Yeah Neil, "homage" is all well and good if the final product doesn't turn out to be hateful, laughable dogs**t.
I liked this OK. If you go into thinking its gonna be The Godfather, then you're going to be disappointed. If you're expecting a cheesy, loud, gorey action movie, then you'll not be let down.
Anyway, I like the HMV artwork, but the others are pretty bad.

Missed it in the theaters, but watched it last night on DVD. I loved it. I put it in the same vein as "Planet Terror". Strictly an intentional homage to other films on the director's part.
It's funny, but I think most of the professional reviewers didn't bother to read or listen to anything Neil said on the press junket for this when it was first released. He openly states that he wanted to make a movie using elements from some of his favorite sci-fi flicks as a kid, specifically the "Mad Max" series and "Escape From New York". He didn't hide the fact that he ripped off plot points, character types, or even action sequences.
I took it for what the director intended and I liked it.

im so dissapointed with Neil. this was awful... my rating for this (C-) and it gets a C cuz of the gore, action, etc, but not a good movie at all...
Dog Soldiers was a blast, the Descent was superb, and so I was really looking forward to this film. Oh dear.
Even if you sit through Doomsday 100 times, you will still not believe how deeply, darkly, dreadful it really is.
Don't waste your money.

@Chris: Wow, which reviews were you reading? The Descent gets 85% on Rotten Tomatoes, and it routinely gets called the best British horror of that year, if not the decade. It's a fantastic movie, very tense and claustrophobic in the first half before the horror stuff even kicks in. Highly recommended.
As for Doomsday, not seen it yet. Apparently it's a mish-mash of all the 80s post-apocalyptic movies (mainly Mad Max 2 and Escape From New York). it's supposedly derivative as hell but fun if you can get your head round that.

MY second favorite film of the year.
US BR is awesome... nice PQ and DTS HD track is as aggressive as hell... must own if you like the movie... Dog Soldiers & Descent are EXCELLENT films...

I read a lot of reviews that said it was c**p, and I'm not really a horror fan anyway.

I kind of liked it, but it's fair to say it's more plagarism than homage - the heroine even has an eyepatch. Meh.
Just learned it's out on BD here as well.
Escape From New York on acid, that's probably the best way to describe it. I enjoyed it, simply because it so bat-sh*t crazy and had some terribly inventive death sequences. It's flawed, but fun. I've ordered the U.S. Blu-ray at any rate.
Dog Soldiers was c**p as well. I never saw The Descent.
Is it just me, or does this film look like c**p?
I don't know what happened to Marshall, but his first two outings were excellent.............
