This extended cut better be the unrated version. I'll be damned if I'm buying the region 1 version with the s**tty Live Free or Die Hard title.

The USA Blu-ray is the Unrated cut no doubt the UK Blu-ray will be too. They're not allowed to release it Unrated (Thankfully, that one's a great idea) so hence it's an Extended Cut.
Where are all the extras for the Blu-ray release though? It makes no sense they'd remove extras for the Blu-ray release.
At least the title is the decent one though.

The US Blu-ray isn't unrated

Tom's quite right - its been confirmed by Fox that the blu-ray will only offer the theatrical cut, which has many HD folks up in arms!

All of you people are mental. Live Free or Die Hard is a much better title than Die Hard 4.0. 'Zero' thought went into that.
who cares about the title when the movie is deplorable?
TOTALLY agree, Chris!
Live Free Or Die Hard is an excellent title, as it sums up the movie's plot and John McClane's attitude to life, period.
The lame 4.0 title has MADE me want the region 1 version.
Why do they dumb down titles for the international market?
It’s quite patronizing and annoying.
"who cares about the title when the movie is deplorable?"
That's your opinion and completely irrelevant to this discussion.

I like the 4.0 title more and wth? De BR edition doesn't even get all the extra's of the 2 disc. Not buying this untill the Unrated edition comes out on BR.

Its also a reference to a quote or motto from American history or something as well, I think. I always liked the title, and its a clever play on words too.

But 4.0 has more to do with the film. It's about computers, so the "point zero/oh" works too.
And most international audiences would be lost by the "Live Free" bit, hence it being cut out.

I enjoyed this movie more than any of the other sequels. Definitely a movie made for the times.
What if the international title was just Die hard 4? What would you prefer then?
I really don't dig the 'Live free or...' thing.

I also prefer the US title. I definately look forward to the 2-disc unrated cut. I felt that for a die hard film it was dumbed down compared to the previous 3. Especially the loss of swearing. So, hopefully it will be put right with the unrated. We shall see. I did really enjoy this otherwise.
Die Soft
I hope "Ultimate Action Edition" translates as all the swearing and violence put back in. But the 15 cert on the artwork worries me, hopefully it applies to the Theatrical cut. Plus, the Willis/Wiseman commentary better be on it, I'm sure it is. Def the best of the sequels in my opinion. Best thrill ride this summer.
Die Hard 4.0 is a better title and actually fit since it dealt with computer and whatnot....i remember this was the rumored title a while back when the script hit the net and all....never understood why they changed it for north america.....
i mean if they used it for overseas, "they" must have liked it a little..so yeah...what gives? lol

As cool as Die Hard 4.0 sounds, Live Free or Die Hard sounds much better to me. I just hate sequels that have a number tacked to the title (Rush Hour 2, Lethal Weapon 3). Regardless what the title is, this movie kicked ass!
Die Hard 4.0 just sounds lame and panders to the plot of computer hackers in the film.
Live Free or Die Hard is a bad ass title.

NO DTS!!!!! THe US versions have it.
The artwork really sucks...looks empty.
I thought it was a pretty good movie - I won't worry about getting a movie if it has a bad title or not if it is a good movie.
I will wait for an un-rated cut...

Wait a tick...
...are you telling us that Fox are getting cheap by not including DTS tracks on UK releases?! The tight-fisted b@stards! Fox are usually pretty reliable with this - we're not sure about getting the R1 release - firstly because of the silly title and secondly because we have all-too vivid memories of the absolutely atrocious transfer of Die Hard With A Vengeance...

It might have DTS, but you know what UK press releases are like.

That would be Patrick Henry: Give me Liberty or Give me Death!

Patrick Henry may very well of said that but the title 'Live Free Or Die Hard' is a reference to New Hampshire's State motto 'Live free or die'. I feel that LFODH is easily the better title, especially after McTiernan's second flick made the departure from the lazy numerical labeling of sequels (it also slyly ignores Harlin's DH 2 by not referencing it in the script, unlike 'That Nakatomi thing in LA' and McClane is curiously still at the NYPD). To me 4.0 moniker smacks of lameness giving the time between instalments (version-point-oh...yeah, I get it...computers). Probably just anxious worrying by Fox's international marketing department that we wouldn't join the dots or that LFODH doesn't underline that it's a DH sequel enough. Personally I think it would of suited part four's 21st century updating of the franchise to run with the stand alone title in all territories, 'with a vengeance' didn't hurt it.
As for the UK 'Ultimate Action Edition' of DH4.0, I'm taking no chances (will it have the commentary various sites differ) and have ordered the R1 'Unrated' edition not least for the great cover art.
I still remember the original 15 cert UK theatrical release of DH 2, butchered unashamedly by the BBFC from the US cut it suffered yet again more cuts on it's first VHS release (Violence trimmed and harsher swearing just dropping out to silence mid-sentence, I ---- you not). However it still managed to retain its theatrical 15 cert on video. Thankfully (for some odd reason not explained or even marketed by Fox) the Widescreen VHS version was 18 cert and completely untouched from the US cut. Confused? I certainly was at the time. Again, thankfully, it's the 18 cert version of DH2 we now enjoy on UK DVD releases.
I'd like to buy DH4.0 on region 2 (Title really isn't a deal breaker you understand, the movie delivered! By the way I don't need swearing in a DH movie rather I expect it from a DH movie, there is a difference) but due to Fox's previous mishandling of DH2 content I have no faith in the idea that we'll be treated to an un-meddled 'Ultimate Action Cut' that measures up to whatever's in the US 'Unrated' offering.
Okay, this thread may have died (hard or otherwise) but for anyone that's interested I have just read an IMDB Forum post (by a guy with the foresight to e-mail the BBFC about the 'standard' and 'Ultimate Action Edition's of DH4.0 R2 releases.)
Apparently the 'Ultimate' 2 Disc-er cut is 8 secs shorter than it's PG-13 style single disc release. The real news however is that the action/violence IS upped, with added 'Bone-cracking sound effects' & 'Blood Spurts' along with much stronger Die Hard language, estimated at around 30plus 'F's and several 'MF's and variations. Check out IMDB DH4 threads or go to the BBFC website and look at the difference between the General Information for the two differing DVD releases. Oh...and it's the same submitted version as the US R1 'Unrated' release...aaaaand more features to boot, nearly a month earlier!!!
Holy f**k what a diatribe. Anyway, I don't think the movie is good enough to give a s**t regarding the title or the DVD features. Hell, I'll tape it off Sky some time down the line.
Seriously dudes.
Seriously dudes.
Personally, I couldn't give a s**t what it was called now. I don't have time for extra sylabals! I just call it Die Hard 4...always have, always will.

We have been in possession of a R2 review copy for a couple of weeks and we can confirm that it DOES have a DTS track.
We have the two-disc version (we finished our review yesterday), but we'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference if what we had WAS the extended version.
Supposedly only the longer version has the audio commentary with Willis, Wiseman and editor Nicholas De Toth, which was present on the copy we reviewed. We couldn't tell the difference.

This month's Empire review seemed to be the same. No mention of a difference, disc one being the single disc theatrical cut bundled with the disc 2 extras for review. Very odd.
