Hmm...
I went and saw this against my better judgement and the reviews hoping they were wrong...they weren't...and I'm not sure how 2 additional minutes would help, but I am interested in the commentary track, should be a good listen for a wreck of a movie.

yes this move was BAD..but in a good way kinda lol i was hoping the unrated vesion would have more than just 2 mins since wes craven was mad about dimension cutting it down from R-rating to pg-13
i work at a movie theater and saw the tail end of this movie and was kinda intrigued because i like wes craven's films, but this one was sure hailed as a terrible film, so i decided to wait until dvd. i'll check it out, UNRATED VERSION of couse! Don't want to see what the director didn't want me to see (the PG version)
I heard rumors of Dimension releasing CURSED: Unrated Director's Cut and was told that this was the origional R rated Wes Craven approved version. CURSED started out R and the studio wanted a PG-13 film, so there was many scrpit re-writes, re-shoots and re-casting ect. to achieve this. For example they replaced Scott Foley for Joshua Jackson and Mandy Moore for Mya. They also cut out practly every gory scene and that really took away the effect of the film. With all this taken out of the film I do not understand how Dimension can only add back 2 minutes to the film... I just don't get it. Touchstone did such a great job with the KING ARTHUR: Unrated Director's Cut, it imporved the film so so so so much! The director was so happy that he got the film he wanted and I was really happy that KING ARTHUR turned out to actually be a good movie, not that crap they gave us at the theater. So I really hope that Dimension changes their minds and releases Wes Cravens perfered version of CURSED with all the original actors and scenes. Wes himself said that CURSED (the R rated cut) was a "nice little picture" and I hope that Wes can get his version and I know that audiences will look at it diferently if they see it too. PLEASE Dimension give us the real movie!!!!
(NOTE: I will still pick up the DVD of CURSED, the unrated version of course
)

where's the deleted footage?
The "original" version has Mandy Moore in the Mya role, along with different cast members who were cut out of the "revised" version.....I'm curious to see all the cut stuff.
It was a good movie..im just wanting to know how much 2 min will add.. to me it seems there was more than 2 min cut but who knows...
I'll watch the unrated DC, but I want deleted scenes because this movie had some roles recast and some scenes cut when they went to do reshoots.
this movie was awesome...cant wait to get the unrated dvd
Different Cast and Editing
All the editing on this movie was bad! You can tell actually what scene was new and what was not. Also Mandy Moore was in it then cut out, also Scott Foley (Felicity) was suppose to play her love interest then he was cut out. They cast Joshua Jackson (Dawson Creek) as new love interest and let not forget the whole movie was re-shot again. Then of course giving it an (R)rating, then editing it for a (PG-13) rating bummer.
I think it looks passable.
What a piece of crap movie. I'm all for supporting horror and Wes Craven but this was beyond terrible. What made it most awful was the continuity. Like PJ said, you can TOTALLY tell what was shot later/earlier. I mean, Christina Ricci's hair changes styles every second shot and the kid who plays her brother actually goes from real hair, to wig, to real (shorter) hair, to shorter wig, to real (longer) hair and so on...it was terrible.
Judy Greer continues her hostile take-over of Hollywood. Who casts her? She's awful!

Poor Wes Craven. I feel bad for him for screwing up with this film.
Awesome! I knew they'd be releasing this in both PG-13 and Unrated versions! They should have just released it "R" to begin with! Idiots! But I'm happy they are going to release it on DVD in an "Unrated" version at least. Plus, it sounds like it will have some solid special features. A commentary with Williamson and Craven should definitely be interesting. It's kind of disappointing that it's only 2 minutes longer though
. However it can still add quite a bit to a movie, especially if it's just violent stuff being put back in. And also it is more than most "Unrated" versions put back in. It's usually just a gimmick and there's only a slight few second difference ( AMERICAN PIE, AMERICAN PIE 2, WHITE CHICKS, EUROTRIP, etc...) that is barely noticeable. There are exceptions though ( KING ARTHUR, CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, DARKNESS, SOUL SURVIVORS, etc...). I know a couple of people that saw Soul Survivors in theaters where it was released as PG-13 and didn't care much for it, but then saw The Killer Cut (the "R" version) on DVD, which was only a minute longer, and they liked it more this time and said it definitely improved it. Just a minute can make a good amount of difference, so more than that can do wonders.I guess we'll find out how much it does for CURSED, but no matter what the movie was a lot of fun anyway so it won't change that - the only thing it can do is make it better. I wish it had deleted scenes though.
They picked a perfect time to release it on DVD. It will be summer and kids will be out of school so that will help it out in rentals. I'll be buying this baby right away for sure. It was a blast! Sure it's not a "great film," but it's about as fun as a popcorn movie gets. After the poor word-of-mouth I wasn't expecting too terribly much but was pleasantly surprised. I had a lot of fun with it.
Also, the reason Mandy Moore, Skeet Ulrich, etc... weren't in it is because they filmed scenes for it however when the movie went through reshoots they weren't available to do them so they had to re-cast their parts.

