We've attached the official package artwork for each of the releases below:

Quote: Death Race 2 takes place in the very near future, as the United States economy begins to decline and violent crime starts to spiral out of control. To contain the growing criminal population, a vast network of for-profit, private prisons springs up, creating a lawless subculture ruled by gangs, cold-blooded killers and sociopaths. The worst of these prisons is Terminal Island, where inmates fight each other in a highly rated televised death match, where there are no rules, and the winner is the one who survives the gladiator-style, no-holds-barred competition. Convicted cop-killer Carl Lucas (Luke Goss) arrives on the Island to serve his life sentence just as ruthlessly ambitious television personality September Jones evolves the death match into the ultimate reality show – Death Race. A brutal prison yard demolition derby that pits prisoners against each other in steel reinforced, heavily armed vehicles, Death Race offers the winner the ultimate prize: freedom — if he can survive to enjoy it.

I don't like the cover, but I wonder how the film will end since this is supposed to be a prequel.

If he's the guy that turns into Frankenstein, then this is probably going to be his first race.
No Joan Allen this time to add class to it!
One question, Why!!! & who is the chump trying to look like Jason Statham?

he played Nomak in Blade 2 and the prince in Hellboy 2. and of course was part of the lame 80s cheesy band Bros.

Rental for sure. Trailer made it look better than Stathams.
Look at all those actors' names! And this is a DTV-movie!
So, if he's the one that played the Prince in Hellboy 2 and the reaper in Blade 2, that's fine. I like he's acting. But why he's only playing in movies with "2" in its title?

Love the first. Can't wait for this one.
i was about to "trash" the guy on the cover trying to (sorta) look like Statham until i realized it was Luke Goss. Luke is a really good actor. i will now check this out. i was about to write it off but now i won't. and i agree. the awesome Joan Allen in the original added an immense amount of class to the movie. she's incredible (as is the uber hot Statham).
OK, folks...it seems you all don't know the story behind this film. It's a PREQUEL...not a sequel. Secondly, it tells the story of the original Frankenstein driver (that got killed in the opening teaser of the original film...remember?) so having Statham in this film (who took the place of the killed Frankenstein) would make no sense, now would it? It was originally billed to have a subtitle, IIRC, something to the effect of Frank, or something like that, so maybe that's where the confusion comes in here. And if you look carefully at the large pic of the cover on this entry's BD.com page, this Luke Goss guy looks a lot like Statham anyway, which may explain why the prison's wardon brought in Statham to replace Frankenstein when he was killed.
That said, I loved the first movie, and this movie looks like more of the same, so I'm buying it Day One. And I love how the cover artwork is very similar to the original.

I laugh at this Rated and Unrated nonsense. It's a straight to video movie, just put out the damn unrated version, there's never anything in it that wouldn't get a rating anyway. Oh that's right, it's all about the marketing, isn't it?

Agreed. Not like this was even intended to go to theaters.
I will admit that this has my interest because the first one was very well done. Sean Bean definitely looks like Jason Statham.

Well caught - he seems to only be in sequels....
I'll give it a go - the first was a mindless fun film so we shall see....

Hmmm... are you actually referring to Luke Goss???
