I still can't believe how poorly Fox handled this film.
I started hating this film when they announced Justin Chatwin was playing Goku. Every single thing is wrong about this supposed Dragonball movie. The main atrocity is white people playing Asians, with the Asians as an afterthought. Why Chow Yun-Fat would accept a role in this abomination is beyond me.
I'll admit I haven't seen this (and never plan on seeing it) but I think I can tell its putridity just from the trailer and television spots.
Oh, and I too wonder what the f**k is up with this Z Edition. That has to be the stupidest edition title ever. The garbage slime icing on the already rancid cake.

Is it just me or just Justin Chatwin look a bit claymationish on this cover...
Definitely one of my top-ten NOT-to-do movies... If you ask me, you can't cover a single thing of the mythology in 85 minutes... and James Wong as a director, let's face it, he isn't the edgy guy he was when directing Willard, the first Final Destination or episodes from the X-Files... Man has a way of falling that can only be witnessed by his filmography... this is it.
And for the record, if Justin Chatwin keeps hanging on his *ahem* unmentionables, no wonder it'll glow and make him see stars and scream like such...
Speaking of Dragonball, who are ANY of the characters? They don't look a thing like their comic book self... not by a long shot.
Anyway, I'll go and watch Citizen Kane now... looking at the cover made my IQ drop to just about the same one the writers used for the script...

I didn't give it a chance in theaters but it's worth a look on Blu-ray.
The Z-Edition is just another name for what they are calling Special Edition. So the Z Edition has over 10 min. of never-before-seen deleted scenes, learn Goku's moves in stunt featurette, gag reels, behind-the-scenes etc.

I always get this and STREET FIGHTER: CHUN LI confused. Of course, half of the time I forget they even exist.
Anyway, I will pass on this.
Anyway, I will pass on this.
I thought Chow Yun-Fat learned his lesson after Bulletproof Monk and swore off doing anymore American movies. I guess the $$$$$ they offered him to do this, was too good to pass up......
The chick standing in front of him on the cover is a real babe though.....

Gildia,
It's wrong for European Americans to play Asian characters. Was it wrong when the Honeymooners were replaced by blacks? How about Jim West, a traditional white role, being replaced by Will Smith? Why didn't anyone make a big deal about that?
It's funny how I'm the only one who responded to your bigotted post. Really shows you what kind of world we live in.

This was in theaters?
"Z Edition"... says it all, really.
ZzZzzZ Edition. Sweet! We could all u a great sleeping meditation aid.
I'm still awestruck at how bad this movie looked.
I would never watch this even if the DVD was given to me.
What is Chatwin screaming at?
Okay, okay, back the trolley up here folks: s**tty movie? Yes. "White people playing Asians"? Where? Nowhere is it ever said in Dragonball that Goku or anyone else in the show is Asian.
well, I actually enjoyed this alot along with the legend of chun li. Both will be added to my blu ray collection. They'll be put in my guilty pleasures section.

No one made a big deal about The Honeymooners being black or Will Smith being Jim West because The Honeymooners (2005) and Wild Wild West (1999) were overwhelmingly s**tty films.
The Dragonball universe doesn't suggest that Goku is asian, but for god's f**king sake: GO-effing-KU. When was the last time you came across a white guy named Goku?

Did anyone actually watch this? If so, I am so much better than you for not watching.
A live action version should have never even been talked about. The cover shows just how silly this is. What a waste of celluloid.

They need to leaves Japanese Animations alone. They are great the way they are, no need to make a live-action/movie out of them.
I mean what's next...Macross/Sailor Moon/YuYu Hakusho: The Movie etc. - Duh, gotta stop this madness!!!

I'm not even gonna touch this movie. I have slightly more of an interest in watching this over any of the Dragonball the animated series out the though.

Sailor Moon already went live action in the series, lol, but I agree with you.

I enjoyed this movie greatly. Will buy on Day One.
This movie had sooooo much potential, I can't believe they did THIS to it. "Z Edition"? Good lord.
I know people trash it but I'm still going to buy it.
I thought he was yawning for a second.
Sorry Emmy, seeing this once was bad enough. I'll have to pass on the DVD.
OMG! Pass!
