Quote: Visionary filmmaker Spike Lee is at the top of his game in this film about a racially divided neighborhood facing a scorching summer heat wave. On the hottest day of the year, the Bedford-Stuyvesant area of Brooklyn becomes a crucible for the wide-ranging racial, social and economic beliefs of its residents. During a 24-hour period that changes lives forever, the neighborhood’s tenuous equilibrium boils over into a showdown between longtime business owner Sal (Danny Aiello) and the neighborhood’s African-American majority. In a slyly funny and riveting expose of racial tensions in the inner city, Lee unflinchingly confronts profoundly sensitive issues as violence threatens to explode against a throbbing musical backdrop.

Does this mean the Criterion Edition is OOP?

I'll do the right thing and pick this up on Blu-ray day one.
What're Sal & Mookie doing on the red carpet?
hmm...i've got the awesome criterion dvd, but it's tempting to check out a blu-ray transfer.
Surprisingly so, ive never heard of this movie, HAHA. Universal should just get over their HD DVD to Blu-ray catalogs already instead of giving us this. Where is Atonement or Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind when we need them?
There doesnt appear to be any Criterion extras so I think the Criterion is safe.

I will too, and pass on this DVD and any Blu-Ray.

Already got the Criterion, but I would still be willing to get the Blu-ray if it has a nicer transfer and lossless audio.....
I'll stick with my Criterion, as well. Miracle at St. Anna makes a great frisbee or drink coaster, by the way

According to the reported spec rundown, this DVD contains all of the Criterion extras except "Introduction to the Supplements", "Back to Bed-Stuy" (about 5m), "Lee's Final Word" (about 6m), "Fight the Power" music video (long version, about 7m) with Lee intro, and the booklet. Everything else is here, plus a new commentary by Lee, a new anniversary documentary, and a reel of newly-discovered deleted scenes. That said, I don't know that the Criterion is going OOP, but this is what is reportedly included.
I'll probably just stick to my Criterion release. It's transfer still holds up.
Awesome.

Eternal Sunshine hits blu-ray in Canada on June 2nd, but no extras will be on the disc...

The "reel of newly-discovered deleted scenes" is intruiging. But not enough for a double-dip. I'm sure they were all worth cutting.
A classic. Although this is shown on TV all the time.
