The only way I will buy this movie is if it is in DTS Surround I hate dolby digital it sounds like c**p. I dont know why they put out so many good movies with no DTS but that c**py dolby digital is on everyone.
"King Kong was a great remake (except for that silly scene on the frozen pond). Definitely not a failure. Box office wise it'll make its money back. Great CGI. Decent acting job from all the actors esp. Naomi Watts."
It was considered a financial failure. But not a critical or fan failure. If a film doesn't break even or go over, it's considered a failure by the studios.
Juxtapose that with Brokeback which was considered a possible flop or maybe a mild success, but its exceeded those expectations.

Brokeback Mountain. Another great film. An adult drama examining different relationships. Definitely not overrated. Ang Lee has not done any bad films. I even like the Hulk. (Most people just didn't get it much like Starship Troopers)
Narnia. Not in the same category as LOTR but like someone above said Narnia is a PG-cousin of LOTR. More a family movie like Harry Potter. Probably why it has done better than King Kong. The religious overtones are hardly noticeable at all. My girlfriend enjoyed it better than LOTR because "it wasn't just everyone fighting throughout the film like LOTR" Overrated maybe a little but that doesn't make it a bad film. Narnia is a pretty decent film.

No, the most overrated movie of the year is Brokeback Mountain.
Do gay people scare you?
And you're wrong about the box office. In spite of your in-depth analyses, Kong cost over 200 million to make, and possibly another 200 million to market, and only made about 143 million back. That's a failure.
Brokeback cost a mere 14 million and has made up to 100 million and the numbers keep rising. That's a success.
But you probably knew that.
And in spite of your "holsom" argument, "Hostel" was terrible.

Well neither are creative. Narnia is yet another adaptation in the Potter trend, and Kong is a remake.

I'm too p**sed off with 2 disk and single disk editions how much can we take of every single actor telling us how good the director is seems like the same s**t tooo me please help me
So have I on www.dvdsurround.ch
I just read there's gonna be a DTS track on the disc.
love special features!
$34.99 for the two-disc and $28.98 for the single-disc? Shame on you, Disney! At least Warner priced both editions of "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" fairly, with only a $2 difference for each version. The $6 difference for TCON is going to hurt the wallet.
Love the two-disc art, though.

They should really change the font on the single disc artwork edition it looks to ordinary and if they dont change it they are so stupid because it would take the focus from the fantastic font they have on the 2 disc edition. I demand they change it

I definitely wouldn't snub a movie just because it's based on Christain themes, but just because something's Christian doesn't make it better than a horror movie, you know. And Hostel was fabulous.

I hate the covers, but this looks kick-ass. Count me in.
I'm a life-long Narnia geek, and I thought the film was a pretty good adaptation. Not perfect; a little rushed, occasionally flat, but over-all pretty enjoyable (especially the climactic battle).
I'll definitely be picking up the 2-disc edition, and hopefully Disney will put some worthy special features on board - unlike the dreadful Harry Potter discs from WB.

The cover designs are identical to the soundtracks. The basic edition soundtrack is just like the single disc, while the two disc set is the same as the special edition soundtrack.
I think it's unfair to write off this film for Christian overtones since that's how the books were written. Like it or not, C.S. Lewis was a Christian and wrote the Narnia series with strong Christian symbolism in mind. Inlcuding that in the film was unavoidable.
I thought the film was good but did feel a little rushed at times. I liked it better the second time around.

And don't even get me started on "Brokeback Mountain". The movie's only made ~$30 Million and Kong has made around ~$450 Million and they're calling Kong a failure.
It's "wholesome" not "holsom" and comparing Brokeback with Kong is ridiculous. Brokeback had a significantly lower budget than Kong...it's all realtive to budget......you can agree with me or disagree - I wont lose sleep either way.
And for the record I did see "Hostel" and it was truly disturbing...even for a liberal atheist like me. Go figure.
And Brokeback isnt a failure by any means because it opened in limited release and has made a killing in its limited stance (just over 30 million on 680 screens with a budget of 14 million). Kong is playing everywhere and according to USA Today, overseas ticket sales are better than the US by a long shot. It is a failure in the US because it took 200 million to make and has only grossed 195 million here, but 300 million more worldwide, giving it the large number of 500 million...

