Looks like it. I'll be holding out for the multi-disc special edition.
No extras now is a HUGE disapointment. IF this is $14.99 I may pick this up. But this is one of my favorite films even though it isn't the version I prefer.
At least this debunks the Anniversary Cut of BR that's supposed to be due in theaters next year. {?}
final cut...hopefully it will be enough because whats the point of having the other verison? Why are they releasing 3 verisons within like one year? anyways ill get the one that has a cardboard slide like gladiator extended edition.
Great movie...very well done. I want this.
Pretty sure no one's mentioned this, but I think they've made an arse of the text on the back cover - "Most intriguing of all is a newly included unicorn vision that suggests Deckard may be a humanoid"...surely they mean replicant?!?! or even "may not be a humanoid"
Of course, alluding at all to one of the big twists included in the Director's Cut means that someone should be shot...especially since one of our very own reviewers hasn't even seen it yet (shame on you Dustin, shame...)

Unless you absolutely have to have this version, it's best to wait for the deluxe edition. No extras, No Scott commentary, No sale
So I guess I may pick it up. Or wait until one of the other sets hits and makes one of the newer releases a bit cheaper. I always liked this flick, but I never went ga-ga over it. I don't have it, so I will add it eventually.
I have to say I have never seen this film. I will deifnately be picking this dvd up though. Sounds awesome.
I'll hold out for the 4 version release. I cait wait for that.
It is very likely that Warner will announce an HD-DVD version... Thats what I'm waiting for
Trailers would definitely be nice.
Still amazes me the slack some get with multiple releases of films and others get cooked.
The big reason for picking up this edition over the one that has been available for years is because they have remastered the film, which now looks amazing. The older disc is basically just a port of the print used for the laserdisc edition of the film, which didn't come from the cleanest print around. The new print from which this will be taken is virtually flawless and the best the film has ever looked. Go ahead and wait a whole year to fully enjoy the film when the deluxe set comes out, I'm sure it'll be great and I plan on gettng it too in one form or another, but I'm gonna plunk down what'll probably amount to a whole $10 here in a couple of months and enjoy the movie without the wait.
With the cash cow scheme, they could afford to at least put the film's trailers on as some sort of bonus.
I thought originally the ultra super doom edition was:
Final Cut, US Theatrical, Expanded International and NO director's cut (I saw the word "moratorium" thrown around in reference to the 92 DC a lot)--thus this re-release is to put out a decent transfer of the DC if anyone really wants the DC...
But if the DC is gonna be on the ultra super doom edition...then what IS the point?

Exactly my sentiments. Bide your time, and wait for the feature-packed editions. I still haven't sat down and enjoyed this film (in either cut), but a friend of mine is a big fan. I bought him the big collector's set with the script, booklets, and such some years ago. He'll be digging into the big set next year, I'm sure.

The Digital Bits have been reporting no extra material will be on the single disc release.
I'll wait for the 3 disc
Most of you pretty much give a damn about the artwork but I strongly hope that the multidisc pack wich I'm about to get for sure will be way better. it's so simple, I dunno... I mean I wouldn't mind if it passed me by, it aint anything mindblowing.
I've been putting off the purchase since 1999. I can wait a little longer for a solid version to come out.
It looks like there won't be any extras then!!!!
And couldn't they at least gave the DVD a different title!!! It's the exact same!!! People are going to get confused and buy the old one!!
And why do the US get it a month earlier???

Good... this makes my decision to wait for the Big release next year much easier to stomach.
This just looks like a rid yourself of the snapper case upgrade with a shiny new transfer. I take it that is exactly what it is?
The cover art for the DC looks very nice. But whatever happened to the extras?
Wow, they went all out with that redesign...
Artwork now added...
Besides, Warner included DTS on the Batman movies too so this could be a turn for the better.

I'm glad the theatrical relase will finally be on DVD, That is the version I am used to and love. I personally love the voice overs. I think the film moves very slow and is very confusing for first time veiwers without the voiceovers. I have the 1992 DVD release but only watched it once since it doesn't have the voice overs I like. Glad to get ALL versions next year. They did and AWESOME job on Legend, another amazing film Ridley Scott. Ridley is one of the most underated not so famous directers in the world. He does brillliant movies.
Awsome News!!
This is great news. This Special Edition for Blade Runner was beginning to look like Duke Nuke Em for the PC. I remember signing a petition like 5 years ago for getting a SE released. That thing must be dusty and have like 1.5 million votes by now. Not sure why it took so long but I guess some things are best left unexplained. I am just glad its finally coming around. I will definitly pick up all available versions as this is by far one of my favorite Sci-Fi movies.

