Why even bother posting the BD coverart? It's always exactly the same as the standard.....
Ugh! and i just bought this on standard DVD.
this movie suuuuucked.
"Godzilla" + "The Blair Witch Project" x J.J. Abrams = Poop.

I'm sure they will for new releases. They had stockpiles of the older titles just sitting around gathering dust, so it's no wonder they just reissued them as-is.

There were hidden things in this movie? Like what? Can u name a few?
When you pause the movie after they shut the door from parasites in the sewer, in the static, you can see a monster that looks like Godzilla. After the helicopter crash in the end, you can see if you pause during the static, King Kong. If you read into the viral marketing, Tagruato owns Rob's company Slusho and on their website in November or December '07, they made an announcement they lost one of their satelites and that's the assumed object that falls from the right side of the screen into the ocean at Coney Island. Tagruato also owns drilling stations, one of which was the one near the Statue of Liberty that capsized and caused the "earthquake" which wakes up the monster about 15 minutes into the movie.

I can tell you Chris that they will be region free :-)
Glad to see Dolby TruHD for this title. It must sound amazing.
Speaking of Dolby TruHD, Paramount needs to embrace it's Blu-ray soundtracks using this output.

I do hope that these Paramount BDs turn out to be coded for all regions. They don't list regions on the covers, but that doesn't mean a lot. I wish they'd all follow Sony's lead. Still, I guess we'll get it in the UK - it'll just cost double the amount.

I always wonder what will happen to the web sutff linked to these BD's in 5 years when the studios can't be bothered paying for the hosting fees...
I saw an HD trailer for it, so even though is meant to look handycam-ish, it still hads an HD master transfer.
Did they shoot this on High-Def cameras? I wouldn't imagine that the blu ray video would be much better than DVD, considering the film issupposed to look all handycam-ish. Or is the DVD transfer bad?
Might be worth it for the audio though...

I knew I shouldn't have bought the standard DVD release.
Well, needless to say that I'll be getting the Blu-Ray - Great come back for Paramount today, I can see myself picking up most of what they announced today on BD, including There Will Be Blood!
I am gonna buy this DVD, but i wuz expecting a 2disc special edition or an Unrated DVD, but no. Is it true dat the movie will make u dizzy? i haven't seen it.

A great script and a great director and relatively unknown actors (see starwars to get why that's important).

great that they used the poster art for the cover, but the quotes are quite unnecessary and ruin it kinda.

I'm extremely drunk, so probably not the best time to comment on this thread, but f**k me a couple of you need to get a grip. Not only are your arguments generally poorly structured (and definitely grammatically f**ked up the arse), but you sound like a bunch of killjoy motherf**kers.
FFS, it was a film. Of course the mechanics don't completely add up. Of course we would probably s**t ourselves and run for the hills when confronted with a monster, but the bloke in the film did not - and for reasons that were explained in the film. That's the conceit. If you can't get over that, f**k off. B***hing about it makes you sound like whiny little c**ts - although not as much as the hilarious substitution of 'D' for 'douche'. F**king r-tard.

What is clear here is that you are a rabid fanboy for this movie, and the genre in general. You are trying to say that Blair Witch and Cloverfield are different other than the way they are shot. You are desperately trying to argue that there was no intent to give the audience the feeling that these were actual accounts. You are vastly in the minority with that opinion. And I suppose you know the "intent" of the marketing campaign because...? But yet you say "yes, it was filmed and marketed that way - but not with the intention of making people believe it was a true event (ie, the blair witch project)" Does this not sound as if you are saying "that blair witch came across as real?" Maybe I see a contradiction where others don't, semantics. What you imply is that Monster movies should be fluffed off, but Witch movies can be believable. So we should not believe in monster's... but witchcraft is now a scientific fact deserving of merit? I'll give you this, you're unprovoked insult lead to my aggitated response. You can say I'm the idiot, but your logic is flawed.

