Sony brings forward the releasedate for the film by a week to December 22nd
Title: District 9 (IMDb)
Starring: Sharlto Copley
Released: 22nd December 2009
SRP: $36.95 (2-Disc DVD)
Further Details:
Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced 1-disc DVD ($28.96), 2-disc DVD ($36.95), and 2-disc Blu-ray ($39.95) releases of District 9 for the 22nd December. Extras on the 1-disc DVD will include a director's commentary, a 3-part documentary ("The Alien Agenda: A Filmmaker's Log"), and a Koobus Big Gun feature. The 2-disc DVD and Blu-ray releases will include all that, along with additional featurettes ("Metamorphosis: The Transformation of Wikus", "Innovation: Acting and Improvisation", "Conception and Design: Creating the World of District 9", "Alien Generation: Visual Effects").

Quote: From producer Peter Jackson (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy) and director Neill Blomkamp comes a startlingly original sciencefiction thriller that "soars on the imagination of its creators" (Peter Travers, Rolling Stone). With stunning special effects and gritty realism, the film plunges us into a world where the aliens have landed... only to be exiled to a slum on the fringes of Johannesburg. Now, one lone human discovers the mysterious secret of the extraterrestrial weapon technology. Hunted and hounded through the bizarre back alleys of an alien shantytown, he will discover what it means to be the ultimate outsider on your own planet.

We opted for G.I. Joe instead of this. Wish we hadn't.

I'm surprised they're not including the original short.
Just hope will do, as always, the blu-ray region free
I was surprised by this, and really loved it!
It's exceptional in all areas and IMHO one of the best of this summer, and they did it without any big stars or massive budgets, now that's quite an achievement. So far, this has been a great year for Sci-fi movies, Moon was outstanding and so was this, definitely a day 1 purchase.

What no deleted scenes?!? There're apparently loads of scenes that were shot as part of the 'improv' shooting style they used, including the Prawn interview sequence that's in the trailer but not the movie...
I loved District 9 and was surprised at how much I liked it. Although I'm disappointed in the substandard extras and the release date. While the extras are okay, I expected a plethora of them, especially since the film was a success financially and critically. I am sad at the release date because it's after Christmas, which wasn't such a smart move on Sony's part. I also would have liked the short included. Sorry, for my rambling lol.
District 9 is tied with Inglourious Basterds for best film of the year for me. Saw it twice in theaters. One of the most original films I've seen in a long time. Just incredible.
2-disk DVD, well it looks like SOME companies are still giving DVD users lots of features!
Was D9 released in 3D?
Best Film of The Year, the most fun at the movies as a matter of fact.
District 9 was not 3D.
I was impressed at how well they made the aliens look on a low budget and shooting it documentary style, but it didn't blow me away. No desire to see it again. G.I. Joe on the other hand...

Excellent movie. I'm pleased that Sony isn't skimping on the extras for one of their blockbusters, for once.
It's odd that Sony is one of the few companies that still give DVD all or most of the same extras as Blu-Ray when they invented the BR format. You would expect WB and Sony to have opposite stances.
Surely to have DTS-HD ::drools::
Loved this movie but releasing it this late, C'MON!
i love how they advertise the "3 part documentary". i bet is like 30mins at most all told. lol

Agreed and I hope they'll reconsider that decision because the short is quite great (and astounding in its effects even more so than the film considering it was done on an even smaller budget) all in of itself. Called "Alive in JoBurg," check it out on YouTube.
Helmer Neill Blomkamp is a new writer/director to keep an intensely-close eye on!

i have to admit i didn't like this movie either. it's been online for months (a dvd rip of it) and i tried 3 different times to get into it but just didn't like it.
Best Science Fiction movie of the year!!! This movie is so good! Great story and even better characters. The CGI is fantastic too. My second favorite film, first is The Hurt Locker.
Loved this movie. Cant wait for it.
I assume only humans will be allowed to rent or purchase this. :D
AWE-SOME! First day pick-up for me!
I just enjoyed this movie so much... my wife did too.. and she hates sci-fi movies.
