time coming. But anyone else here reluctant to shell out on DVDs they're almost certain they'll end replacing with HD-DVDs (or more likely Blu-ray)???
I'm interested to see this "final cut" - I've honestly never been able to sit through this whole movie. I love most of Ridley's stuff - Gladiator being my favorite movie of all time - and I dig science fiction, too. Honestly, it's the soundtrack. I hate it. I can't sit through it. I'm going to give it another chance with this release, though - and if it indeed comes to theaters than I'll go see it for sure.
Never seen this.
Really want to, though. Quite a bit of hype going around with this announcement.

Very fricken funny... bought the directors cut a few days ago. If I would of known there was gonna be a remastered version, I wouldn't of bought it.
Director's Cut or Theatrical Cut, it's never made much of a difference to me as I feel about the same way about both, but I can't wait to upgrade from the grainy and blurry video on Warner's old DVD.
I can`t fricken wait.
Yes
All those old, c**ppy snapper Discs will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Rip me apart all you want, but I watched this movie for the first time last summer, and I nearly fell asleep, which is a first for me. I have never fallen asleep watching a movie, and I nearly gave up on this when I started to drift off. But I stuck through it.
Hands down, this is the most boring movie I have ever sat through.

Oh my God..... I feel like crying.... I'm so happy this is coming out
It's been on my wish list for years......
The Tinto Brass "Caligula" reference...funny yet tangentally relevent...thanks for the chuckle.
Anyways, kids..this is how this whole BR mess is going to play out and you're going to like it! The Brothers Warners' are going to roll out this "restored" facimile of a Director's Cut on dvd and its gonna be chock full of extras..enough to get everyone's BR weenie just a' twitchin'...figuring that surely if WB is gonna put out a great package on a "faux" Director's cut then surely the 4 Movie, (??) disc package is going to be sheer nirvanna...
And like a fool, you'll wait for the bigger release..... and on the release date you're probably not even going to wait till you get it home before you rip it open....only to find that the extras package to this (strangly unspecified number of discs) compliation is good..really good actually..BUT IT AINT AS GOOD AS THE EXTRAS THAT CAME WITH THAT SEP 06 RELEASE....And then you're really gonna want to run into traffic once you realize that the great package you were stupid enough to thumb your nose at back in September is now impossible to buy thru legitimate channels due to the moratorium and you're gonna find yourself trolling thru Ebay like a crack addict trying to get your hands on a copy of the that damn 2006 release...
The interplay between the "have's" and "have nots" of the 2006 release will serve as an interesting case study in microeconomics for years to come.
Don't say I didn't warn you....

Blade runner
Warner Home Video Spain has announced yesterday an Agoust 2007 date to release the Blade Runner: Final Cut, here in Spain (R2), so I suppose the release in UK or USA will be at the same time, or perhaps a few weeks earlier.
Can't wait to see it on the big screen and to get the 4 disc set!
ridley scott has done a commentary for blade runner but it hasnt been released? what the??? does that mean that there are other commentaries recorded out there that haven't been released?
cassandra crossing - by george. p. cosmatos??? anyone??? before he passed away?
or perhaps jerry goldsmith on any of the rambo films????
i guess i'm just asking questions which I know no one has answers to.

No!
That's not what I meant at all!
I meant that if it's released in US only, it doesn't matter since Warner will code it for regions through 1-4. What, doesn't anyone else buy their movies from US webstores? (besides, I certainly don't care if it's not released in UK since I'm not there to see it)
Now, unless by "release", dvdlover meant theatrical distribution, in which case it DOES matter.
dbduece has a point too, I'll probably get the 2-disc set and see myself.

I want to make sure I understand...there's going to be 3 release of this film on DVD in the next year?
1 - Restored and Remastered DVD version (Director's Cut)
2 - The Final Cut (25th anniversary edition)
3 - Multi-disc Special Edition (3 version of the film)