My thoughts on CURSED:
CURSED (2005)
It's not some amazing film that will make my top 10 at the end of the year, but it is sure to be one of the most fun times I'll have at the theater all year. It was an absolute blast for what it's worth! Yes, the CGI sucks and there are things to nitpick about, but it has a nice amount of jump scares and couldn't be more entertaining. I saw it in a packed audience opening night and there were plenty of laughs and screams. I didn't hear anything negative on the way out. I was afraid I'd be highly disappointed by this movie, but all of the negative things lowered my expectations and lead to me being very pleasantly surprised.
I had so dang much fun at this movie! It works great as popcorn entertainment. It deserved to do much better than the other horror crap that was released this year. Too bad this one wouldn't have gotten released sooner before everyone was sick of so many horror movies (a new one was released almost every week), leading to this one not doing as well. If it would have come out sooner it could have done quite a bit better. It's a shame because it's a blast and I'd kill for a sequel. I wish they'd do one anyway. I know Wes Craven wouldn't be back to direct but I don't care as long as Kevin Williamson returns to write.
Grade: 8/10 (A-) ----- I normally wouldn't give this high of a rating to something that works as great popcorn entertainment, but it's a personal recent favorite of mine. It's not Million Dollar Baby, but if you're looking for more of a "fun" movie then this is definitely satisfying in that area. It was fun and funny. See it with a group of people. The more the merrier. A movie like this is best with a bunch of people. It's way more fun that way. At least try to go when it would be busiest so you can see it with a good amount of people in attendance. Friday night and Saturday night would likely be best.
It's no SCREAM, that's for sure, but it works on its own. It's the best horror movie I've seen in theaters in awhile. I went to SAW opening weekend because it was Halloween weekend and I wanted to see a horror flick, and I didn't think it was that great at all. It's one of the most overrated movies of 2004. The acting was atrocious by the leads! Plus the movie was just cheesy. It does work as something to laugh at though because the bad acting and cheesy stuff make it quite hilarious. Lions Gate usually releases some great films too ( MAY, LOST & DELIRIOUS, OPEN WATER, THE RULES OF ATTRACTION, and many more) so in comparison this one was especially disappointing and nowhere near as great as most of them. Then the following weekend I sat through THE GRUDGE which was even worse. It was so boring and pointless. It wasn't involving in the least, unlike the movie it couldn't resemble more - THE RING. Now that one was highly engrossing, hypnotic, and creepy - with a mystery that was actually interesting.
THE GRUDGE was just lame and is also overrated. I'd give SAW a 6/10 (C+) and THE GRUDGE a 5/10 (C). I'd highly recommend CURSED over those two. I'd also recommend it over the disappointing THE RING TWO (6/10 or C+).
I plan on seeing it again in theaters. I want to support it and plus I'd just love to see it again. It's too fun! I plan on buying the DVD the day it hits stores for sure. Hopefully it's extras packed...

I will give this movie a rent, and if I like it I will later buy it at Blockbuster when it hits $11.99
Looks very interesting.

Wait a sec...
Okay Mr. Greenwaldt I just had to respond to this. I'm all for giving horror films the benefit of the doubt but this one drew me to my last nerve. No one wanted to like this movie more than I did but it was a literal waste of celluloid.
Saw, The Ring 2, and The Grudge would NOT make my list as any kind of stellar horror films but I would still watch those three 100 times in a row before I would give this one another look. The film was so inept in direction, writing, editing, and performance that it makes me wonder if eveyrone involved doesn't deserve some special commendation for making such a terrible waste of time.
You'd be better off giving your money to some bum on the street to brush your teeth with his finger than to spend it on this film. Seriously. It's not even worth it as a joke rent.
The Amityville Horror remake will still rank as the best horror film to come out in the last few years.

