Here here!
The cover is actually fine. Take away the face in the bottom-right-hand corner and it would be perfect.
This film was okay. Seen worse this year.
Artwork is pretty decent, no large pics of the actors, but saying that, who were they anyway...I doubt that would help sell this DVD.

nice
ya know I never wanted to see this, but now since the artwork is amazing...I just mite give it a rent
whats the deal?
i dont know much about this film. whats the deal with this paul schrader thing?
Paul Schrader was originally hired as the director of this film. He shot it, then, during editing, he was fired for not making it scary enough (apparently). So they hired Renny Harlin to film it all over again and make a more traditional shocker (and failed miserably, by all accounts). So we all want to see Paul's version, as he was more interested in making a psychological thriller rather than yet another Exorcist rip-off.
Oh yay...
The box won't match the other three movies, how nice of WB...to rerelease the other three movies 2 months ago in snappers is just that extra slap in the face. Nice
thanks for the answer
thanks primus. i think that i would be interested to see the "original" schrader version. it seems to me that exorcist 3 was more psychological and that made it better than the first 2 for me (thats no hard thing when you think of the mess that was The Heretic).

I bought the other 3 months ago (because I have an issue with must having complete collections), and now this one is NOT GOING TO MATCH!?!?! I really hate that. WB did it to us all with the Harry Potter series, too.
The movie itself was decent, but slightly predictable. I am more than willing to buy the unreleased version, too.

a good solution to this, though it makes no excuses for WB, is to make your own boxes. a standard dvd case will run you about a dime at your local mom-and-pop computer shop, and your local specialty paper store should have A4 sized paper. the rest is just a matter of creating something you like on your own, or finding something u like that someone else has made already and posted online.
i've already done this for my Harry Potter titles, and the new star wars movies... but then, i'm a graphicist, so that's not too much a proposition for me. but hey, if you're handy with photoshop, why not?

The artwork would be PERFECT if they took away the face.
*Prays*
(No pun intended)

I have to confess I haven't seen Exorcist 3, although I have heard that it is better than 2. Would like to see it before renting this one.
-400-
I want to see this and I hope I'll like it. I've enjoyed the other three Exorcist movies even if the second one wasn't that great at all.
The Beginning doesn't touch the original film or Exorcist III: Legion, but thanks to an excellent Skarsgard performance and a genuinely intriguing plot (along with a really good score), it works. It's miles better than that *other* film about Merrin in Africa, The Heretic.
This is a disappointment. I want to see the original version of this movie included in the release. Yep, I see the Douple Dip coming up.
I've read William Wisher's original Exorcist: Dominion draft, which was re-written by Caleb Carr and shot by Paul Schrader. It's basically the same story, though hints at "where Lucifer fell" are gone, the possessed person is different, and it just moves more slowly (not necessarily a bad thing).
Well... no Paul Schrader's version, no sale... I want the two cuts or nothing on my side.
Hey, at least this points to Schrader's cut getting a few extra features, as opposed to a bare-bones second disc.
box office failure
Why does box office failure always mean new DVD cover art. Don't blame bad filmmaking on the Art department.
I liked this movie, but I wouldn't buy it. It's worth a rent. It's not very scary at all, but it definitely has a pretty creepy feeling to it.
$41 million isn't a "box office failure." It ain't anything to write home about, but it's not Jason X, either.

That is all a matter of perspective...this film had a much larger budget (reportedly around $80 million) than JASON X's approx. $14 million budget and was undoubtedly shown in more theatres and had higher advertising costs associated with it.
JASON X recouped around 90% of its entire production budget back during its domestic theatrical run while this film recouped around 50% of its budget back for the same period. Look at the percentages and not the actual numbers, there is a huge difference.

I'll get it
I don't care about that other version, this is the real version and it will be this way forever, I will buy this movie when it comes out.
Am I the only one that is reminded of the Blair Witch 2 cover. If the movie is as awful as the cover portends, I'll stick to my guns and not even bother checking it out.
I am hoping to see a new box set of the Exorcist films. The Ultimate Exorcist: The Version Your Heads Have Been Turning For!

By that logic, Saw is a bigger hit than Titanic.

Hmmm...a different version by the original director... sound like Alien 3 anyone?
Good cover though...
Good cover though...

For return on investment, yes it was...and THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT was even bigger.
But getting back to JASON X and this film...JASON X came within about $1 million during its domestic run of covering its production costs while this film barely reached half at $39 million within its production budget. JASON X was not the bomb you make it out to be, New Line/Warner Bros. has made money off of the film. This film will eventually make money for Warner as most films eventually return a profit especially in the days of DVD, but it just takes some films longer than others.