I'm not at all a fan of these cash cowing schemes..
Can't they do it right the first time? Of course! But it wouldn't be nearly as profitable. That said, I'm glad I witheld from buying the c**ppy DC release and absolutely can't wait for the 3-4 disc SE..or the(one disc?) HD/Blueray SE.
It's a great movie that deserves the best possible treatment.

So exactly how many versions are there of the freakin' film?
Saw the Director's cut when it was released theatrically back in '92. Scott's visuals were even more stunning and atmospheric on the big screen. Recommended.
Well I'll be buying both versions. Its my favourite film of all time. Moody, beautifully shot and with a great storyline about humanity, slavery, love and redemption. I hope the new theatrical cut gets released outside the U.S. as I've never seen the film on a cinema screen and I'd love to. Roll on September
It says that the final cut will be in major US cities, but could some Canadian cities see it in theatres. Hopefully it'll play somewhere here in Vancouver, and I think it would be awesome if they could release it in IMAX.
It will contain BOTH theatrical versions, US and international.
Released theatrically? Let's hope it arrives here!
The set will include (so far)
1. The 1982 THEATRICAL CUT-INTERNATIONAL VERSION (has a few seconds more violence)
2. The 1992 'Directors Cut' (Whats the point?-I dont get it)
3. The 2005 Restored Cut-supposedly the REAL Directors Cut
Too bad they dont include the infamous WORKPRINT, which has only been seen in LA and Seattle (I was there-no warning, no word of mouth-a total surpise-I almost fainted-it was a 70mm print accidently sent from Warners vault. Damn-that was a night to remember-like seeing the Holy Grail!

It is kind of confusing. I for one am definately getting the 4 disc set with all the cuts of the film.

Blade Runner is my favorite film and I will be getting both DVDs. I hope Paul M. Sammon (writer fo Future Noir: The Making Of Blade Runner) gets asked to do a commentary tarck for next years's DVD.
Going to be an awesome set,be great to see the original version again with the voiceover, warners is really going to town with versions to please all the fans somebody should take notice mr lucas.
My guesses are 1st disc original cut will have branched footage of the extended european release,2nd disc the directors cut disc 3 the 2007 final cut and finally disc 4 all the extra material.
And not forgetting this is getting a simultaneous HD/BLU RAY release so no double dipping at a later date, only thing more to ask for is there going to be any DTS soundtrack ?

Buy it and then sell it later on e-bay
Am I the only one who just doesn't get what's all the Blade Runner fuss about?
I'm a bit confused now. Is the new cut not going to be available on DVD, only in select theaters?
I wonder if they might use some of the "seamless branching" to keep the disc count down.
I will get this only if they clean up the print - my copy is hopless! Great movie but...

I love this film so much but I'll wait for the box set of each version.

No!
That's not what I meant at all!
I meant that if it's released in US only, it doesn't matter since Warner will code it for regions through 1-4. What, doesn't anyone else buy their movies from US webstores? (besides, I certainly don't care if it's not released in UK since I'm not there to see it)
Now, unless by "release", dvdlover meant theatrical distribution, in which case it DOES matter.
dbduece has a point too, I'll probably get the 2-disc set and see myself.

ridley scott has done a commentary for blade runner but it hasnt been released? what the??? does that mean that there are other commentaries recorded out there that haven't been released?

Blade runner
Warner Home Video Spain has announced yesterday an Agoust 2007 date to release the Blade Runner: Final Cut, here in Spain (R2), so I suppose the release in UK or USA will be at the same time, or perhaps a few weeks earlier.
The Tinto Brass "Caligula" reference...funny yet tangentally relevent...thanks for the chuckle.
Anyways, kids..this is how this whole BR mess is going to play out and you're going to like it! The Brothers Warners' are going to roll out this "restored" facimile of a Director's Cut on dvd and its gonna be chock full of extras..enough to get everyone's BR weenie just a' twitchin'...figuring that surely if WB is gonna put out a great package on a "faux" Director's cut then surely the 4 Movie, (??) disc package is going to be sheer nirvanna...
And like a fool, you'll wait for the bigger release..... and on the release date you're probably not even going to wait till you get it home before you rip it open....only to find that the extras package to this (strangly unspecified number of discs) compliation is good..really good actually..BUT IT AINT AS GOOD AS THE EXTRAS THAT CAME WITH THAT SEP 06 RELEASE....And then you're really gonna want to run into traffic once you realize that the great package you were stupid enough to thumb your nose at back in September is now impossible to buy thru legitimate channels due to the moratorium and you're gonna find yourself trolling thru Ebay like a crack addict trying to get your hands on a copy of the that damn 2006 release...
The interplay between the "have's" and "have nots" of the 2006 release will serve as an interesting case study in microeconomics for years to come.
Don't say I didn't warn you....

