I was a big fan of the original as a child and I'm with you 'Thembones', I really enjoyed this remake. I think it got an unfair battering from critics and folks in general. I thought that Pegasus was brillantly realised and the final dash to kill the Kraken was some of the most thrilling fantasy (blockbuster) fare i've seen in a while. Agreed the DVD cover could be better but i'll definately be buying this when it's released in the UK (mid-July last I read).
I agree with most of your points there Mr. Bones. The movie is entertaining. My dad likes it and that saying much from the entertaining aspect since he despise the likes of Spiderman 3, Alice in Wonderland, & Harry Potter 5.
It's just there're too much plot holes in this remake than in the original, like: why the people declare war when they absolutely know that they are powerless against the gods ? You can clarify that the men are powerless by counting the humans that cry, scream, run, and killed whenever Hades and his monsters appear on screen. Come on, It's not even in the original myth. I know that a lot of Greek myths sound stupid, but not nearly as stupid as the plot hole that I mentioned before.

I think Ray would have liked it.
I'm in the minority again. I enjoyed this film. Arterton was great and stunning. Worthington was good as well. To me this is all the bells, whistles and action that Hollywood is all about. It's not a Best Picture nor Cannes Film Festival Winner but it does what it was designed to do which is entertain and it seems that that is something that is lost nowadays when people go see movies. It's like they want this perfection that simply doesn't exist. Is it a perfect movie? No. But it is a fun ride that can't be beat with an overpriced box of popcorn, a coke and box of milk duds. Not taking any jabs at anyone but, lighten up, let yourself go and enjoy the ride.
I was very sceptical walking into this film. The rush 3D job and the fact that I loved Ray Harryhausen films as a kid, I almost felt that I was betraying Ray. I was pleasantly surprised. This was a good movie. It took the best parts of the original and turned into something that Mr. Harryhausen might have envisioned or at least might have done if CGI had been available to him. Reboots or remakes if you will, will always be critiqued that much more than an original film. I'm not quite sure what everyone expects when they go into a theater these days. I go in thinking, can this movie make me believe that I am there witnessing this tale. This was a fun ride and Hollywood should never stop making these kinds of movies. It's all about being entertained and I was very entertained.

By watching this movie now I can really confirm that under good directing, even a scene with the lamest FX can be both thrilling & exciting. Want some proof? Try compare the Medusa scene in this remake (with the advanced CG) to the Harryhausen one (with moving clay) and tell me wich one is scarier.
Dind't know there was a director's cut in the first place.

Do you even know Warner Bros.? Let me tell you their little "game". First, they release an almost barebones, or barebones DVD/Blu-ray. Then, they release the director's cut of the DVD/Blu-ray, months down the road. After that, they'll probably release the 3-D edition in 2011.

thanx for clarifying the extras issue! i thought COTT was ok. not great by any means. i liked the giant scorpions but Medusa was a bit of a let down IMO. and i have NO doubt that P3D's YEAR LONG post conversion will look awesome!! Aja will not disappoint (not again, after what was MIRRORS! lol
Your welcome, dj. I cannot wait for Piranha 3-D. I am there to see some teenagers get killed, in 3-D, in some of the most goriest ways. And also, since I'm kind of pervy, I hope the boobage count is sufficient!

It probably will be a BD/DVD combo pack, just the first-run pressings will be (a la "Sherlock Holmes" and "Time Traveler's Wife"

Hey dj! I remember you from the Piranha 3-D boards. To answer your question, the 3-D is every bit as awful as they say. The 3-D adds so much grainy, that the picture looks WAY dirtier and gritty than it's suppose to look like. It even makes the budget look EXTREMELY low and even makes the special effects look bad. Definitely not worth it. I had no "high expectations" for the 3-D, but wow, it was the worst I've seen (not even exaggerating). And also, dj, don't feel ripped off by the DVD of COTT having only one extra. The BD "exclusive extras" of COTT, only last for about seven minutes.
As for the movie itself, it's decent. Not bad, not good. Definitely not something I'd own. The story and acting were the WORST I've seen, but the visuals and action were the film's saving grace. A rental at most.

I seem to have liked it more than most! It'll be a first day blu-ray buy for me even if it's got some horrible artwork.

I enjoyed it more then I thought I would. Although it is pretty much a completely original movie as it has almost NOTHING to do with the original Clash of the Titans. Oh, and I am very disappointed in that BD art, it looks god awful. The Scorpions are featured everywhere yet they were the least creative-looking creatures in the film, I mean, give me the damn Kraken on the cover! Not stupid scorpions! I just hope some store comes up with a better looking exclusive cover because they will have my money for sure.
Okay remake. High on unintentional laughs, though.
So I take it from the cover that he kills Medusa?
Nice way to ruin that.

An epic fail on an epic scale.

Yay! I was hoping this would get a late summer DVD release. Enjoyed it in the theaters, but it'll be even better from my comfy couch.
Still... pathetic extras. I haven't upgraded to Blu Ray and probably won't unless my flat panel kicks the bucket and I have to buy a bigger screen. I bet this will look gorgeous on Blu Ray... but yeah, not going to fall for it. Pathetic extras, to boot.

considering how well the movie did, i'm surprised at the lack of care and attention to the extras. wasn't expecting a 4hr making of or anything but wow...these are the sorta movies that are made for extras.
i really liked it. The blu-ray cover is awful. augh. why couldnt they used the medusa one like the dvd?
That monster looks something that's straight out of "Transformers" in that artwork. Didn't see this movie anyway, didn't plan to.
This movie was dumb fun, and as a greek mythology fan I enjoyed it. Especially the production design. I prefer the dvd art but I'll be picking up the blu-ray. I also doubt we'll ever see a director's cut but it would be nice.
God. The box art is terrible.
This was decent. Its probably going to look and sound AWESOME on blu ray. Might rent.
DVD cover art. 'My what a big one'.

Prettier than what was thrown up on screen in 3D anyway.

I agree with u horrorfan25. I was just right on the fence with this. I might still rent it tho. I like both covers but i think i am partial with the dvd cover. I wish the would continue the trend that dark knight did. Give us a slipcover with a different image than the main package. I know the bluray did it, not sure if the dvd did tho. Also how do u know the other features are that short?
This movie was passable. It wasn't bad, but it wasn't good. The dialogue and story should both win Razzie awards, I mean, wow. Although, the action and special effects were good. Still, I don't care to buy this.
And yeah Warner Bros. 3 additional extras (2 of which only last 3 minutes each), makes DVD owners want to upgrade now! (I'm a Blu-ray owner, but if I was still a DVD owner, I would not give a c**p if I was missing extras that ran for only about 3 minutes each, bringing a total to six minutes.

This is not the movie that Leterrier filmed, the studio made him cut at least a half hour of stuff and also he re-shot some of it to change the original story.
I won't touch this with a s****y stick as you just know the "proper" Director's Cut is just around the corner.........

I enjoyed this movie a lot, can't wait to re-watch it again on DVD.