Why show the monster on the back...
this is completely not worth arguing over, but the issue here is that you two morons keep complaining about the realism component of this movie - I am saying that it is a bit of a stretch to expect realism from a monster movie. in my opinion, the home video style simply offers a different/unique perspective on a genre that has already been beaten to death. as others have said, if you wanted the 'scientist/government' perspective - you watch godzilla :S
would someone put so much effort into filming an event like this while their lives are in serious danger? that's anyones guess. take a look at the number of videos from 911 where people are standing underneath these buildings, taping when they could collapse at any moment... most people would not, but its not completely unrealistic to expect some douchebag would value their camera more than their lives in a situation like this. either way, in the context of the film - if the camera was left behind, we'd have no movie would we?
and dave, there's a huge difference between what was in cloverfield and... "talking donuts" / "people growing wings" - you can't seriously be trying to make that comparison?
billy - you clearly can not read. did i once state that blair witch came across as real? no. i said it was MARKETED that way. kinda hard to believe it's a 'true' event when the stars of the movie feature in other films huh
but since you're so bitter about it, im going to make the assumption that YOU were one of the people fooled by their marketing :D
but your above rant demonstrated the extent of your IQ so i needn't bother arguing with you

What is your fkn point anyway? Yes it's a monster movie, you've made that point abundantly clear. But that's all you have. You obviously have no intelligent argument on the subject. Why shoot the entire c**pfest with a hand cam if you were just making a monster movie? It is you, simple rube, who is missing the point. The point of this turd, if you've read any other comment on this site, was to make the audience feel what the characters feel. Did the characters in the movie wander around saying "Ahhh, it's only a monster movie... no worries mate!" There are plenty of mindless monster movies you can watch that won't have you straining the under-developed peanut rattling around in your skull. You can sit in your Mom's basement grunting "Monsturrr, Gooood"... "Explosiooon, Coool". Try one of the Pumkin Head movies, that's probably more your speed.
And one more thing Mike...
The "point" of this movie WAS to give the audience the feeling that these were true events, a la Blair Witch. Wait... you are one of those potato heads that thought the Blair Witch was real, huh... Anyone with an IQ higher than 65, or above the age of 8, would know that any movie is just that. Even if they "went as far as to air a behind the scenes type documentary featuring interviews with 'friends and family' of the persons from the film." Is there a parent or family member in the world that would allow a video tape of their child being killed to be released as a movie? Talk about getting real.

I was dissappointed by this flick as well... I LOVE so called "creature features" but this was underwelming in all areas. That said, I would have given it another go on Blu Ray. I won't waste my money on this until there is a decent HD offering...

In the UK there were signs saying not to sit so close that the screen filled your entire eyeline. That was what was making everyone sick in the US.
I loved this film. One of the best action movies I've ever seen. Despite the shaky cam (which was only horrible in the bridge scene) all the action was framed very well and served it's purpose. I really liked the way they used it as a device and I thought it was really well done. I near s**t my pants in the helicopiter scene and in the tunnel! It also had possibly the best sound design I've ever heard in my life.
I'm sure it won't be as good on the small screen though which is a shame.

Fine great. Do it like that, do it in that 'monster version of "Saving Private Ryan" beach landing scene'...but lose the friggin camera! Do it from a character POV like "Ryan".
The camera worked for the build-up and initial attack (basically the first trailer we all loved) but then leave the camera in the rubble which is where it would be as you fled for your life through a ruined city with a real friggin monster on your arse.

That is the shortest back cover synopsis I've ever read.
It's an okay small budget creature feature. What sets the film apart though is its shaky cam and YouTube ‘Lonely Girl 15’ vibe.

My man Dave Brock to the rescue. I couldn't have said it better. I have no problem suspending disbelief, as I said it's not the monster I have a problem with. But as D-Brock points out, they pass it off as actual events. Which means they need to be aware of the reality of the world in which they portray. And in the "real world" 95% of the time people die in helicopter crashes. This isn't the A-Team, this is to be taken as real accounts of a Monster attack. Are we to believe that the laws of physics should "get real" cuz it's a monster movie? And 20-30 minutes into this snoozer, they were still eating fondue and crying about ex-girlfriends, so that "version" wouldn't work either. The characters were boring, thinly developed, poorly executed and I couldn't care less about them. I was happy to see them go.

At least they didnt add ANY Pete Hammond quotes! YES!
By the way... I hate so many quotes jammed into a cover. It takes all the fun out of it. I'll deal with it. This should of been the last HD DVD title from Paramount though.

so how about this version?
movie starts, monster attacks, camera falls for the first time and breaks or is left behind by the people running away, movie ends about 20-30 mins in - would you be satisfied now? get real people...
More rot!
No, the film carries on (just as any other Monster film has) only with the stupid idea that it's all being filmed left behind with the camera. As it would have been anyway.
Get real? Just did.