I saw it today. Was a little late in seeing it due to MLK traffic, but it was a GREAT movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I might rent it, because I don't buy too many DVDs. I will probably get it on my birthday, which is May 17th.
There are a few obvious Christian symbolisms. By and large, it is not an overly Christian movie, though it retains a lot of the dialog and other story elements that can easily be seen as Christian if looked at deeper.
It is kind of funny when a film like this, or Brokeback, that has a very obvious political, lifestyle or belief leaning they are scruntinized more than say the average fence walking film. It is all art, you don't have to share the beliefs or the politics, just watch the movie for the entertainment of it!

Actually ADDZ, if you read the book, the film is actually more detailed than the book. So not sure if an extended version will be in the mix.
Saw this again with my youth group yesterday. I actually liked it better the second go around. Enjoyed it the first time, but it seemed to be even better on 2nd viewing. Definitely will be a DVD purchase.
I am just hoping for decent extras on the 2-disk. As I mentioned in my first post, this better not follow the Potter pattern and give us G-rated games and fluff. I totally understand the target audience here is kids, but take care of them on the 1-disk version and give us adults a worthy release on the 2-disk.

This is the most boring movie I watched all of last year. Beautiful scenery, but ultimately unfulfilling. When the most interesting character in your movie is a CGI Beaver, you have to know that something is wrong.
But the Two-Disc artwork does look awesome though. And shrink the text on the One-Disc, and it will be a winner as well.

Mr. Pibb and Red Vines equals crazy delicious!
anyone know if there may be some "extended edition" or a DC...coz this film felt a bit rushed and compacted. there might be other stuff to fill the gaps.
there probably isn't but if there was..i'd be getting that in an instant ala LOTR

So you're going to rent it and 'be done with it' even though you don't want to see it because of its overtones? Why even bother with it and rent something you're going to be happy about seeing instead? Watching the movie isn't an obligation you have to Disney you know.
Did you even read my whole statement? I said I also normally enjoy fantasy-type movies. I wasn't keen on rushing to the theater to see it because of what I heard about the overtones. But I can get it on netflix.

I finally saw this film yesterday and it was fantastic! I can't wait to own the great looking 2 Disc edition.
Yea, did not get to see this today either, I saw "Glory Road" instead. Decent film but some flaws that just came with the territory of a first time director. But I do hope to catch "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" before the DVD release.
CANT WAIT TO SEE THIS!!!
Havn't seen this, but am definately looking forward to the dvd release. I like the two disc artwork, as long as when the sequals come out, they dont change the style.

Kong cost $200 million to make plus marketing. Brokeback Mountain had a $14 million budget and has an outside shot at grossing $100 million domestically. So in the sense of pure profit margin, Brokeback's probably going to be considered the "success." Kong has still turned a profit and is a very good film.
I don't dislike Narnia because of its Christian overtones (though I did raise an eyebrow at gun-runner Santa Claus). I thought it was bland because I didn't care about any of the characters, there was a get-out-of-jail-free card introduced that eliminated any sense of danger for the characters, and even the eye-candy was sub-par. The wolves were embarassing and Aslan seemed to be in a different movie.
P.S. Hostel was trash

I'm surprised they aren't making a slipcover of the wardrobe that opens up (a la "Jumanji", or their Plantinum Editions).
Well I really enjoyed the movie, and the 2 disc artwork matches the 2 disc soundtrack (etc). Single disc cover looks bad, but I'll get the 2 disc. Really enjoyable, especially if you remember the "other" movies made, we had to watch one in fourth grade...the beaver was an overblown pinecone....
Ugh, bland movie. And that one-disc artwork is... overcrowded and empty all at once.

