BD/DVD combos are the way to go - If I go away I can use the DVDs as most places do not have BD players and portable ones are SOOO expensive.

Personally, I HATE them! I want things seperate.
You want them seperate? You'd rather pay for a standalone Blu-ray copy and then buy an additional DVD copy? Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. And these combo packs are costing less than special edition DVD's, and the same price as other Blu-Rays. This isn't costing anything more for the consumer.

It would be really cool to see this win Best Animated Movie at the Oscars over UP. It's the only movie that could possibly challenge UP.

Why not? Its not like Digital Copies were they jack up the price. What if you want to play this in a room that doesnt have Blu-Ray. What if the disc breaks? Think.
But as far as this goes. Im ditching. It looks bad, and it flopped in theaters. Wes Anderson did The Darjeeling Limited which looks Way better than this.

I missed it in theaters but have heard it's brilliant. Will definitely check it out.
Loved it. Will totally be buying the BD.

How are we paying extra when the blu ray/dvd combos are $19.99 and the 2 disc dvd is $24.99?

Not really. Especially if you buy them the week they come out. I spent $18 on the 4-disc Up blu-ray. Graduate blu-ray came with a dvd, only cost $20. Half-Blood Prince for $23 with a dvd. Those are all fairly good prices for a blu-ray disc alone.

Totally throw in the DVD and the Digital Copy but do they need to put it across the top of the artwork, wouldn't a sticker on the outer packaging suffice?

I'll take WTWTA and Pixar films over this god damn movie anyday.

My cousin saw PATF. She said it was really good. I think it will be interesting, but I already saw Mr. Fox and didn't really care for it. I am thinking about renting Princess and the Frog, but my dough is going to go for "Where the Wild Things Are" than those two movies.

LOVED the movie!!! Hate the cover art. Hate all the extra features the Blu-Ray gets.
Also, why is Mr. Fox reading The Fantastic Mr. Fox? That's just bad advertizing-I'll bet someone bought to have that on the cover.

Why not? It gives people the ability to buy up and then when they're ready to buy a Blu Ray Player or whatever, they have a head start on movies to watch...

Very disappointed with the movie. I expected Wes Anderson to do a better movie, and yet the omissions and changes stripped the soul out of the story (which I loved as a kid). It was cute, had good animation, but for me it lost me also simply because the voice actors took me out of the story and I couldn't see the characters as themselves. One of the most overrated films of 2009, next to "Avatar."

Maybe you actually should see "Princess" before you state an opinion of it. Because in terms of entertainment, "Princess" beats "Fox" in terms of sheer entertainment. "Fox" is for Anderson devotees only.

I was honestly hoping Criterion would have taken this release. All Wes movies have had excellent cover art except Darjeeling Limited which was no Criterion but hoping Criterion buys it. It just ruins the whole Wes Criterion Collection and the cover art here is atrocious. Still I'll get it. Maybe I'll make my own Criterion coverart? Eh forget that, I'll opt for a custom cover though, this movie deserves more.
Awesome movie and i do like the cover. Simple, classy. I was surprised by how clever this film was. It will be fun to revisit it again in march after most the jokes i forgot about will be fresh again
i really wish they would go back to not making single-disc dvds and just make the double discs for the price that singles currently are. 2 years or so ago it was you could buy a 2-discer for 15 bucks. now the 2-discers either don't exist (like here) or they cost about 4 bucks more than the bluray.
or maybe i should just cave and buy a bluray player...
i really wanted to see this in theaters but missed it. adored the book as a kid and love wes anderson's films. will have to get this in some form.

Fan-cussing-tastic! Adored this film and the DVD/Blu-Ray combo is just perfect.

I actually like the Blu-Ray/DVD Combos. They need to get rid of the digital copy because I'm getting completely sick of this c**p. Pretty soon, I'll take away those f**ked up digital copies off my iTunes library, coz they are wasting my time and space on my computer.
Jersey Jedi wrote: Can't wait for this one! If it weren't for UP, this would be my top in animation this year.
Actually, "Up" is much, much, much better than this. "Up" is the best animated film followed by "Coraline" and the best family film followed by WTWTA.
I'm actually not going to buy it. The storyline held my attention but not something that I could basically follow or understand. Perhaps I didn't read the book or maybe I was just too lazy. I don't know. Will just try to give it one more chance but maybe when it comes out on HBO or something. I dunno!

I'm just going to ignore the DVD combo complaints.
I adored this movie. I was amazed that Anderson was able to follow the source material so well while staying true to his trademark style. Pure joy to watch. Will buy the blu-ray first day.

Why would anyone not want a free DVD?
It's free, if you don't want the DVD, give it away or throw it out.

While that's great you don't make use of the added DVD, I can say that it's been a life saver for me and my Disney BDs. If it wasn't for the ability to play Up, Bolt and Monsters Inc. in the car during long family trips, those kids would have driven my certifiably crazy by now.
And I've yet to see a single instance of the added DVDs or Digital Copies making a price difference (Coraline is another combo pack I've seen for 15 bucks on Amazon daily), save for Wall-E, which was a dumb experiment in having two editions. So why is it such a big deal for the people who don't use them? Plenty do.

C'mon!! they could've done something better for the artwork.
It's a Wes Anderson movie for "cuss" sake... do something artsy!
