Paramount Home Entertainment has revealed the Blu-ray package artwork
Title: Escape From L.A. (IMDb)
Starring: Kurt Russell
Released: 4th May 2010
SRP: Price TBC
Further Details:
Paramount Home Entertainment has announced a Blu-ray release of Escape From L.A. for the 4th May. The film itself will be presented in widescreen, along with an 5.1 Dolby TrueHD soundtrack. As far as we know, the only extra material will be the films theatrical trailer in HD. We've attached our first look at the official package artwork below:

Quote: The man with the patch is back. Call him Snake. Kurt Russell rejoins filmmakers John Carpenter and Debra Hill to do to the Big Orange what they did to the Big Apple in Escape From New York – with even more futuristic thrills and slam-bang action! Into the 9.6-quaked Los Angeles of 2013 comes Snake Plissken (Russell). His job: wade through L.A.'s ruined landmarks to retrieve a doomsday device. Don't miss the excitement as Snake surfs Wilshire Blvd., shoots hoops at the Coliseum, dive bombs the Happy Kingdom theme park, and mixes it up with a wild assortment of friends, fiends and foes (Stacy Keach, Steve Buscemi, Peter Fonda, George Corraface, Cliff Robertson, Pam Grier and more). Escape From L.A. is a "go-for-broke action extravaganza!" (Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times).

Nice to see this coming to blu. To bad it's not the Director's Cut or why no commentary from Carpenter and Russell. Those two give great commentaries on the films they have done together. ohh well, now if only MGM will follow suit and release Escape from NY.

Havent seen this one. Only Escape from NY.
Wow, that's the first catalog cover art I've seen in a while that I actually like. Been waiting for this since it was announced and then canceled last summer. Happy to retire my non-anamorphic dvd.

You'll either love it or hate it, I don't think there's any in-between with this movie. Just know that it's not so much a sequel as it is a remake in a different setting. Personally, I like this one better, which I know is sacrilege to most EFNY fans, but I just thought this one was more fun.

I agree, L.A. was just a retooled N.Y. with less edge and more camp IMO. It was just cool to see Russell back in his signature role. The only real cheesy scene was when he surf's down Hollywood Blvd. Very bad FX in that scene. I would love for him to do the long mooted third film 'Escape From Earth"....

I completely agree. As much as I love this movie, I make excuses for that scene whenever I'm watching it with anyone who's never seen it before. It's very bad, but it's only about 2 minutes, so I can overlook it.

There is no real director's cut that exsits on film, but in an interview a few years back John Carpenter mentioned he would like to do a director's cut because he was not happy with the way Paramount released the theatrical version.

I've always heard that the studio rushed the film in order to get a late summer release. This not only resulted in the f/x being sub-par but also led to the film opening against the `96 Olympics. (You wouldn't think that would be much of a factor, but there were many stories at the time about the games impacting overall box office.)
I have to admit, I've never really understood the venom directed at this one. Yes, it's a bit campier and focuses more on the satirical aspect, but those are qualities that were present in EFNY as well. I mean, the villain in the original was played by Isaac Hayes! (Who, by that time, had long been a parody of his own image.)
It seems like a classic case of fans being on a different page than the filmmakers. The fans went in expecting a serious expansion of the universe and mythology of the original. But Carpenter, Hill, and Russell just wanted to make another fun movie. To them, it was always about having fun with the concept more than anything else.
And there's no denying they had fun with EFLA. It's another strong performance from Russell, plenty of inspired cameos, and an ending that easily trumps the original's. It's still one of the most cynical, ballsy finales I think I've seen in recent memory. (Not to mention, it ultimately became the perfect way to say farewell to the character. It's a shame they never made a third, if only to show us the aftermath.)

Has possibly some of the worst CGI ever committed to celluloid. Will also funnily enough, probably end with with a transfer that's 100 times better than the original movie ended up with.
This is probably the closest Metal Gear Solid: The Movie, we will ever get...
But, I'd rather have a proper remaster of Escape from New York over this.
