"The rise & fall & rebirth" & the death again. The fact that the film bombed at the box office resulted in Whedon saying that "there will be no sequel." The franchise is dead, again. So, really, the fans didn't save it for long. I enjoyed Serenity, but I couldn't get into the series Firefly. I've seen it a dozen times, fans can't save a franchise alone - it needs the support of the general public as well. Star Trek is proof of that.

I didn't care for the whole Firefly thing either. And I'm a big sci-fi fan. The whole "western in outer space" thing just didn't grab me. I think I liked it the first time when it was a cartoon called Bravestarr.
As far as this fan-produced production...*zzzzzzzz* is it over yet? *zzzzzzzzz*

I love Firefly and Serenity, and will definatly be getting a copy of this. I don't post that often on here, but I read the updates daily. I only tend to post whenever it's something I care strongly about. And this would be one of them. It kills me when I see members telling others to go get a life, due to them showing their love for a film or telivision show. I mean isn't that why we all are here, becuase of our love for DVDs. We get enough badmouthing from people in the real world, let's have at least one place we can proclaim our geekdom and not get blasted for it. Thanx

Yeah, rabid fans of anything, be it religion, political ideology, or a tv show or movies really put me off, and I don't feel like I'm alone in this. I'd seen and own DVD copies of everything of Whedon's prior to Serenity (including Alien Resurrection) and avoided seeing Serenity at the movies as I was just nauseated by rabid fans. I just wanted to wait until it dies down and I could stop looking at movie and dvd news sites and talkbacks without rabid religious fans turning off the population. Rabid idealists need to take a breath and get some perspective. I mean on tv.com I see people spamming forums with some BS with "Veronica Mars is Awesome. Please Join the Veronica Mars Religion. We have so far donated dvd sets to 500 public libraries to spread our religion. Please join us". I'm not kidding here - the actually have groups active on tv.dot.com that purchase and donate sets of veronica mars to libraries to spread their "religion". It is nuts. It is sad. Sure I really wish Firefly had managed to have 7 seasons like Buffy. But I'm not arrogant enough to feel like I'm obliged to convert people to my way of thinking.

If enjoying "Serenity" makes me a geek, then I'm a geek. I've never really watched the show but I did enjoy the film.
And if namecalling gets you off, then I'm sure you're satisfied.
I can never understand posts that merely show off someone's ability to be anonymously snarky. Why? I really want to know. No s**t you're entitled to your opinion, but why take the time to tell people that they're stupid for liking something?

I couldnt agree more. This is a fan site for people who love DVD's period. People that come on here and bash other people for liking a movie are just plain ignorant. As for Serenity, loved it. By far favorite Sci-fi movie in a long long time and had much better acting than the 3 new Star Wars flicks. Ido however think that this whole thing about what an amazing feat the fans did by getting this movie made is being taken a bit too far but thats just my opinion.

I can't understand why people like to bash everything. If I'm not interested in, let say The OC, I won't click on any related new, only to bash people who enjoyed it, or to say "bah... I hate this" or something stupid like that.
But what makes me laugh hard, is when that people say "you rabid fans, get a life. I hate when rabid fans do..." blah, blah, blah... Don't you realize that now you are a rabid fan too? A bashing rabid fan? XD XD I don't know what's worse.
So now that you are officially rabid fans, I'm able to say this: Get lost and get a life.

And Gabe - tsk tsk
great series, great film and it's far from over as DVD sales WILL continue the franchise.
Trekkies rip off? are you mad ? Firefly/Serenity is nothing like Trek. it's wity, clever, funny , entertaining, original and if anyone doesn't like it..well they can go & watch something bland like SG1 or Trek instead.
as for serenity it was critically acclaimed by those in the media who had never even seen Firefly. So it's hardly overrated when the neutrals loved it!

I'm not sure that's true. firefly has 8 commentaries , Serenity has one that's 8hrs of extras there alone! plus Serenity R4 has TONS of extras over a 2 disc set.
having said that I'd love this DVD although I doubt I canget it anytime soon.

If you weren't being sarcastic, I'd have to cry at your statement, Gabe. Episode III and all the prequel Episodes were just unbearable for me (I being the least unbearable, and III being the most).
Net sarcasm destroys families, Gabe. Remember that.

You're not calling me stupid for liking something you didn't, now are you?
Simon AbramsMemberJoin Date: June 2005Location: United StatesPosts: 685
Fair enough. My only consolation is that I never said, "What's wrong with you?" or called you any names or mentioned your grandmother once. I mention her twice: she's hot for 83.
Gabe PowersContributorJoin Date: September 2004Location: United StatesPosts: 3,267
She's only 80! Get it right!
And yes, though I liked Serenity, and own the Firefly series, I loved episode 3. I thought it was a great, melodramatic throwback, and ate it right up.
And a passive aggressive "Huh. Okay." is pretty close to name calling, it's just passive, thus allowing one to claim it wasn't meant in an insulting way.
Simon AbramsMemberJoin Date: June 2005Location: United StatesPosts: 685
Um that's not how it was intended. You like Episode III; okay, fine. What else can I say? I hate it. You're entitled to like it. I'm not calling you an idiot for liking nor do I think any less of you for liking it. As Mr. Rogers said, "You are my friend, you are special." Why would I hold the fact that you like I movie I despise against you unless you were my girlfriend/your grandma?
Conerning passive agression: frankly that's a bit insulting considering that on the Blade Runner Region 2 thread you pretty much went ahead and claimed that the people who didn't like Blade Runner hated it, as Matt said, because it lacked Michael Bayesque editting.
Gabe PowersContributorJoin Date: September 2004Location: United StatesPosts: 3,267
You are absolutely correct. But I never said anything against insulting people for their opinions...at least not here...
and I didn't say their was anything wrong, per se, about not liking Bladrunner for those reasons...but I suppose that was implied. I tried to rectify it later at the end of the thread, but I put in a jab at you there, so maybe you shouldn't read it...
At any rate I'm just playing around. I'll see you at grandma's birthday in November.

Well, I'm glad to see it finally coming out. I found out about in January and ordered then. I don't consider myself a rabid fan or anything, but it looked really well made and I dont think the show should have just gotten dumped. I'll just stay out of all the useless banter, but do remember everyone: Internet. Serious Business.

Anything that gets Firefly/Serenity attention is good by me. The extras on both the Firefly and Serenity DVDs were pretty minimal so I will try to get this. Firefly, in it's short time, is one of the greatest series I've ever seen and I'm still heartbroken about it's demise.
