The "digital copy" download included in this is of the original theatrical cut.
I bought the DVD version yesterday.
It does NOT contain the original theatrical version...only the new director's cut. I went through to see if it was hidden as an easter egg and no dice.
Don't ditch your original DVD version if you want the theatrical cut!

EIV own the UK rights, so sadly the wait will probably be a long one.

Like all the above me say: ABOUT GOD DAMN TIME!Mine mine mine mine!
.Please change the cover
An intriging film - almost a hit and mniss afair as it goes through the story - but if it is 15mins longer and has new commentaires i'm there!
This was such an underrated movie. For any sci-fi fans, this is required viewing.
I like the cover but I can't remember this movie so i don't know if it fits. I'm pretty tempted to watch this again.
I loved this film - it was ahead of its time (before the Matrix) and should have smashed box office records.
Shame about the mis-casting of Rufus Sewell in the lead role (which is probably why the film underperformed at the box office).
I hope it gets a Region 2 Blu Ray release.

"Shut it...Down!"
This is hopefully worth the wait. Wasn't this originally supposed to come out at the end of 2006? Anyway, I'm excited, but the cover art is waay to bright for my taste.

not sure about a director's cut but with Part 4 coming this year, i'm sure the original 3 will be re-released and also released on blu-ray.
You know, I could care less about the others because they are absolute embarrastments, but the original is one of my top 10 suspenseful/teen slasher film, and a Blu-ray release calls for it, no doubt.
But yeah it propably wont be or have a Director's Cut

That artwork has hints of a visual concept used in the promos for Mirrormask!
Never heard of it..but the hype sounds good..so Iwill blind buy.
I am so please this is coming to BD so early in the formats history, I thought it would take a lot longer to arrive.
Re; Sleeve artwork, as long as the film is presented with the highest quality sound and picture I don't really care what the cover looks like, it's not like I am going to hang it on a wall and admire it for years, it will be filed on a shelf like all my other stuff. Do people really buy a book for it's cover?

hopefully not a lot because I loved this movie as it was.
Too many poor Directors Cuts at the moment, such as Payback and Superman 2 which are much worse than the originals IMO.

Never understood what was so spectacular about this film. I've seen it 2 or 3 times and always thought it was pretty mediocre, perhaps just a tad bit better (i.e., smarter) than anything coughed up on the Sci-fi channel....
Don't have this movie yet. Glad I waited.
Can't wait for this one! Brilliant film.
awesome film. saw it in the theater first. can't wait to watch the DC.
Alex Proyas takes the best stories and makes them into dull movies but this is his best work. 4/10 Still, it's not something I'd ever watch again in a long time. But if I were less informed and saw that stunning cover art I would immediatley rent the movie.
Can't say I'm thrilled with the artwork (why none of the leads, and that sure is a bright dark city!), but I'll definitely be double-dipping with this movie. One of my faves.
I doubt it's going to happen, but I do hope they change the font!

Oh, and that's some supremely awesome artwork, by the way.
He sure did, he has mentioned tons of times that he has been reworking Dark City for years to get it the way he wanted it, and not the studio.
He also mentioned he reshot alot of stuff on the special effects front. He didn't have the budget to have he SPFX cleaned up back then nor the time, but he has since finally been able to reshoot alot of stuff the way he wanted....this will truly be a dignified directors cut, not a cash in. This is something hes wanted to do since this movie first came out.

I'm impressed and surprised by this release. Pre-word buzz has it that they re-did the visual effects and completely re-did the music score. "Dark City" was one of the very first DVDs I purchased 10 years ago now (wow, was it that long?!) and though that version did have some extras, and was at the cutting edge at the time, it is now time to give the film a Special Edition the likes of which are now possible. The cover art is interesting and a radically different direction than the previous cover yet I still like it. Except for the old man - his placement kind of ruins the symmetry but overall, I like it. I certainly hope this is at least a 2-Discer! Definitely picking this one up.

been waiting to see this movie and glad i can now watch it in high-def for my first viewing...
I saw Alex Proyas a the Sitges Film Festival last year (October 2007) and he mentioned this as a lot of people asked as it has been a long time coming. The have redone some of the special effects and the additions to the movie (and a little removal) have made the film quite different and true to his original vision. I can´t wait for this.

WOOOT! Been waiting :D
movie sucked, sry.
According to another site, there are three commentaries included and the directors cut runs an additional 15 minutes in length (96m vs 111m).
Yet another website that interviewed David Goyer had him saying that he was interviewed for an extensive, hour-long documentary for this release as well.

i never knew there was a director's cut as well, but i will be adding this too my collection
Didn't know there was a director's cut.
Artwork is good but that font sucks. Great Movie, and may push me to dive into blu-ray. You can always count on new line to have great audio/video on their discs. Well this and Back to the Future which is rumored to be in the works for next year.
Highres artwork added
About fricking time.

Great film. Very glad to see this coming to blu-ray. The artwork is atrocious, though!
I had the original release in a snapper case, and within the past six months I re-bought that release in an amaray case. I wouldn't have done it if I'd known this was coming out. I might hold on to both copies of the film when I do finally pick this up.
YES!!! I have been torturing myself for years as I pass by the cheap barabones Dark City in hopes that one day the rumored DC would come out, man I am so glad I waited! this film is a work of art!
Always loved this film, definitely will pick this up if this is a true director's cut. Now they just need to get the personal strifes settled over at Dimension and get a director's cut of Proyas' best film to date, The Crow.
Not sure about the artwork....kinda bright for a film called DARK City! I loved this movie, the original "Platinum Edition" was a great DVD with two great commentaries and it's been around $5 for years now. If the Director's Cut is actually more than 2 minutes longer than the theatrical version I'll pick it up.
yes, i was thinking the same about the "Batman Anthology" font....
i would've liked the cover a whole lot more without the giant bald dude.

Any news on the Region 2 release date? Or do we have to wait ages again like we did for others like this? Such as Sin City, AvP, Big, Con Air etc.
The original DVD cover art from before is much better, am not digging that font at all. But anyways if New Line has this coming, then am sure there is a Final Destination somewhere in the works for a BD release. :crossing fingers:

Yes! I'm definitely getting the Blu-Ray, this is one of those great films that is not widely known...
I hope they include / recorded a new Roger Ebert commentary. He always does excellent tracks, and I'v yet to hear his from the original DVD.
About damn time! A double dip I don't even have to think about saying yes to!
way to use the Batman DVD font.
I've always wanted to like this movie because I hear great things but still...yeah I don't really care for it, stylistically I find it redundant and annoying but it has moments of brilliance, perhaps this director's cut will change my mind.
