The way the directors intended for these films to be viewed, with the fake trailers!
And Kill Bill TOO!
I agree with you.

^Well said!^
Have they put the full version out overseas in Blu-ray yet?
I will HAVE to by Death Proof.
awesome, i knew not buying Planet Terror on DVD was a good idea, even when i saw it for 10$ and was so tempted.
while i enjoyed the whole concept of the complete Grindhouse movie, Death Proof just bored me out of my skull and so i'll be perfectly happy to simply own the one movie i did like. i mean the only thing i'll be missing is some of those fake trailers so its all good.

Individually, for me, Death Proof was a miss and Planet Terror was great fun. I would love to get these as a combined movie on one disk, but for now will make due with putting in Death Proof, watching act 1 and 2 and then putting in Planet Terror.
Where the F**K is the 6 Disc Set that Japan got?
They added film grain, scratches, burns, off color to these films to look like bad, cheaply made 70's movies. I see no point in have them on Bluray at 1080p
I'll stick my my standard dvd's.

while i understand what you're saying in this particular case. i dont get people who say that about many movies coming to the format. blu-ray isnt some fancy special format made for specific movies, its supposed to be the next format to replace DVD. so of course the point is to eventually bring every movie to blu-ray.
as for these movies though, while i loved the whole "old picture" look they gave them, they still looked like modern movies with scratches just added on top. the picture itself didnt look like old film, had that crispness that movies have had since the early/mid 90s. so having them in blu-ray will make that under layer, if you wanna call it that, look much better.

I have both Steelbooks from Best Buy, so I will upgrade and keep the bonus discs for the Steelbooks.
Now we need Sin City and Pulp Fiction!

Already sold the SD DVDs to make way for these puppies.
You got me so excited by the title and then I realized you were lumping them into one thread.
I too will wait for the combined movie set.
Where's the damn theatrical cut? >.<
As others have already pointed out, I see no reason behind this release if they are not combined and have the fake commercials and trailers added back in. The only reason for this is for those who have yet to purchase the films and want them in high-definition. While annoying, these releases will be money makers like the Kill Bill Blu-rays Disc releases are. I personally will hold onto my DVD editions of both Kill Bills and both Grindhouse films and patiently await the box sets that will get released in 2020. That's my prediction for when they'll come out.

the weinstein's need to milk as much money from these first before "deciding the time is right" for the full shabang.

hated "Death Proof"
loved "Plante Terror"
loved "Plante Terror"

You don't watch grindhouse double bills in your living room, it was a truly theatrical experience. Regardless, Weinstein Co has said that the full program is on the way eventually, but it's NOT like these separated releases are against either director's wishes.

while i totally agree with what you said, the thing is that at least over here, they air the full-on 3hr thing on television regularly. so i can understand people expecting it on dvd/blu-ray.

My heart stopped when I saw this. Then it resumed when I saw it was just further studio raping of A SINGLE classic.
Big fat NOOOOOOO THANKS to this one! Or two, as it were.

This is retarded.

Finally! i could not agree with you more. i never understood the people that said "why would they bring that movie over to blu ray? its so old" because, as you mentioned, the format is not to make movies like incredible (although this is often the case) but it is just the new movie format, so its inevitable that most movies, new and old, will be released. although in cases where an old movie is already owned on regular dvd, the upgrade would not seem as necessary unless there are some new features included.
But i remember when "A Christmas Carol" was released and my friends were saying "why would they release that? its such an old movie, its not going to benefit from Blu Ray". but back then they had a point, because it was a time when Blu ray was still competing with HD-DVD.
my rant is over.

After hearing all the talk about liking Planet Terror over Death Proof, I was expecting the same once I watched them. But I was surprised when I actually liked Death Proof more. But I already own Best Buy's three-disc steelbooks (with slipcovers over them, acquired elsewhere), so I'm only buying this again as the original theatrical version. Same for the combined version of Kill Bill.
Oh Christ. Goddamned Weinstein's can suck a cock. I'm gettin so pissed off at these s**tty releases. Grow a f**kin pair and give us what you've been talking about for so long.
Assholes.
Assholes.
Well I, for one, am glad these are sold individually. "Planet Terror" was great while "Death Proof" was just one long endless talking yawn fest.
Geez, seems like almost everything that's been announced on Blu-ray lately, I already have on DVD......
Death Proof gets longer? because it didn't have enough mindless chatter from annoying women
Maybe these are the "restored" versions that Rodriguez was talking about?

at the risk of coming off like a smartass....maybe thats because blu-ray is still new and many movies havent been released on the format yet?

Getting Any part of GRINDHOUSE in blu- ray seems nonsensical to me. The picture quality is supposed to be subpar.
