It's live-action, and a terrible movie at that...
It's Digital Backlot, right? Like Sin City and Sky Captain...
Ugh, a director's cut? The damn things already an hour too long.
Utter nonsense. Great looking nonsense though.
The Blurb On The Package Says: Better than both Matrix sequels put together.
BWA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!
Sorry...sorry...I just thought that was too damn funny!
Wait...you mean it's implying that the Matrix sequels were....GOOD?
...Dear...GOD!

Oh look, another Matrix bashing post. Don't see many of them. Casshern bored me to tears. You just know Paul Ross wrote that so he'd sound credible. Bloke is an absolute arse. I'm surprised he didn't call it 'fang-tastic' as that seems to be his stock quote for every other movie. Do Americans even know who he is?
Can't say that I know who Paul Ross is, sorry.
I right there with ya, Gabe. WAAAAAAY too long. I didn't have trouble understanding it like some reviewers said (although there were some holes which perhaps this will fill in) but I did get tired of it quick. Maybe this new version is worth a look though....that's a big maybe.

Paul Ross is an idiot. This movie wasn't even half as good as the worst Matrix sequel.
I don't know what you are all talking about, I thought this movie ruled. The music, effects, action, acting were all top notch. I already have the R2 3 disc Ultimate Edition but I think I may double dip since none of the extras are subtitled.
Oh yeah, and the Matrix sucked beyond part 1, which itself was just an OK film.

You''re banned
I much i enjoy Asian cinema, that movie bored me to death...
If the director's cut is an hour shorter and well-edited, it ought to be passable. As a two-hours, twenty-mins movie, it's head-bangingly overblown.
This film is unforgivably bad. There's only one version listed on IMDb, so I'd imagine this 'Director's Cut' is simply the version released everywhere else.
Like others, i found it a bit too long, a bit too confusing and a bit too much fluff (it's a henshin movie, i want to see more over the top fights) but damn was it pretty to look at.
I already got the R3 3 disc special edition, that'll do me fine.

I was somewhat curious about this movie... Is it really THAT bad? Even so, I can be quite indulgent towards bad movies, as long as they are fun enough, but you seem to be implying this is pretty boring to boot.
By the by, MATRIX sequels are fascinating, gorgeous-looking messes, but the first instalment has to be one of the most-perfect-movies-ever. Period.

Great artwork( minus the quote that is), but to bad the film is as boring as films get.
Saw this at the cinema at the International Film Festival Rotterdam, at one of the biggest venues with the absolute best sound, and had a blast: I've never seen an audience get so divided as over this film.
You're allowed to grade the movie at IFFR, and this scored average, with almost half of the votes being the lowest you could give and the other half being the highest you could give.
The discussions afterwards were priceless!! Someone called this the worst movie with the best music, something I could actually relate to (even though I loved the movie).
I consider this to be the cinema equivalent of opera, just like "The Duelist". It's so over the top it almost disappears out of view! You need to get into the movie to be able to enjoy it, and watching it at home on DVD might not be the way to do that.
In other news:
Isn't this director's cut actually half an hour SHORTER than the 'normal' release?

Yet another live-action anime brought over to American shores, a couple years too late......
another Asian movie that gets an R1 dvd at least 2 years too late.
i bought a bootleg about a year and a half ago.
f**king morons.

I want to see this film. So expect low things of it?!
you know i have the poster to this movie saying it would be released in the US..... in 2005
This cant be as bad as Transformers. I'll give it a rent.
Don't go in expecting something like Transformers (OR the Matrix). This is an arthouse movie first and foremost, a family drama second.
It's just that some SF-backgrounds and a grand total of two action scenes are added into the mix, and these are really cool-looking.
You might be forgiven for calling the rest "pretentious" if you're watching it to be entertained...

Love/Hate Relationship
Admittedly, like most arthouse/foreign films, this one won't be for most English-speaking audiences. It's not your usual anime or sci-fi fare and viewers will either love it or hate it; there's almost no middle ground. I actually loved it for it's campy action, beutiful eye candy and suprisingly moving story. Those who "get it" fill find more more emotional impact in this film than all three Matrix movies "put together."