Don't get too ahead of yourself there, the reviews for THE AMITYVILLE HORROR remake are not that great and they say that the film is prtty mediocre... the first one was not that great either, and the only two worthy sequels, THE AMITYVILLE HORROR II: THE POSESSION, and THE AMITYVILLE HORROR III: THE DEAMON were on par with THE GRUDGE and THE RING TWO...

Sorry...I totally worded that wrong (wrote it too late at night). I should have said that it will rank as one of the best remakes of a horror films in the last few years.
I saw Amityville a few days ago and it's LIGHT YEARS ahead of and beyond the original film (which I recently rented on DVD along with the new DVD's of #2 and #3).
While I wouldn't say that the sequels were on par with The Grudge and The Ring (#2 had good atmosphere but a dreadful final 20 minutes and #3 loses impact without the 3-D) I still would rank them better than Cursed.
Sorry for my wording error.

I actually liked this movie and I'm definately getting the unrated DVD. It wasn't scary in the least, but it was really fun.
Ewww floating heads..Jackson looks like an old pedophileish man! Plus, what kind of a tagline is that?
Sucky cover.
WITH SHANNON ELIZABETH?!?!
yeah for like a minute.
she gets her name on the front for that. sad.

They are trying to emulate the scream poster's/ covers so thats why shannon elizabeth is there, just like drew barrymore in scream...i have yet to see this flick, but will once it comes out.
I am the only one wo actually likes the cover art? i think its great it has a nice color, and the cover looks very professionel. And not like a home made cover

I can't believe I'm actually saying this but your review for this makes it sound like something I would actually enjoy. I think I might give this a movie rental. I had very low epectations for it so I didn't end up seeing it in theaters but perhaps I was wrong about the film in one way or another. I mean, your opinions on the other films you mentioned in this review match my own and if you were expecting Cursed to be dissapointing (as I am) maybe I'll walk out suprised. Of course, everyone has a different opinion, but I think I'll check this movie out now. Thanks for giving your input.

THIS MOVIE REALLY SUCKED, I AM A HUGE FAN OF WES CRAVEN, BUT HAVING IT PG 13 FRIENDLY WAS BAD ENOUGH, THEN SEEING A WEREWOLF FLICK THE GIRL OFF WAS THE LOW POINT. IF THEY REALLY WANTED TO SEE A SCARY WEREWOLF THE SHOULD HAVE RENTED GINGER SNAPS OR A AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON
I thought this was pretty good. I'll definitely buying the unrated version. The art looks okay, minus Shannon Elizabeth.

Yeah right! AMITYVILLE won't even be better than CURSED! HIGH TENSION is the one that will be the best horror film of the last few years, unless you count OPEN WATER, which is kind of a horror film but more of a human horror kind of movie and not a regular horror movie. Others that are much better than AMITYVILLE will end up being are MAY and GINGER SNAPS 2.
But HIGH TENSION will be the best horror film this year! No way it won't be! It's hardcore, no holds-barred horror for hardcore horror fans. CURSED isn't a masterpiece or as great as SCREAM, but I had an absolute blast with it and I know many others that did as well. Another one this year that will probably be great is WOLF CREEK. And then of course THE WOODS, from the creator of the great MAY.
AMITYVILLE can't even kill off any of the main human characters. Instead it has to result to brutally killing off an innocent dog, which NEVER EVEN REALLY HAPPENED! If they weren't going to follow what happened then kill off some of this stupid family too!
Anyway, I like the cover art. It's pretty solid. My only complaint is that it should have had Milo Ventimiglia on the cover too, as well as a critic quote.

Anyway, I like the cover art. It's pretty solid. My only complaint is that it should have had Milo Ventimiglia on the cover too, as well as a critic quote.

No problem! But now I totally want to know what you end up thinking about it

ACTUALLY, let me change my mind. I would prefer if Christina's face were just front and center and the others weren't there, and that they kept the cool bottom stuff (like the road and woods, and then the moon in the sky - love the colors). That would be really cool if they did. I think that's what they should do.
