Quote: Terminal Island: The very near future. The world’s hunger for extreme sports and reality competitions has grown into reality TV bloodlust. Now, the most extreme racing competition has emerged and its contestants are murderous prisoners. Tricked-out cars, caged thugs and smoking-hot navigators combine to create a juggernaut series with bigger ratings than the Super Bowl. The rules of the Death Race are simple: Win five events, and you’re set free. Lose and you’re road kill splashed across the Internet. International action star Jason Statham leads the action-thriller’s cast as three-time speedway champion Jensen Ames, an ex-con framed for the murder of his wife. Forced to don the mask of the mythical driver Frankenstein, a Death Race crowd favorite who seems impossible to kill, Ames is given an easy choice by Terminal Island’s ruthless Warden Hennessey (Joan Allen): Suit up and drive or never see his little girl again. His face hidden by a hideous mask, he must win the insane three-day challenge in order to gain freedom. But to claim the prize, Ames must survive a gauntlet of the most vicious criminals—including nemesis Machine Gun Joe (Tyrese Gibson)—in the country’s toughest prison. Trained by his coach (Ian McShane) to drive a monster Mustang V8 Fastback outfitted with 2 mounted mini-guns, flamethrowers

Haha, no kidding. So how long until people stop going to theatres entirely since now we can see longer versions of movies on DVD?

How long until people stop going to see this kind of c**p in theaters and start to support quality films like Traitor. which only got very limited release - almost straight to dvd/BR ?

How long until people stop going to see this kind of c**p in theaters and start to support quality films like Traitor. which only got very limited release - almost straight to dvd/BR ?This exactly the kind of poor attitude that will prevent people from seeing the smaller movies on others' recommendations. Just because Traitor may be a better movie doesn't make it necessary to bash Death Race, whether or not you feel it's justified. I didn't like Death Race either (except for Joan Allen), but in recommending something like The Signal or In Bruges I feel no need to step on the films that other people enjoy. Just because Death Race is trash doesn't mean that's bad, or that it's a bad thing to enjoy. That's all it's intended to do, be enjoyable.

I myself don't enjoy watching trash. But that's just me.

Blame the studio for poorly promoting "Traitor". And not the people who go see "Death Race". Personally, I watch all types of films if they appeal to me. I will admit I prefer low budget and indie films. But I like Jason Statham so I caught "Death Race" at a matinee and enjoyed it for what it was. I wanted to see "Traitor" as well. But the damn thing was in and out of the theaters so fast. I didn't even know it was released yet.

Unrated... how did I know?
poor joan allen.
Cool, this isn't really the movie with a deep story and epic feel to be honest, this is more the cool action movie with a backstory but with the action as it's selling point, wich to me is good for once in a while. Definit purchase for me.
One of the my favorite guilty pleasures from this past summer at the movies. A very fun action-packed movie all around. I am definitely purchasing it.
next to "Dark Knight" this was the 2nd best time I had in the theaters. predictable and very fun
Looked absolutely HORRID! I will pass.
Saw it at an advanced screening with a friend, just to kill the night and it was stupid mindless entertainment. Just wish I had some popcorn and candy to go with it because this is the kind of movie you get those items for. I will only watch the unrated version if Natalie Martinez gets naked, because sadly that was one thing that could have made the movie better. Hell, I'll take some Joan Allen nudity. Hahaha.
This was probably Paul W.S. Anderson's best movie though, even though that's not saying much at all, it was miles better than Alien vs. Predator.

wanted to catch this in theaters. Heard it was cheesy but the action was awesome. Ill rent it and if I like it Ill buy it previously viewed
What can I say... Paul W.S. Anderson's masterpiece to date. I know that's not saying much, but it was very entertaining.

I disagree. I would say that Paul W.S. Anderson's best film is Event Horizon hands down. I initially had little interest in this film, but a remake of a 70's David Carradine/Sly Stallone/Roger Corman flick has got to be at least a little good. Also, an unrated cut was a no-brainer. I hate how Universal has been putting the "two versions of the movie" "sticker" on covers recently. Doomsday, The Strangers, now this. It is so annoying because it is not actually a sticker, it is permanent.

I had a blast watching this blissfully retarded movie on the big screen. Can't wait to see the unrated cut on Blu!
I can't wait for Death Race on Blu-ray. Natalie Martinez, the girl who played Jason Statham's navigator in the movie, is so HOT!!
definate Blu-ray buy for me, i thought this movie was great
Well, since it's Unrated, then sure I'll definitely probably look into maybe buying it. I wonder what David Carradine thinks of this updated version of the classic Deathrace 3K?
I have been dying to see this ever since it was in theaters. Definite rental.
Pretty good movie. Terrible artwork though.
Looks alright. My only interest in wanting to watch this is Jason Statham.
And yeah, that cover sucks.

I'm surprised this isn't getting the Digital Copy treatment...
I enjoyed this movie a lot. This isn't a cinematic masterpiece, and I went in expecting absolutely nothing, but came out having really enjoyed myself. Not every movie has to be a deep, thought provoking, critic's top ten list, art film. This was just fun, and I'm very much considering a purchase when this is released.
Artwork is pretty bad though, they should've used the poster (as usual).

I have never seen "Event Horizon" but I have heard it is his best, so maybe one day I will check it out, but having not seen that film, "Death Race" remains his best to me.

In the ad it says, digital copy, in the little Blu-ray blurb on the bottom left.
