Wow those 3D releases are expensive! I'm a couple months away from getting a new TV but I am still undecided if it'll be a 3D-ready TV. Out of my top 5 TV choices two are but I'm not sure how much I'm going to get into the 3D. It's cool but right now there are very few movies I will actually re-purchase or purchase for the first time in that format. (Avatar is the only one that immediately comes to mind)
I wonder if the above clear Blu-ray case will be the standard for 3D releases.
so the exact same movie, exact same extras but its in 3D so they charge more than double what i paid for it....nice. lol
its hilarious seeing people jump on the 3D bandwagon, i want it to fail just so those people can feel like idiots. i mean seriously, they are charging over 1000 dollars more for a television simply because it has 3D?
anyway regardless what the future of 3D is, i'm never getting involved. i loved this movie, it surprised me how great it ended up being but i'm happy with my blu-ray. dont need or want 3D.

I'm actually fine with regular HD setup. I don't need this 3D Home Entertainment setup right away. Besides it's not necessary. Still should wonder what the sale price is with 3D Home Entertainment.
I actually have a couple of questions:
1. Does 3D Home Entertainment cost more than regular HD setup?
2. Will the 3D Blu-Ray and DVD contain both 3D and the 2D version?
And I also don't need this movie. This was an excellent movie but would prefer seeing only once. Can they announce any of the Pixar films on 3D Blu-Ray, and ICE AGE: DAWN OF THE DINOSAURS?

1. Yes. Aside from spending almost twice as much on a TV that will have 3D capabilities, you'll also have to buy some expensive glasses for everyone that wants to watch it.
An average HDTV price is usually in the $600-1000 range, and currently 3D HDTV's are in the $2000-4000 range. The glasses are each around $150. Not. Worth. It.
2. Doesn't look like it in this case, but I'm sure some future 3D releases will have both.

Heres the thing with 3-D at home as of now.
1) It demands too much of the comsumer, new cables, new tv, new player, new movies. I mean honestly there aint a chance in HELL id paay 40 bucks for any movie. I just think 3d at home isnt neccessary. Anyway thats the bottom line for me, it demands too much from us. Most of us have already splurged for new tvs and new bluray players. No thank you, but the clear case is nice. Not 40 bucks worth of nice tho LOL

not to mention how much of a gimmick 3D actually is. there's nothing remotely cool or impressive about it. its like watching a moving Viewmaster image. for all the talk of the "new" 3D adding depth and making it an experience...it sure didnt do either of those things. and if it couldnt achieve that in a theater, what chance is there in a home setting?
of course there's always people who buy into all the new fads so i'm sure it'll be around for a while...hell it might even be a permanent part of the tech world but its still a gimmick i'll never give into.
that said....i am curious to see porn take a poke at this...get it?

Yeah, that would be one hell of a 3D experience.
Agreed, those 3D home experience is not worth it at all. I'd rather give my money to some orphan children near my neighborhood than spend it to buy those crazily expensive TV set & glasses. I'm not in the need to experience 3D show until they invent something close to VR like in the Matrix heh3x...(just kidding)

I'll wait for 3D Home Entertainment to become mainstream where regular HD setup becomes obsolete. I'm also hoping to know when "How to Train Your Dragon" comes out soon.
Doesn't make much sense to spend at least twice as much for a 3D tv when there are only three or four movies for it.

well their excuse is that there are already tv shows and even stations coming in 3D and the PS3 has already started releasing games in 3D. but yeah you'd think they would have waited another year or so until there were a few things available before releasing the TVs.
of course that still doesnt defend the fact they basically charge you around 1000 dollars or more for the extra gimmick of 3D. not to mention the cost of the glasses and the fact they are all brand specific right now. sure some companies are working on universal glasses but if universal remotes are any sign, they'll rarely work. :p

Have you 3D naysayers actually seen 1080P/3D on a 3D TV?
I bet most of you would change your tune if you did. I've seen 3D on Samsung's new LED LCD. It's just OK. But yesterday, I saw a brand new Sony 3D LED LCD. I watched a demo of the Toy Story 3 trailer and a clip from Alice In Wonderland. It looked amazing and much better than the Samsung. I can't wait to see the Panasonic 3D plasma, which is considered the best of all.
All these new TVs use active shutter technology, which is sharper, more vibrant and colorful than polarized, which cinemas and Imax use. I've seen Up and Alice in a 3D cinema, and Avatar in 3D Imax. I'm not impressed by polarised 3D. It's soft and dull. But active shutter 3D on the Sony TV was sensational.
Do you actually know what you're talking about regarding 3D TV prices? You're comparing bottom of the range prices to 3D TVs that are the top of the range for Samsung, Sony and Panasonic. This year's Panasonic 3D plasma is roughly the same price (possibly less) as last year's equivalent 2D model, when it first came out. You'll find a similar pattern with Sony and Samsung prices.
I saw some sport 3D as well. It was almost like being on the sidelines. Going back to 2D was actually a slight downer, as the 3D was so cool to watch. Being in a fluorescent lit store environment, there was the tiniest flicker through the glasses. It took a little getting used to, but after a few minutes it was fine. I think in a softly lit home environment with a tweaked TV, it wont be an issue.
All you folks, go and check it out before thinking it sucks.

if theatrical 3D doesn't impress me, i dont see how television would. and even if i saw and thought it was cool, its still not something i'd wanna always see either. i'll take Avatar for example, i wasnt blown away or anything but it was neat to see, i admit that. but i dont have any desire or need to ever see that movie in 3D again you know?
and this new trend of the newer 3D has already reached the point where they now do it just because its popular and brings movie and not because they think it'll make a difference. i mean they are converting movies that werent even meant to be that way into 3D. they are even talking about converting older movies as well. they're already over saturating and using the technology in a stupid way.
as for 3D television, i just wanna sit or lie down and watch whatever show or movie thats on. i dont need for it to be some awe inspiring experience or wanna have to wear extra toys just to enjoy it. and regarding their prices, i looked into it because i was curious and the prices were a little ridiculous. i would see two tvs made by the same brand with the exact same specs down to the size and all....but the one that had 3D ability was many hundreds and even 1000 dollars more.
of course thats normal with any new tech, the prices are crazy at first and eventually go down as it becomes more mainstream. so yeah, just let the people who HAVE to be first pay that but its still a little crazy for how much extra they charge for such a small difference. and i was only looking into LCD, i can only imagine the difference between a regular LED tv and a 3D one since they are already that much more.
but alas in the end....all these are simply personal opinions. if you're a person who thinks 3D rocks then go for it, jump in and enjoy.