Oh my God..... I feel like crying.... I'm so happy this is coming out
It's been on my wish list for years......
Rip me apart all you want, but I watched this movie for the first time last summer, and I nearly fell asleep, which is a first for me. I have never fallen asleep watching a movie, and I nearly gave up on this when I started to drift off. But I stuck through it.
Hands down, this is the most boring movie I have ever sat through.
Hands down, this is the most boring movie I have ever sat through.
All those old, c**ppy snapper Discs will be lost in time, like tears in rain.
Yes
I can`t fricken wait.
Director's Cut or Theatrical Cut, it's never made much of a difference to me as I feel about the same way about both, but I can't wait to upgrade from the grainy and blurry video on Warner's old DVD.
Very fricken funny... bought the directors cut a few days ago. If I would of known there was gonna be a remastered version, I wouldn't of bought it.
Never seen this.
Really want to, though. Quite a bit of hype going around with this announcement.
Really want to, though. Quite a bit of hype going around with this announcement.
I'm interested to see this "final cut" - I've honestly never been able to sit through this whole movie. I love most of Ridley's stuff - Gladiator being my favorite movie of all time - and I dig science fiction, too. Honestly, it's the soundtrack. I hate it. I can't sit through it. I'm going to give it another chance with this release, though - and if it indeed comes to theaters than I'll go see it for sure.
Boy, he does like tinkering with his films doesn't he? Still, this has been a long time coming. But anyone else here reluctant to shell out on DVDs they're almost certain they'll end replacing with HD-DVDs (or more likely Blu-ray)???
So by that rationale we shouldn't care if it's released in Finland? I don't understand what compels people to make some of the comments on these pages.
Who cares if it's released in the UK or not? WB are famous of releasing their discs coded for regions 1-4 so they will work almost anywhere regardless of player. Only thing you need to worry about is your capacity to handle NTSC signal.
(besides, I'm Finnish)

Well, with the restored director's cut of this and "Superman II" coming out, I wonder if it means that finally, FINALLY, Penthouse is going to stick their head out of their derrieres and let Tinto Brass release a restored cut of "Caligula."
Ah, who am I kidding... IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!!!!!
*runs off crying into the woods*
Ah, who am I kidding... IT'S JUST NOT FAIR!!!!!
*runs off crying into the woods*
I've never seen the movie, but I can't miss out on a set like that!
awesome I'm gonna get the one that has both theatrical + director's cut w/ digitality remastered and restored verison...damn its gonna take a while.
Please say it will be released in the UK as well!
This 4 disc will go nice with my 4 disc Kingdom of Heaven, Dawn of the Dead and three disc version of Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, Daredevil (I have both, I made into one set) and Elektra (see other note).
Not only a well deserved 4 disc set but also it'll be in cinemas for a limited period next year as well. All together now. YYYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!
OH YES IN 2007 THE YEAR OF THE GEEK WILL SURFICE
OH YES IN 2007 THE YEAR OF THE GEEK WILL SURFICE
JoBlo had this news a couple days ago. Great news! Finally got passed those nasty rights issues. Easily in the Top Five of the most significant Sci-Fi movies every produced. The "limited" DVD release is fine but the mega box set will be the bad boy to buy. Kind of like Star Wars limited release, eventually a mega box will be released. So this release in Sept is a rental and then buy the mega box.
Catching it yet again in a theater will be awesome as well. The usual effects on a huge screen is a sight to behold. I guess it would be asking too much for an Imax or digital 70mm theatrical release but you won't get unless you ask for it.
More Human Than Human!

From what I read at The Digital Bits, the 2 disc will have different bonus features than the 4 disc. I have the regular editions of Gladiator (DTS) and the extend edition, Theritical & Director's Cut of Kingdom of Heaven and the extended edition of Black Hawk Down. If the bonus features are "ground breaking" (their words not mine), then I might double dip, but probably not.
I'm really happy about this. I'll get the 4 Movie set next year.
Well, I like the film but dont love it. So I am glad that there will be a standard Two-Disc Special Edition. I'll pick that one up.
About damn time, I read an interview with ridley scott over 4 years ago which said he'd just done a commentary for Blade Runner, must be the most anticipated DVD ever!
whats the point? wait for the big dvd next year
