Man I never knew so many people hated on the boondock saints! This movie has been a St. Patrick's day tradition for me and my friends for the last 3 years. My only argument is that if anyone is citing the fact that the McManus brothers kill in the name of god as sacreligious, you are taking the movie too seriously. This film is just a fun vision of vigilante justice that people should watch while drinking green beer every march.
all of you think you are elite movie critics. Can you not accept that people may like the movie for what it is, a great shoot-em-up movie? And it is exactly that, and for those of you who think it is your right to bash a movie over and over again have insecurities and probably should keep your commets to yourself.
The only way I will buy this movie is if it is in DTS Surround just like the region 3 version I hate dolby digital it sounds like c**p. I dont know why they put out so many good movies with no DTS but that c**py dolby digital is on every one. this movie would be bad ass in DTS
I'm one of the people who thoroughly enjoyed this flick. I may pick this up, but I'm not a huge fan of double dipping.

Wow, that's actually kind of sad. I'll make sure to never take your opinion on movies seriously. Ever.

Finally an anamorphic widescreen transfer!!!!!!!!!
The unrated cut has been available in other countries for awhile now. I downloaded it to see the difference and honestly, unless they've added a bunch, there's was only about seven extra seconds.
1. When the boys fall through air-duct and are caught up in the "stupid f--king rope", when they shoot everyone in the room, it's a pretty bloody scene. Not huge but definately more gore than the original.
2. When "Rocko" walks into the diner and talks to the two guys who "knew about the..." and are shot, you see Funny Man actually shoot them in the heads instead instead of hearing the sound and seeing the aftermath.
I guess when it was released, they had to cut these two scenes down the garner an "R" rating. Then due to the "trench-coat" mafia or whatever they were called at Columbine and with the shootings, it was decided to be released on Video and on theatrical cut. It was too risky.
However the unrated version isn't really that big of a deal if that's all they've really added back in. I guess it'll be good for "completists" but just not worth it. If you own the $8 version, you're totally fine.
And yes, because of Troy's questionable attitude around Hollywood, I've heard through the rumor mill that the Weinstein's and Troy don't get along and that being they own the rights to this film, they won't budge on allowing the sequel "Boondock 2: All Saint's Day" to be filmed. At one point, they had the cast and script all lined up but I doubt we'll ever see this one. Which is too bad because despite all the negative comments I've read, I really enjoyed this movie a lot and have heard nothing but good things from all of my friends. Definately rent it though if you haven't seen it yet...

Never seen it as I have been waiting for an uncut version.
Seems to be a love or hate it thing.

I loved this movie and I will be buying the DVD for sure.
Overnight is a POS 'documentary' that seemed to be very bias. I didn't buy what they were selling.

And even if you guys do hate this film, you at least have to admit you have thrown your arms in the air and shouted "THERE WAS A FIRE FIGHT!!!!"I don't, because I didn't, and I'm not buying this. Everyone seemed to think it was cool, I thought it was one of those movies that seemed to THINK it was really cool, but really just had all this surface c**p and generally wasn't all that great. Troy Duffy is a stuck-up, pretentious, narcissistic asshole.

Nice cover, but I still don't get all the praise for Boondock Saints (haven't seen it yet, but I might have to give it a go to see if it is good or bad).

Thanks for coming out though...
How come ever since the site changed to "active" instead of "answers" there have been so many more rude people?

this movie was okay, but I was all hyped up and when I finally viewed it, it was a pretty average film.

Boondock Saints and OVERNIGHT
The "director's cut" won't be any better than the original. This guy's time has passed him by. All that Tarantino copycat stuff was big in '97, but today it doesn't work. Tarantino moves on, but his copycats do not. And Duffy has some real mental problems. I do encourage everyone here to rent the documentary about the film called "Overnight." It was a movie they made during the making of BS. Duffy, sure he would be immortalized as the next big Hollywood genius, hired the guys, friends of his, to make the film. They just let the cameras roll on some of the most insane stuff you've ever seen. Then when Duffy tried to screw the guys and not pay them, they put this together and sold it. It's one of the best "making of" docs ever made. Whether you liked the film or not, you really must see this documentary. It's jaw-dropping. A cautionary tale. How to blow your one big chance in Hollywood.
I personally like this movie and I can see most people not liking it. There has been some many times where I was close to buying the original cut, but I think I might wait for this. Though I don't like the cover art all to much, it looks to hollywood, I like the other cover better haha
Boondock Saints was, at best, a derivative B movie by a guy who had exactly one movie in him and that was it. He will never get another movie made. See "Overnight." Troy Duffy is an idiot. An arrogant drunken fool who thought he was the greatest thing that ever hit Hollywood. When Hollywood hit back, he just evaporated. He's back in the sticks where he belongs. That sequel has been "announced" now since 1998. It ain't happenin'.

This movie kicks butt. I might pick this up. I wonder if the deleted scenes are any diffrent than the ones that were on the original release?

If Troy Duffy gets to make another film I will commit sucide.

There is supposed to be a sequel coming out this year. Look it up before you act like a smartass. It was listed on the IMDb for a while, but it's not anymore for some reason, and I read an article that mentioned it in Entertainment Weekly while I was at work once.
