It seems the R1 DVD has DTS after all! Its listed on CD WOW with 6.1.
Still, the R3 has it and its NOT non-anamorphic.

for a 2 disc se with hardly anything on it i think they should at least give us dts sound
I am so happy this is getting a well-deserved upgrade. However, 3 years ago I lost patience waiting for an SE and bought the barebones for $14.99....Oh well.
Also, I'm glad that Paramount stuck with the original artwork than concoct some new photoshop job like on several of their current new SE's.

Excellent news! got the original release but I`ll pick this up for sure :D
Thanks Matt.
It's about time this movie got an upgrade.

The above specs are for the standard disc version of the movie only, not the HD or Blu-ray versions. There might be other options in the audio department on those discs, such as possibly DTS, Dolby TrueHD and maybe (though doubtfully) even an uncompressed, 5.1 PCM track on the Blu-ray. Not 100% sure how Paramount handles the audio on their hi-def titles, but I think they mainly use DTS HD or Dolby Digital Plus. The only hi-def title I have from them uses DTS HD and DD Plus, and I've yet to read any other specs to the contrary on their discs besides offering the standard DD 5.1 track.

this is one of the corniest films of all times. Did they really have to do the "wave your hand over the face" thing as many times as they did in the film? They did it like 5 times in the last 3 minutes. Yeah, I got it, the movies called Face Off. Also, it's great that both characters are expert marksmen--except when shooting at one another, of course. Cage really hammed it up here as well.
That being said, I'll probably pick this up for nostalgic reasons. It's not bad enough to be good, it's just kinda bad. I remember this coming out around the same time as Jackie Brown with most of my buddies liking FO more for some reason. It had some promising aspects but the over-rated John Woo squandered the opportunity with the slow-mo, doves and 87 shots out of each pistol without reloading.

NO DTS...why?
Fingers crossed Broken Arrow gets a special edition with DTS

Contrary to common belief, the R3 is anamorphic. I have it, and its got DTS and is 16x9 enhanced.
Bring on Broken Arrow: SE with DTS!
Matt, the Criterion DTS track allegedly has faults. The R2 UK DVD is an exact copy of the Criterion set and has no problems.
Jack, how did Criterion "screw you" with RoboCop? All the info and specs are on their website, they certainly dont hide anything from you.

Criterion's The Rock is anamorphic and also has a DTS option to boot--a big step up from Disney's vanilla, non-anamorphic disc. For a two-disc set it's a bit light on extras, but the presentation and the commentary track with Cage, Harris, Bay, Bruckheimer, etc. make it worth it if you enjoy the movie. If you look around a little you shouldn't have any troubles finding a decent used copy for under $20, and most retailers are selling it for $34.99 new.

This came out in a day and age when action films were great. Con Air, The Rock, etc...
All I have to say is: It's about damm time! This was one of the best films that John Woo ever made in America. Looking forward for the deleted scenes and the alternate ending.
This film will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the last film I saw at the drive-in.

Wow we also need a Special Collectors Edition for:
Ghost in the Darkness (HD DVD/Blu-ray) NON ANAMORPHIC/BARE BONUS
Congo (HD DVD/Blu-ray) NO BONUSES
I'm with you on the "Ghost in the Darkness" Also would like to see Paramount release "Breakdown", "Days of Thunder", "A Simple Plan", "The Firm" and "Hard Rain" in collector's editions.
Those are all great, but there's one big title Paramount announced 3 years ago that I'm still waiting on: where the hell is the "Braveheart" special edition?!....Come on, they already missed the 10 year anniversary opportunity in 2005. What, do we have to wait until 2010 now for a 15th anniversary tie-in?? What gives?!?...also, since we're talking Paramount here, I wouldn't mind special/collector's editions for "Double Jeopardy", "The Saint", "Snake Eyes", "The Talented Mr. Ripley" and spiffed up multi-sets for Crowe's "Vanilla Sky" and "Elizabethtown"....

Yeah, although the first release is anamorphic, it is from a VERY dirty uncleaned up print. So I may have to up grade.

Wow that is cool i never noticed that. It looks like the eye belongs to both of them, 1 eye to make 2.
William Coffey wrote: Well... at least I was right that they'd have a 5.1 EX remix. Hopefully, they'll add a DTS mix, too.
Can't wait. Excellent film.
Most likely, usually Paramount High Definition discs feature both soundtracks. And thats what's good about Paramount nowadays.

I already have this dvd was'nt planning on double dipping, but with an alternate ending I may have to buy it.
i have the original R1 release and the eye is indeed there..but its much less pronounced, sorta in the shadows compared to these covers.
but yeah i'm an extras freak so this is a definate double dip for me...i love this movie...especially that shot of nic cage coming out of his car as the wind catches his jacket...its over the top cool..lol

I saw this once a long time ago and remember liking it, so I may pick it up. The coverart is simple and great.
That eye is creeping me out, man!
But I'll get the SD of this.
But I'll get the SD of this.
Somebody said they wanted an extended version of this?!?! It's too long in its current form...not a bad flick, but just too many slow spots for my action movie tastes.
I don't like the artwork, also they seem to leave less space what with advertising the '2 Disc....' & having a line underneath the name. Other than that a rather good actioner, but nothing on old John Woo or early Chow-Yun Fat Hong Kongers.
That eye looks more Travolta's than Cage's...
I just hope Jıhn Woo classics get such treatment in the future as well. I'll buy it for sure
yeah the old transfer (and especially the audio) sucks big time to todays standards
This is definitely a guilty pleasure of mine. I've waited for a special edition...
Fantastic. About time! This title should've been released years ago.
Yuck that eye is weird though.
Except for the R3 all current DVDs are anamorphic, the R3 had DTS too though (pity that's not hear). The R1 has just a trailer and the R2/R4 versions a tiny making of (which is really an extended trailer).

I enjoyed the film for what it was worth and I agree that it's probably one of the last great Woo films.

I'm sure this film was great at the time, but I rented this back in 2003 and was kinda disappointed in it. It's average, at best, and I feel this was so overrated. It's a good movie, but from what everyone told me about it, it didn't live up to the hype in my book.
Glad they kept the original art for the fans of the film. It is a cool cover. And no, that eye in the middle was not part of the original cover. Looks cool.

Oh, and I wish Fox would give Broken Arrow a re-release with anamorphic video!
According to DVDcompare.net it is. But there were no extras on that release. So if you are an extras fan, it might be good to double dip. I don't own this, so I will probably get it. One of the few Hollywood Woo films I did enjoy.

Yessssssss!!!
I don't think the eye in the middle was present on the earlier covers.

Personally, I think that this was John Woo's last great movie. His Hollywood flicks haven't gotten any better, and I'm waiting patiently for him to get back to kicking much @ss. I'm glad this is coming out - can't wait to hear the commentary. This is one movie that cried out for a special edition-type release, and I will be more than happy to shell out for it. It's coming out right around my birthday, so...
Saw it the other day on TV and wondered if a Collector's Edition is in the making. This movie is one of the absolute best out there.
finally my prayers have been answered only took 5 damm years but i can't wait to get it wish it was extended cut though
Worth for a new transfer only...
If it ain't re-mastered then I'll cry.
Hopefully this is a new transfer for the SD DVD. That current one is one of those original DVDs from the early days of DVD, I think.
I'll definately be picking up the Blu-Ray.
I wonder what the standard art will look like...
