Blue Underground on Blu-ray (US - BD RA)
Blue Underground has announced what titles they'll be initially bringing to Blu-ray
Following up on their announcement made back in March of this year, Blue Underground has officially announced the release of several titles on Blu-ray disc. No firm release dates have been made just yet, but titles you can expect in the upcoming months include The Final Countdown, Dead & Buried, The Bird With The Crystal Plumage, The Stendhal Syndrome, Maniac, Vigilante, Fire & Ice, Two Evil Eyes, and Uncle Sam. Specs on each extras loaded, 50GB disc will include full 1080p HD resolution, 7.1 DTS-HD and 7.1 Dolby TrueHD audio, and, on select titles, D-Box Motion Code. Attached is the artwork for several of the titles. Stay tuned for more info as we receive it, and until then be sure to check out Blue Underground's Blu-ray page for a nifty promotional video too.

The Final Countdown for me...

Looks like more review material for Gabe there!
Nothing interests me but it's good to see they're giving us lossless audio and BD50s.
They'd have to clean up Fire and Ice a bit for it to look half decent on BD.
Bird with the Crystal Plumage is a "must-buy", with Maniac, Vigilante & The Stendhal Syndrome up for "serious consideration".
Now, if only someone could properly crack the coding issue...

Damn, I want all of those. Excitement! Do they still own Suspiria?
Keep your fingers crossed that those Weinstein bozos don't screw up the chance for a Suspiria BD release, Gabe, 'cause Lustig doesn't have the rights anymore.

I'm assuming you're talking region coding guys--I would think that these discs will be region free considering that Blue Underground's DVDs have been region 0 in the past.
Personally I'd like the see The Crazies and Shock Waves both released to go along with the what will be instant purchases for me in The Final Countdown and Dead & Buried.

I don't see The Crazies looking very good in 1080p, but I could be wrong. And they'd really have to clean up Dead and Buried, that is a dirty print.
I totally forgot the asshole Weinstein Brothers have Suspiria. I'm never going to see a BR release.

The Shock Waves dvd used the director's own private print for the transfer because the negative was apparently lost, so I can't imagine a Blu-Ray improving the sub-par image. I love that movie, but I wish it looked better.

was really hoping for The Prowler (Rosemary's Killer) but not in the 1st batch, hopefully it does get a blu-ray release tho.
Both The Crazies and Shock Waves are from a film source though--as are all of the films listed above--so as long as they are encoded properly they're going to be closer looking to the actual film source and better than an MPEG2 DVD transfer...that is unless they pull an Anchor Bay and digitally scrub the image so much that it loses detail like they did with Halloween--most disappointing title in my hi-def collection.
Cant wait for Vigilante and Maniac.

Yeah, I never got any of those early AB BR because I was affraid of something like that. I have no doubt that The Crazies will be crystal clear, I'm just scared that crystal clear will make it look cheap and flat. A lot of those AB and BU DVD remasters are already kind of lightened up and needlessly slick. I'm all for these movies looking as much like they did the first time they were ever shown on the big screen, basically.

No Mountain of the Cannibal God or Fight For Your Life, no sale.....
I might buy a few.
This is very exciting new :-)
Anyone notice that most titles claim a 7.1 track but really it is only 5.1? I have really been noticing this. In fact, Crank was true 7.1 but other than that i havent seen any. Even Rambo was only 5.1 although my system mocks it to 7.1.

Rambo includes a DTS-HD MA 7.1 track and a 5.1 Dolby EX track--so maybe rather than the audio being incorrectly listed on all of these discs it's actually your audio setup that isn't able to decode the higher resolution audio tracks.

I have Dawn of the Dead too, but it doesn't seem to suffer the same problems to quite the degree that Halloween does on BD. It also doesn't help that AB used the latest master of Halloween for their BD release--i.e. the one not approved by Dean Cundey.
My main concern about the Halloween disc is that there seems to be a trend with hi-def titles in digitally re-mastering films and removing grain and other anomalies caused by film stock to the point that they change the intended look of the film and lose sharpness as a result. Sony's Close Encounters luckily didn't suffer these problems and should be the benchmark for how to bring these older films to Blu-ray disc. That movie looks like film when you watch the disc--as if you're watching a virgin reel of it.

There are a few companies out there "chipping" BD players for region free capabiliity....
I will just wait for one that is a software bypass...

Why put DTS-MA on and DolbyDigitial TrueHD? If they're both lossless, why bother?
