Have to add this to the "must get" list. I liked this movie. I hope this gets a new digital transfer, DTS Audio, and deleted Scenes.
good
I held off forver buying any of the Star Trek movies, knowing full well Paramount would one day make better than the barebones versions of what they were offering. It paid off years ago with the release of The Motion Picture. I have continued to get all the "collector's editions" as they come out, and this one will definitly be added to my collection.
I still wish they all were given a rehaul like the first one, but this is as good as it gets for now.

This is the only Trek film for which I'll spend money on a new version. Easily the best Next Gen flick, and possibly the best overall.
I loved this movie... I got in trouble for trying to rent it when I was underage heh.
star trek
Hope this one has a dts soundtrack.
Best of the series I thought, will get this one for sure!!

I already own it, but i'm going to be picking this up, I have most of the movies on DVD already, I'm just going to double sip what think are the best ones.
Frackin' amazing movie! So many classic moments
"they invade our space and we fall back, they assimilate entrie worlds and we fall back, not again, the line must be drawn here, this far no further and i will make them pay for what they've done."

First Contact
It's about time.
I have the regular disc, and will get this one. I hope also to get someday Wrath Of Khan special edition.
This is one of my favorite Trek movies. I own this movie in widescreen on VHS. I can't wait for the Special edition DVD of this movie and hopefully it will have the long rumored deleted scenes that Sci-Fi Universe talked about years ago and the trailers for the movie this time (and not the thing that happened with the Generations Special Edition release where the trailers couldn't be included).
While this is a decent film, I personally liked it the first time when it was called "Aliens"! This is probably the best of the Next Gen films, but shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as The Wrath of Khan or, in my opinion, The Undiscovered Country.
This film was okay, but as a friend of mine said after viewing it, "You know, there are millions of reasons to want to take over the galaxy - finding the perfect android boyfriend is the last one I'd use when construcing a script." After I laughed for about 10 minutes straight, I had to agree. The Borg Queen is the biggest complaint with the film. I can forgive the cheesy "Hey there, Red Shirt, go all by yourself into the creepy ventilator shaft" - cut to death - then "Hey there, other Red Shirt, go see what's keeping the first Red Shirt so long in the creepy ventilator shaft" - really I can forgive that, but the Borg Queen doesn't work.
I'm not a huge Trekker, but I know that when they showed the inside of the Borg ship in "The Best of Both Worlds" the voice booming out orders was a male voice and there was no sign ANYWHERE of this Queen.
Major flaw, if you ask me.
I have many friends who dearly love this film, so I can understand why people would - please don't take this as bashing a person because they like it and I don't, because that's ridiculous.
Just stating MY opinion, and wondering if there are others out there that share a similar one.
Peace!

Yeah, I double dipped on Khan and I suspect I will on this one too...but not on any of the other films.

You too, huh?
Yeah, I held off upgrading my widescreen VHS of this to DVD when it became clear that Paramount was going to do 2-discers of all the Trek films. I just watched that VHS a couple of weeks ago, and it's still in decent shape. Hopefully the wait for this upgrade will have been worth it.
To date the only Trek film I've done a DVD double-dip on was The Voyage Home, and that because my VHS copy -- from the original video release in 1987 -- was pan-and-scan. Fortunately, I was able to sell my barebones DVD of TVH to a coworker for $10, and paid only a few bucks more for the CE.

I've got all of the new CEs of the Trek films. I'm also using custom cover art from Ric Easton to replace the non-descript chrome look of the official covers.
I dont think this is the best Trek overall, but its certainly in the top 3. Hopefully it will have a better transfer then Generations and everything else. I think it would be awesome if they got Jonathan Frakes to host the disc, or at least do some kind of super in-depth treatment of it. I would if it were my first major movie.
The best trek
I have been waiting for this one since they started doing the 2 disc sets. I am one of the people who have been double dipping since the wrath of khan. It doesn't bother me though, I love the movies.
This one ranks up there with wrath of khan and undiscovered country to me. And I am really hoping for the deleted scenes, commentary and trailers. Give me that and I am a happy camper.

Finally! This movie is def. one of the best and I can't wait to get it. After this only 2 more to get. Although I'm not sure if they're gunna make a Nemesis CE since the first DVD release was pretty good. If anyone has any info please post it! Thanks.
I definitly agree with you all : one of the top 3 Trek movies with Wrath and Undiscovered Country...
Franckly, I don't hope for deleted scenes... I HOPE FOR A FREAKING DIRECTOR'S CUT damit...
But again, we all know the little respect Paramount has for ST and it's fans, don't we ?!
Remember ST 5 : Shatner wanted to finish the movie (it never realy was... Quite obviously for anyone that have seen it!)
and they said NO !
All that money ST gave them over the years and they dare seeing no...
Could you tell us a bit more on those deleted scenes they wrote about in Sci-Fi U ?

All I remmber (without checking the issue in question of Sci-Fi Universe) is the rumor was that at least 20 minutes of deleted scenes exist.

I mentioned over in the ST: Generations R2 DVD announcement that I actually asked some questions to Jonathan Frakes when the movie (and DVD) was still relatively new on a startrek.com chat - he mentioned then that he was into DVD and that at the time he'd like to eventually see the movie released with an alternate opening title sequence and some deleted scenes available.

I prefer the region 2 packaging. The packaging for the region 1 releases leaves a lot to be desired. Great film though and I'll defo pick this up since I own the first 7 SE's plus Nemesis already.
I'm wondering if Nemesis will get the 2 disc treatment after Insurrections release.

I kinda like the packing in Region 1, matches a bit to TNG series box set(R1). I was hoping for a director's edition for the last 3 trek movies but if not I wouldn't mind seeing as a deleted scene or added in a longer version of the Borg Cube fighting the the federation fleet
Updated with disc specs...
looks good
This is a great set... the features look great...
As a long time Star Trek fan, and a fan of GOOD movies, this movie wasnt that great. The only reason people remember liking it is because of the Borg, it had nothing to do with the over-all film. This movie had an AWFUL, BORING plot, horrid acting, and it just kinda left you feeling like you were cheated, since Star Trek: Generations was so good. If you want to see the Borg, watch the show.
No deleted scenes?!
The artwork for these movies all look the same.

I think you have people's perception of Generations and First Contact confused.

No confusion here. I was never that fond of the Next Generation series or the big screen adventures.

A Jonathon Frakes commentary would be interesting though.
