You make a G-rated movie that is 2hrs long you are going to loose half the audience if there isn't a lot of fireworks. Disney/Pixar need to scale back down to the Toy Story/2 running times. Amazing those stories are their most beloved and they are 90mins or less.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and Mary Poppins are two of the most loved children's films ever, and they both push 3 hours. Don't insult kids by telling them that they can't handle big numbers like 2 or 3. For crying out loud, most kids sit in front of the same computer game trying to get the same character to do the same thing for 5 or 6 hours at a time.
As long as the film is engaging and just plain good, the running time isn't an issue.

to all those that are saying that they do not like the film cars and that it does not meet their expectations, need you need reminding that this is a CHILD'S film and it does not matter whether you can relate to the cars. the idea is to make I film that children will like and enjoy and is not full of volience as so many flims are.
You know. I'm really impressed that there is finally a Cars DVD, but I'm really depressed that there's not a 2-Disc DVD. I hope they schedule a 2-Disc DVD for Cars. You know. All Pixar films are on 2-discs. Actually, this isn't the first time a Pixar movie has been released on a 1-Disc DVD. Remember, when Disney had a gold collection? The "Toy Story" films were on a one-disc DVD, but now, no more 1-Disc DVDs for the "Toy Story" films.
WHEN'S NOVEMBER 7TH? I WANT IT TO BE NOVEMBER 7TH NOW!!!!! I'm serious. I'm dying to get it, but I'll probably get it early, b/c a video store has DVDs on sale and on rent early. It might have Cars early.

It's not like any other DISNEY movie because it ISN'T Disney, it's PIXAR. Disney is the distributer & marketer of the film and nothing to do with the creating of the movie.
well, it is DISNEY to me, so i'll stick with that!

I loved this one as well, it's the best animated film of 2006 so far. I'll be getting this, but I hope they change their mind and release a two-disc edition like they always have.
This was a really great movie! FANTASTIC! I love movies without the sex and violence we see so much of now. We'll be buying this one as soon as it's released!
I thought it was fantastic! I took my four year old to see it(his second theatre movie) and he absolutely loved it. When I saw the running time on it, I got scared, but to my suprise, we were both entertained through the whole thing, even through the extras at the end. Unlike some of the other comments made, I thought it was way better than the incredibles, but I liked that movie too. A definite add to our collection.
Disappointing artwork and under-extra'd. Deleted scenes should be interesting, but otherwise I'm hoping for more.
The biggest problem with the film itself is that it's actually far more grown-up and risk-taking than people give it credit for. It's not really for kids. Don't believe me? See the not-all-glowing-but-fascinated review:

WHy would they release another version of the film 6 weeks after the first? Aint ever gonna happen. I doubt we will ever see a 2 disc version of this film, maybe a 10 years anniversary edition.

LOL...they come to me already loaded
I think it is a good thing for us adults in the audience to have some more meat on there. But in the case of Cars, I think they spread it out 2hrs when it could have easily been 90mins. Take Nemo, it was only 10mins shorter than Cars, but, it never felt long. It was a really good story. I think they are just doing 2hr flicks for the sake of having more "stuff" in there.

Quite honestly, I like the trend to slightly longer kids movies. Some of the kids movies are so short they feel really rushed.

Favorite Pixar movies are Toy Story 2 , Monsters inc. and The Incredibles.
This one was the worst of them all.
A Michael J. Fox's Doc Hollywood remake. If all they could come up to was that pfffffffff boring Pixar flik.

You have ever taken a class of under 10yr old kids to a movie that is 2hrs long? The first 70 minutes they are zoned in, the next 20 minutes their are fading in and out. Anything past the 90 minute mark, they are making up excuses to go to the bathroom or the popcorn/candy fight has ensued.
Yeah, I agree with Adrian, it must be the kids. I've been taking my own live-in rugrat Chase, who is currently six, to movies since he was two, and his behavior during any particular movie has had little to do with the length of it, but rather its quality and how it grabs his attention. Most kids I know will sit completely through a three-hour long movie as long as it entertains them along the way, and I've found it amazing how the size of Chase's bladder is inversely affected by how much he likes a movie.

GREAT artwork, I love it, can't wait til Nov 7th, single disc, oh well, I'm still getting it.
fantastic movie....I will finally get to see the last 25 minutes. Missed it at the theatre due to my youngest son's 3 year old bladder, we spent it in the car.

I dont like the artbox, maybe I would like it in a future or when I see it! not an afficial purchase, was a bit disappointed for Pixar.
I don't get why everybody likes Finding Nemo so much...Cars was way better, and I thought that I would hate it.
I loved the movie. But no second disc makes this a wait for the SE. I love all of Pixar's movies and not giving all their films a 2 disc treatment should be illegal. They need to have one disc just for the film so it can breath with the best picture and sound using the highest bitrate possible. Disney's probably think that now they own Pixar they can give their movies a half- ass job because Pixar wouldn't complain about it, but the fans will and as I said I'm boycotting it until a 2 disc set is released. Probably just in time for the new film.
whats wrong with Larry....?? thats funny....I dont care who you are...
If you notice, I thought Cars was the second best Pixar film. The first best was Finding Nemo.
AWESOME ARTWORK!!! DEFINITELY A MUST-BUY!
...At the top, is it supposed to be night or day?
Make up your mind Pixar, or my suspension of disbelief for this film about automobiles operating mutiple devices which require fingers will be shattered.

maybe pixar did not plan a 2-disc set because it was going to be their last movie with disney (either that or studios are sure that people are going to get every edition they release)
I thought this was a little long, even though it did help the small-town feel. Either way, I'm not a big fan of those driving montage scenes.
And Incredibles was great, I don't ever remember feeling bored by that movie.

