Probably in L.A. and NYC
No, it was everywhere, but only in REALLY limited release.
The cover makes it look like it's a blockbuster action flick while it's a basic drama about illiegal immigration.
Heard this movie got wrote off by a lot of critics because of all-too-familiar plot similarities with Crash.....
I don't see why that should mean they write it off but what you say is true, fans also made this comment.
Didn't this come out last summer?
To my knowledge, this was supposed to come out well over a year ago, but got pushed back a couple times....I can see the comparisons with Crash, but I believe those similarities are only skin deep.
well, my dad loves Harrison Ford films and this comes out near Father's Day. I guess I know now what to get him. That or something for his Wii, he's in love with that thing. Seems to have a great cast. Jim Sturgess does well in everything he does and Ashley Judd is always a refreshing face.
This is supposed to be a drama in the vein of, "Traffic," based around illegal immigration as opposed to the illegal drugs trade with the stories of several characters interweaving throughout, with Ford's role being one of those as opposed to the, "lead role." But you're right, that cover is definitely going for the, "Action Blockbuster: Let's hope they buy it before they read the synopsis on the back," award.
Wayne Kramer commented on HD-Digest recently about how Harvey Weinstein butchered his movie. I applaud him for speaking his mind and I think everyone should read his comments. I think I'll wait until his Director's Cut gets released.
Here’s the actual link to the Hi-Def Digest comment:

And a cut and paste of Kramer’s comments:
Thanks for the kind words about Running Scared. In answer to Greg’s question, I have no idea when Lionsgate will release a Blu Ray of THE COOLER. I’d be happy if they’d just release the unrated cut in the U.S. on standard def - although it’s only a matter of seconds in difference, it is still not the director approved version. A Blu Ray would be sweet, though. Lionsgate recorded DVD commentaries from Bill Macy, Maria Bello and Alec Baldwin at the time and they’ve never used them. I think they were waiting to use them on a special edition and when they merged with another company in 2004, they just blew the idea off. I’ve inquired a few times, but like all these home video departments, unless the movie was a blockbuster, they just offer you lip service. Again, it’s strange that Lionsgate doesn’t release a Blu Ray of THE COOLER because it did extremely well on DVD and there are deleted scenes and new commentaries that they can take advantage of. For whatever reason, my films have never been huge box office theatrically and the companies are always looking to save a buck by skimping on extras.
CROSSING OVER is a whole other deal. The theatrical cut of the film is NOT my film. Harvey Weinstein (in collusion with other parties) cut out about twenty plus minutes of my film and restructured everything. There’s an entire Sean Penn framing device missing, including a great Alice Braga performance. It plays like a Twilight Zone episode on the U.S./Mexico border and connects to a major storyline within the film. The Penn storyline, in fact, was the very material that my 1995 short film was based on. The sex scenes in CROSSING OVER were also eviscerated (as well as the sexual dialogue toned way down) and the resolution to the Jim Sturgess/Alice Eve storyline was cut out. I can’t really get into the politics of why the Sean Penn scenes were removed – a lot has already been written about it on the internet, mostly accurate (it’s completely absurd!), but the film I directed was far grittier and more textured that what was released – or should I say, barely released. If you lived outside of New York or L.A., you didn’t even know the film came out – and even if you lived in those cities, I’m not sure you knew about it either. I seem to have a s**tty track record of getting decent distribution for my films. Lionsgate did fine with THE COOLER, but it never expanded beyond a few hundred theaters. CROSSING OVER’s highest theater count was 42, I think. It was a really bad experience in post production on that film and even now, Harvey Weinstein is cockblocking a Director’s Cut on DVD. He screwed up the theatrical release and he still won’t concede that he damaged the film and the perception of the film and won’t agree to release the real film I made. I was really proud of the film I directed and I think there are great performances (even in the theatrical cut), but when you cut out all connective tissue and major plot points and take the edge off a gritty indie film, you’re going to be left with a mediocre piece of work and it sucks because as a director it’s almost impossible to remove your name. I only hope one day that we’ll see a genuine Director’s Cut on CROSSING OVER, because I think we made a really good film. It just wasn’t released that way. I don’t know whether there will be a Blu Ray release of the theatrical cut. I’m not on very good terms with the company and I won’t be participating in any of their extras (so don’t expect a director’s commentary) until they agree to release a Director’s Cut. But the truth is, I just don’t think they give a s**t over there. Please feel free to contact Weinstein Company and request a Director’s Cut of CROSSING OVER – it will be worth it if you’ve enjoyed my previous films (even if you haven’t).
And, man, that artwork is just SO tacky and misleading. Typical deceptive Weinstein Company move. The only thing missing from the cover is Jean Claude Van Damme and Cuba Gooding, and, trust me, this just isn't that kind of movie. It's more along the lines of Traffic, Crash and Babel.

THANK YOU for posting that article! Now I know to wait on watching this and support his director's cut!!!
The Weinstein's also screwed-up the Elmore Leonard thriller "KILLSHOT".
That whole experience ended with Diane Lane quitting the movie industry!

Too bad the movie has been cut. I though The Weinsteins finally stopped doing their hack and slashing of films after they left Miramax. I guess not. I wouldn't mind it as much if they also included the director's version on DVD too. They do great with some films and then there are things like this. Hopefully, the DC of CROSSING OVER will see the light od day like the original versions of Halloween 6 and Hellraiser; bloodlines (films reedited by Miramax while the Weinsteins were still there).
I can...not...STAND Ray Liotta, and I am grimacing at the fact that Harrison Ford starred in a movie and it wasn't even remotely IN the box office, let alone a hit, and not to mention this cover makes it look like a thriller when all I've heard is melodrama, melodrama, melodrama, BUT...this movie comes out, I buy it.
Well, you can't blame the film for not being "remotely IN the box office, let alone a hit..." when Weinstein only released Crossing Over into 42 theaters and no marketing support. Box Office Mojo has it's opening weekend average at almost 9 million per screen, so that's pretty decent without any marketing awareness. The film would probably have done quite well with $$ thrown behind in.
Wow... I'd never even heard of this. I like Ford and Sturgess, though. I'll probably NetFlix it at some point. Sounds like Weinstein shafted it, though.
Saw the trailer a while ago, didn't really captured me. Might buy this when it hits a fiver.
Nice to hear Director Wayne Kramer´s comment on his latest movie
Honestly, I´m not surprised to read all the problems he had on the movie. Moneymen fighting the Director - it happens a lot more often than you can imagine.
Still, the Director has to put his name to a given movie whether it gets slashed by the critics, which Crossing Over apparently did.
We, the audience nor the Critics, never know the Directors "true" intentions of a given movie. Sure, commentaries can sometimes reveal this, but most often times they don´t.
Moneymen has more power than the Director. Just remember that. Critics should take this into consideration when they write DVD/Blu-ray reviews.

Is Harrison Ford turning gay?
He's crossing over....
Hey - it's been a slow morning here

Director's cut would be great!
20 minutes of this film was cut. Sean Penn's & Lee Horsley's scenes were deleted from this movie. So glad that the director, Wayne Kramer is speaking out about how Harvey Weinstein butchered his movie. Can only ope for a Director's Cut down the road! Film needs to be seen in its entirity!