And yes, Disney has greenlit the production of Prince Caspian and is slated for release in 2008.
The order of the seven books is askew depending on which box set you have. The order of my my box set is the following:
1. The Lion, the Witch, & the Wardrobe
2. Prince Caspian
3. Voyage of the Dawn Treader
4. The Silver Chair
5. Horse and His Boy
6. Magician's Nephew
7. The Last Battle
One of my friends can't understand why the order is the way it is with my collection. It really doesn't matter anyway, as they are just collecting dust in my closet. I only got through Prince Caspian back in 1999...
Anyway, I wanted to see this movie, but went to King Kong instead. I've been limiting myself to one movie per month because of college and other obligations, so this will have to be my free April rental. This month's movie to see at the theater is Underworld: Evolution. Next Friday, baby!!

i'm glad it's out grossing that pretentious monkey. I hope they put a isolated 5.1 score on there
Great arts, especially the 2-Disc. Might as well add a Roger Ebert quote to the first, or any quote for that matter. The first feels its too clustered, and then empty, all at once.
I've heard a hell of a lot about this film and personally, I'm p**sed that it's outgrossing King Kong right now. Definitely a view.

That movie is so much better than the book! Looking forward to it.
C.S. Lewis wrote the books in this order
1. Lion, Witch, Wardrobe
2. Horse And His boy
3. Prince Caspian
4. Voyage Of The Dawn Treader
5. Silver Chair
6. Last Battle
7. Magician's Nephew
You'll often see Magician's Nephew first because chronologically, it takes place first but was written last and that's how it was intended to be. I think that Disney is skipping over Horse and His Boy and going right to Prince Caspian. Technically Lion Witch Wardrobe is first in the series, but not chronologically.

excellent fantasy film... the whole biblical aspect isn't nearly as distracting as many have mentioned, so definetly do not avoid seeing it due to something as trivial as that.
THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA: THE LION, THE WITCH AND THE WARDROBE (2005)
I have yet to see the movie, mabey I will go today because its snowing and cold and a perfect day to hit the theater. I heard it was good. The covers are pretty ugly, I hope they are not final.

Not necessarily. Disney is pretty good with their releases.

love the cover of the 2-disc release...unfortunetly this movie was horrible.
Awesome movie! I'll be getting this one for sure.
YaY! I'm happy they sticked with that art, I'm not too sure about the 2-disc art though :S .. Still havent seen this, I was going to but I saw the family stone instead, but ill definately buy this one, it one of those you just have to own.

Wow, Disney took a leaf from Warner's book and decide to do a barebones and 2-disc edition simultaneous release at the same time. Still nice for Disney to give fans the option.
They still need to shrink the font used for the title on the barebones disc. The art for the 2-disc is so much better. Haven't seen the movie or read the book.

I'll rent this - I avoided in theaters because of its overtly Christian overtones...and please don't start an unending debate with me over that statement. I don't care if you are Christian...I am not. Period. But I normally love this type of fantasy movie so I'll rent it and be done with it.

I really wanted to see this one and I didn't get a chance to. I like the single-disc art and not the two-disc art.
I just hope the 2-disk has decent extras and not Potter-like extras. I have a feeling it will be, but here is hoping they don't.
My suggestion to Disney; put games and "kiddie" stuff on the first disk and allow the scond disk to have content for persons over 14

They gotta revise the 1-disc edition, seriously, no question. The font and the size of the writing "walt disney..." and "the lion, the witch..." is AWFUL. Besides, they used the poster art for the videogame cover. Wouldn't people get confused? The 2-Disc art is good though. Plus, it's a really great movie. I thought I'd hate it cos I normally hate British movies even though I am British.
The book is so much better but i'll proberly wait till it's cheap
well, not a good movie, but the 2disc edition looks great!, but on the 1 disc(mmm)i think letters are extremetely bigger
Great movie, great cover art!