I believe that most of the people who complain about this movie don't like the whiny, 20-somethings because these movie characters are too much like themselves. Otherwise, to me it's a great movie.
EXCELLENT FLICK. Saw it 2 times and got the same response each time. Can't wait to see the extras. Truly destined to be one of the greatest monster movies of all time. Hands down. Cannot wait for the for any number of sequels or prequels.

Note to Hollywood: can we please move on now?
Thank you.
It was supposed to be filmed on a home video camera during a monster attack in which people were scrambling for their lives. They were hardly going to shoot it with a Steadicam.
True, though not the point I'm making...besides, it's not like it's some revolutionary idea anyway. As mentioned elsewhere, Blair Witch already treaded this ground nearly 10 years ago...

What rot!! It may be a friggin monster but it's a monster meant to be in the real world!
If you're saying that basic common sense and natural fact means nothing because of a fantastical element (the monster) then it makes no difference if the people suddenly grow wings and fly away from it either!
But of course it does matter as, monster or not, the film is meant to be set in the the real world.

im hoping the blu ray cover doesnt have that many quoets cause with that and the HD labels and all im sure that would be worse

And on a note re: Cloverfield. Walked out, the motion sickness was so bad, so haven't got a clue what happened in the final 30mins so will have to to rent this when it finally hits the UK! Oh and nice coverart, damn shame about the quotes though.
well in the final 30, the CIA led by Sydney Bristow come to the rescue just as Felicity's building gets demolished as the monsters tears it apart....we then realize that if you combine all the numbers on the CIA license plates, it forms 4 8 15 16 23 42

That anyone would carry on filming all that (A MONSTER! A REAL MONSTER!), while in the middle of it is s**t enough, but that the footage manages to capture enough gold footage that it can make up a cinema release film is even worse!
F**K this!
F**k "Diary of the Dead" (Romero considers his once mighty zombies so unthreatening that they become simply YouTube tithead fodder as well as the fact no one would film all that while in it let alone make footage that is multiplex worthy) , "Blair C**p" and anything else.
One film and one director only, ever, made such a logically risky idea work from a genuinely believable level and they were "Cannibal Holocaust" and Ruggero Deodato.

I like the artwork and the quotes. I'll probably still buy the steelbook edition though. I'm sure they'll be a double-dip in the near future though.
I'll wait for the BRD too. But I don't think this will be announced for BR anytime soon. Paramount is obviously still bitter over making the wrong decision (just like Universal), and they dont want to give in this soon. Sure, they both announced blu ray support right away, but as for actual title announcements, I think it will be several months, possibly as late as the holiday season, before the morons who run each studio will let some titles be announced. Right now, they'll probobly say the blu ray fan base isn't big enough. Both studios need to suck it up and take the defeat like men. Of course, they could still have legal issues to iron out with HDDVD, but if thats the case, they could at least let us know.
Terrible, TERRIBLE artwork.. will wait for the inevitable double-dip..
WAY too many quotes on the front.
terrible art.
im glad FYE (Transworld Stores) will be having a Steelbook Packaging for this flick, that has a better cover... all the quotes on this one are stupid!

for the people whining bout the shaky Cam This was the freaking point of the movie its filmed from someones point of view did you not watch any of the trailers? If you did i think you would have noticed that. anywhoo i loved this movie well the fact that there is no blu ray yet must be that there working on specail features for the movie wich i will pick up the blu ray movie day one. the best movie of the year.
Final artwork added...
i also get motion sickness easy, i didn't chuck for the movie thank god, but another 15 min i probably would have, i enjoyed the movie alot, i would love to but it on dvd but my concern is the shaky cam. how bad will it be on dvd. i know blairwitch when it hit to dvd there was hardly any ir not none like the theatical release. will dvd i was wondering if anyone knew if they were going to change the format on dvd, will there be less shaky cam to it?? or what?? i just don't wanna get sick everytime i pop in into a dvd player

I have to agree I'm sick of film-makers using shaky cam just for the sake of it. I haven't seen the Bourne ultimatum but the Bourne supremacy could have been a great action movie without all that shaky cam work and quick cutting.
As for clover field I'll rent the DVD because there's no way a film so massively hyped ever lives up to expectation.