This one needs to be a 2-disc edition, every big Disney movie should have a 2-disc version, now if they wanna do seperate releases day and date, go for it, but don't screw us on this one Disney. I liked this movie and I think the artwork is pretty cool, I would have preferred the poster art with all the characters on it, but it's still nice. Could be worse, way worse!!!
"From the Creators of The Incredibles and Finding Nemo"

Stupid Disney, I bet Pirates 2 will be a 1-disc too.

Oh my! What nice art! Even though it's destined to become the retarded brother of the Pixar family that no one talks about.
Disappointing cover. I want to see the movie though, just not sure I want to see it in theatres.
This is the first Pixar film that I'm not really sure I'm gonna get on DVD...I was kinda diappointed with the plot, but it was amazing visually.
no two-disk awww

Sorry, but Steve Jobs sold PIXAR to Disney a couple months ago. He is rolling in the 65 billion dollars he got. LOL He could care less if CARS gets a 2 disc edition. But I would think since this was John Lasseters first movie since Toy Story he would have gone all out on the DVD. Guess the fans get short changed in the end.

Most memorable part for me was the end credits spoofing the previous Pixar films, but this was still a good movie.

Ant Bully just came out last weekend, only one week so far, but the trailers just didn't interest me, don't like the style of animation or character designs.
Cars so completely overpowered Hedge to me. Hedge never got past the "celebrity" voice thing, while Cars did. I just didn't enjoy Hedge as much as Cars. But I did really like the squirrel with the cola episode at the end of Hedge.

Heard both good and bad things about this one. Have all the other Pixar films so I probably will pick this one up.
Single disc? ohhh man... Mickey is going to double dip us, prob at Christmas or when Ratat-whatever comes out.

Didn't see it, seemed very juvenile to me. I mean, I just don't see myself being entertained by talking cars. Usually animation films don't center around inanimate objects. I think it's easier to process a talking animal than it is a car, you know what I mean? Sure Toy Story were inanimate objects, but they had human qualities that were relatable. I just don't see it natural to slap on facial features on something that doesn't have them in the first place is all. Good for kids, not for me.
Really liked this one, but not Pixar`s best one. Will be getting it for sure, but was hoping for a 2 disc set. REally hope it`s still gonna happen...
I can see anything from Pixar. I definitely saw Cars. I saw it twice, and I can't wait for it to come out on DVD. Must-buy.
I believe a 2 disc set will more than likely happen....just wait...
I hated this movie. It was boring and burdened with the most immature humor to date for a Pixar film. Had Dreamworks released this same film, I doubt anyone would have loved it so much.
This movie was way too long!! I took my godson for his first trip to the movies. Halfway thru, I was hoping he would have a fit so we could leave. I was extremely bored unlike with the rest of the Pixar movies.
I'll wait for this. Was a $63m opening weekend not enough to warrant a 2-disc set?
"Ratatoullie" is on my list for next year.
"Ratatoullie" is on my list for next year.
Well i'm shocked that a single disc is all we get for now...I actually liked this movie and thought it was better than the incredibles!
This movie was too long, for kids, and surprisingly short on action, and very "chatty". Kids just don't sit still long enough for this kind of stuff. Visually it was a great achievement, but definately one of the weaker titles to come out of Pixar. And when your main audience is children, these things need to be accounted for. I love animation, but heading into the film, I knew the running time would be a problem, and it was. I will Netflix this title for sure, and whats the deal with a 30 dollar price tag?

I also did not see Cars in the theater. I decided to wait for the DVD. I am pretty sure that a 2-disc collectors edition will be forthcoming. Buena Vista just wanted to get this out for the holidays so that they can put the numbers on this years books. Most likely see the 2-disc'r sometime in March '07.
GREAT movie, GREAT animation. Like said before, not as good as my favorite PIXAR film INCREDIBLES. I'll be adding it to my collection. Very disapointed in the single disc release. Every other PIXAR films is a 2 disc set. Not sure why they are doing this.
I would have liked a documentary on the research they did about route 66 and all the cars they looked at to get to the designs in the films. The ART OF CARS books makes it seem like there is tons of stuff of the pre production of this film.

I never saw "Cars". But I will. I love Disney/Pixar movies. But hold on, this is a standard single disc DVD release. That is actually quite shocking. Disney/Pixar awlays release massive 2-Disc Collector's Editions of their films. I was expecting nothing less with this film. That is very dissapointing. Its the second higest grossing film of the year, give it the DVD release it deserves. The same goes for Fox's "X-Men: The Last Stand" DVD. They better not jip us on the release of "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" so help me.

I was not as impressed with this movie as all the other Pixar releases, but it seems like this fim is one of those flicks that may improve with future viewings. Visually it was nice, the voices were good, story was good, I liked it, but it did not hit all the marks for some reason. The only thing I did not like in the entire film was the line "Get 'er done" bing shoved in there. A definate purchase, but I would like a 2-disk release like all the other Pixar DVDs I have.
Missed at the theaters but I'll blind buy as I love all things Pixar.
Disappointing extras. All the other Pixar releases have been 2 disc editions with much more special features.
I saw it and was disappointed. I'll give it another try on DVD, but I won't be going all out on this except to add to my kid's collection.
such a great film! not as good as the incredibles though, but the animation is spectacular.
