Quote: The bullet that killed his daughter was meant for Boston cop Thomas Craven. That’s what police brass and Craven himself think, but that’s not what the investigation finds. Clue after clue and witness after witness, the search leads him into a shadowy realm where money and political intrigue intersect. If Craven wasn’t a target before, he – and anyone linked to his inquiry – now is. Mel Gibson stars in his first screen lead in eight years, making Craven’s grief palpable and his quest for payback stone-cold and relentless. Martin Campbell (Casino Royale) directs from a screenplay co-written by The Departed’s William Monahan. Gibson is back, taking us to the edge…and into the sinister darkness.

Contained a wee bit too much melodrama and also a great deal of political thriller cliches, but Gibson is in top form here. It's worth seeing just to watch him back in "revenge hero" mode, the role at which he's best at.
yeah, i liked this movie too. not the most amazing thing but definitely worth one's time. plus i really like Shawn Roberts and Danny Huston and of course Mel is great. i admit there was a part in this (i don't want to ruin it so i won't say where in the movie) that had me in tears.
Martin Campbell seems to be one of the few directors that can do PG-13 movies and have the action and violence maintain an intensity, that doesn't offend my jaded filmgoer eyes.
Just saw this today and I found it pretty close to fantastic. Didn't expect much from it, but it was a solid thriller with some brutality. Wouldn't pick it up until the price drops some, but definitely worth your 2 hours.
I can't wait to see what Martin Campbell does with Green Lantern next.

I liked this movie, but didn't love it. It was more of a character drama with a political message than a revenge thriller. Wasn't too crazy about Gibson's Bostonian accent either. It's a solid rental nevertheless.
Didn't get to see this at the cinema, will have to buy this one, although may wait for it to come down in price. No matter what your personal feelings towards Mel are given a decent script he is a fine actor and a fantastic director IMHO!
Watch the original UK mini-series instead of the c**p.
Coming out the same week as The Edge? Someone is bound to get them confused.
I'm not dissing you horrorfan, but, don't see this just b/c the critics enjoyed it. Don't become another bot. Think for yourself. Watch something b/c YOU want to watch it and like it b/c YOU like it.

Well, I do enjoy enjoyable things.

It was good, I'll pick up the blu-ray
I am right on the fence with this. Not terrible but faaaa from great. I wasnt bored with it, but it was pretty predictable and not quite what the ads made it to be.
Yeah I do like the cover; it is interesting, but I do agree it makes it look more like an action film which unfortunately it did not have that much. Even the trailer seemed like it would so maybe it's their gimmick to attract more people.
Decent time-killer, not sure if it's worth a purchase. What is up with the cover? They make it look too much like an action flick.
I actually like those Blu-Ray/DVD Combos. I think if you get a movie for $20 online and you pay $10 for each disc, it's a great way to save up money.
But I will have zero desire to even watch this or purchase it.

This wasnt half bad. Way more violence than I was expecting.
Thank you Finklestein for mentioning The Proposition, Ray's best in my opinion. I also loved his and Mads Mikkelson's(sp)character in King Arthur.
Maximus....Mel's a complicated man, and no one understands him but his woman. Or maybe that's Shaft.
I haven't seen this yet, but I agree with whoever said they'll watch it just for Ray Winstone. The man was brilliant in "The Proposition".
Okay, I admit it, I like Mel too. I rather admire the fact that he's one of the only celebrities willing to speak genuinely, not to mention his serious talents as both director and actor.
Thanks to his honesty, I now know that if I'm a gay jewish man, I better steer clear of ol' Mel. Always good to know where you stand with folks.

i thought this was a great movie. they made it out to be an action-thriller, but it was an exciting, drama/thriller. as much as i don't think mel wanted me to see this movie (i'm jewish, and we all know how much MG loves jews), i really enjoyed it.
Very disappointed with this; I like Gibson and thought it was going to be like TAKEN, with Gibson kicking ass everywhere he went. 2 decent action scenes in between a whole lot of boring nothingness.
Was really excited but geez was I let down. This is garbage from beginning to end, don't endure yourself to this c**p. Skip it.
This got pretty decent reviews by the critics so I may give this one a try. A little disappointing to hear it's 80% dialogue and 20% violence. Don't get me wrong, I love character development in films (Inglourious Basterds, 1960's Psycho, District 9), but once in a while, I'd like to see a good action thriller, that supplies with action. And not every film with excessive violence is bad. Taken was well-done and had a lot of action, The Crazies was great and had a lot of action, and even Avatar was phenomenal, and it had a lot of action.
