IF THERE WAS A CASE FOR COMMENTARYS
I do not know if this is a bad movie or not. I have not seen it and I do not know who has. For those of you who don't know This movie was dumped by the studio and so they made another "Exorcist Movie" that was released last year. Now I would love a documentary on why the studo dumped this movie. I would like to see the director and producers talk about this. It is nice that there will be an audio comentary with the director. Let's see if he talks about the movie on the commentary or about studio dumping this!

This version was great. Made up for all the mistakes of the past Exorcist films.
And it's a HELL of a lot better than that piece of garbage done by Renny Harlin.

More Harlin haters, blah blah blah. I found that both versions sucked, myself.
I sure hated the Harlin version. But then I'm not a fan of the series in general so I don't know if I would like this one either. I might give it a rent at some point.
Heres what Roger Ebert had to say about the film:
"A milestone in movie history. Not a "director's cut" but a different director and a different film. It's a strong, true, and intelligent film that kept me facinated and terrified from beginning to end."
I guess its a hate it or love it type of thing.

I haven't seen either, so I'm looking forward to being able to compare both.
Looking forward to it
The original "the Exorcist" is on my top ten all time favorite movies list...the sequels are hit or miss at best but I'm really looking forward to seeing this as Schrader's an interesting director and I'm sure it'll be worth a look. The Renny Harlin version was ok but instantly forgettable.
I hated the Exorcist: Beginning, but I heard this was better than the original Beginning
RottenTomatoes scores:
The Beginning -- 10% (3.5/10)
Dominion -- 25% (4.7/10)
So don't expect a revelation of a film.

I want to see this movie even though I haven't seen the Harlin version either.
nice cover though. I do agree the film should have an audio commentary

Well, I love both A) Bad movies and B) Alternate versions of movies, so this sounds like killing 2 birds with one stone...

Hopefully this was better than the Renny Harlin verison cause lets face it Renny Harlin has did a lot of bad movies except for Die Hard 2, I'll give him that cause that was a awesome movie.
I am a big fan of William Peter Blatty's original novel and William Friedkin's film adaptation of "The Exorcist." Both deliver first-class chills even today. I am glad that the studio is finally allowing Paul Schrader's version of the prequel to see the light of day. I haven't liked any of the sequels in this franchise but I have respect for some of Mr. Schraders other work so I will definitely be picking this one up.
Maybe they nees to release both in a cheap box set together
Don't forget Cliffhanger, that was awesome too !!
not needed. Its not much different from the other version...
OCTOBER WILL BE A FULLY LOADED MONTH, MY SHELF WILL BE ALSO LOADED WITH COOL DVDs!!! I CAN'T WAIT

Considering the script I've read, I find myself doubting that.

From what I understand, a lot of it depends on what kind of movie you expect when you see it. I've read reviews that said it was a terrible horror movie and not scary at all. At the same time, I've read reviews that say it's an amazing study of a character who has lost his faith.
From what I've read though, it's not a typical horror movie, more of a dark drama. There is very little of what we normally associate with a horror film.
I, for one, am looking forward to seeing it.

Good on you, mate. I was more referring to the Exorcist 4:1 draft by Caleb Carr and William Wisher. If you can find that one on the internet, let me know.

Well, I haven't read that, but i HAVE read the quotes about Caleb Carr not being happy that Paul Schrader massively rewrote the script Carr wrote with Wisher, so I don't know how accurate a measure that script would be of the final product.

Judging Schrader's superb offering depends on various factors - mostly on the viewer's IQ.

Carr's a whiner. He's also said the only thing he maintained from William Wisher's original draft (which I also have), titled Exorcist: Dominion, was the Nazi opening scene, and that most definitely isn't true either.