I was expecting a 2-Disc Unrated set. While these extras seem decent, I have to imagine some Ultimate Special Collector's Edition release down the line. In any case, I enjoyed the film, but the ending left me disappointed. Just feel that there should've been more backstory and aftermath in the film, but whatever the case, I will purchase it on DVD. Whether I'll wait it out or not, I do not know.

Possibly the best experience ever had at the theater.
About the motion sickness,if you sat in the first three rows (Like I did) you will be sick to death!!! But on dvd (I got a bootleg of it) its fine it doesnt bother you that much!!!
I get motion sickness very easily, but miraculously I didn't during this. The camera is jittery to begin with in the opening minutes and it allows you to get accustomed to it.
Awesome flick. Saw it twice, and I plan on watching it more than that once it hits DVD.
I love the art, but I'm praying they don;t end up with a stupid quote on it. Just the image and the title are fine, put the quotes on the back.

this was good, though very cheesy effects coming from the monster.
Saw this 4 times in theatres! One opening night with buddies and it was PACKED!!! They opened up 2 more for the 3 auditoriums that were already playing it. Then saw it the next day with my siblings, still packed. Then a 3rd to see what I missed after reading all the internet talk then the last one on Digital Projection.
Cloverfield is a great movie! It's not just a monster flick but its about the people living this event. It's digital video technique may be used a lot nowadays but its not just a gimmik; it's put to good use to explain more about the charcters.

I nearly fell asleep watching this stinker. Pass.
I'm thrilled that they used the poster art and put the title at the top of the cover, both exactly as I hoped they would.
The only other thing I'm hoping for when the final artwork comes out (aside from the correct font stylization and size) is that the front cover continues over onto the sleeve like many releases do--this way the DVD will have that unique torquoise flavor when I put it amidst all the rest of my collection.
I don't know what the odds of that happening are, though.

Cloverfield and The Blair Witch Project are both excellent films, because they don't just rely on their gimmick, but throw in a lot more that one wouldn't have expected. This film's maybe the best time I've had at a theater (saw this at midnight when it opened, mind you).
Definitely picking it up.

Cloverfield had maybe one scene I liked, and it was way too short. The movie was incredibly boring, I watched The Blair Witch Project last night and couldn't get up to turn my tv off. I'll stick with my Gamera collection.
Also, in my newspaper the quote on the Cloverfield ad said, "You won't want it to end" I completely agree it was only an hour long.

Saw this last week and it was glorious. The hype scared me but I ended up loving it. This release seems a little lackluster...I loved what IGN had as their wishlist for this movie (http://dvd.ign.com/articles/846/846889p1.html).
i still haven't forgiven my girlfriend for dragging me to see this horrid piece of overhyped ****.
best part of the evening (besides watching how many people were walking out half way through) was looking my girlfriend dead in the face when it was over telling her, "Told you so."

The 'leaked' artwork was way better.
i knew they were going to use the poster for the artwork on the dvd. and there is also a collectors edition steelbook of the film which will have more special features on it
I saw artwork that was supposedly going to be used for the DVD release. It looked amazing and really stuck with the realism of the film...unfortunately, this is not it. I like this cover art, though...however, I am getting sick of the same image everywhere.
This is yet another movie where the hype greatly overshadowed the film itself. The marketing for this movie was very well done, and the movie itself.....just "ehhhh". Wasn't the worst I'd ever seen, but it wasn't the best either.
I don't get motion sickness, but this one did give me a headache by the time it was over. I would rather have seen the movie from a 3rd person perspective.
Hmmmm.... is one of the feats. on the viral marketing? If so, I hope they use the pics I took in central park back in early August! I would be so happy

Damn it! I was hoping for a 2-disc special edition or an unrated cut. Bloody-Disgusting reported that a lot of footage was cut to get a PG-13 and that the filmmakers originally wanted a hard R rating. I smell a double-dip coming down the line.
Am I the only one who didn't "get" the craze about this flick? It had an interesting plot, but it looked terribly lame.

i heard the blu-ray might be a barebone edition because they created all these extras for the HD version but since that format is dead, they wouldnt have time to redo em all for blu-ray so instead of delaying, they will release a bare version first. i surely hope this isnt true but i wouldnt be surprised.
I rather enjoyed this flick...I'll probably pick it up...though it probably won't be the same on a considerably smaller screen...
