This movie should look splendid on Blu.

I only in the last month caught this, science fiction is my favourite genre and hearing good things about this expected a lot. The first 30 mins showed promise but after that, for me, it fell away terribly.
Not so much a sci-fi film in the classic sense as it is a philosophical look at existence with sci-fi trappings. I think it's got more in common with Close Encounters or Solaris than, say, a film like 2001....
I've been wanting to get this on DVD, now I can just wait and get it on Blu. Always an interesting Sci Fi movie in my opinion.
Why hasn't this ever gotten a new DVD? clearly they have a new print. Glad to finally see it arrive on Blu-ray. This is a great film.
I love the film and the ending is a btter than how it ended in the book. The ending (in the movie) leaves it open.
I have fond memories of this movie. Running time is a bit exhausting though.
I haven't seen the film in ages but it wasn't clear what the directors intensions were to me. Something about having faith in alien existence is the same as having faith in god maybe?
Awesome. One of my favorite film of all-time. Wow, this week is just keep getting better and better. First, Kaka to Madrid and now Contact on Blu, best week ever!! (until the next one).
The first DVD I ever bought back in 1999 was Contact. Think it may only be right to get it on Blu. A Fantastic movie, I will dream of a TrueHD track as the sound of the machine will just be incredible. Fingers crossed.
Definitely a day one buy for me! One of the best sci-fi films ever. (The best in Sci-Fi will always be 'The Lost Room' to me)
i remember when i saw this in theaters, Matthew's character pissed me off. lol i'm already so anti-religion and then seeing him act the way he did, and the fact that many people like him actually exist. i guess its a credit to him as an actor because i like him but definately hated the guy he was playing. and the clincher was the scene when they asked her if she believed in god when deciding if she should be chosen...like that had ANY relevance to anything. my word. and sadly a question like that probably would be used in a similar situation and you'd be judged based on your answer....well unless you said yes then they'd give you a free pass but that's another story.
but i'll also always remember this movie as my introduction to Jena Malone, she was so pretty then and has turned into such a gorgeous girl. I also remember thinking she played a good young Jodi. lol

Not a neccesity to have your fingers crossed. Anything Warner throws at us nowadays comes attached with a TrueHD 5.1 track. Watchmen being exceptional with a rare DTS-HD MA.
Note: When I mean "nowadays" of course Im actually referring to present time. Not back then when they had Speed Racer obtain a lossy soundtrack.

"Well, I stood up in the theater and said 'No! You can't build a new one because it was blown up by Jake Cockadoody Busey!'" lol.
I really hope this does look as fantastic as it deserves to look (although blu-ray.com lists it as being a 25gb disc). This is one of my favorite movies, and one of the first I bought on DVD.
Personally I don't consider it to be very sci-fi. I view it as a study of a woman who comes to terms with the profoundness of faith. A lot of people who thought it was a let down as a sci-fi flick weren't interested in that aspect of the film. In fact, it wasn't even part of Clarke's book, but this is what makes me love the movie all the more. Probably the most memorable criticism was Matt Stone and Trey Parker hilarious bashing of the ending through Mr Garrison on South Park. I wonder how anticlimactic it would have been if the move had ended the way the book does, with a friggin dox-matrix printout of a circle.

All I gotta say is. It's a bout time.
An average film but with great visuals from memory
